The best place to stay!

The South Point villa is absolutely the best place to stay in Sri Lanka.
The house is very beautifull, huge rooms and is surrounded with a nice garden, the beach and the pool. For the children it was great to have the beach and a big pool, good for hours of fun! We made a lot of excursions to Galle, turtle hatchery, temples and went for safari's. For us, a family with three children it was the best place. The very friendly staff made our two weeks at South Point fantastic and we would very much like to come back!

I stayed at South Point Villa and at South Point Cottage for almost 3 months to complete and finalize publication of my book " PG WODEHOUSE - The unknown Years ". I enjoyed my stay in these two beautiful, serene and absolutely private villas. The staff were excellent, caring and kept the villas picture perfect through out our stay. I hope to return again soon. Thank you Sharmini for all you did to make my dream come true. BARONESS REINHILD von BODENHAUSEN

Owner's Response: The author stayed at South Point for almost 3 months, her book is the account of the life of P.G. Wodehouse, known as Plummie who stayed with the author and her mother in Germany during the years 1941 to 1942. The story covers his release from a lunatic asylum to the panacea of the most peaceful country estate, where he wrote and polished his book " Joy in the morning" as well as making his innocuous broadcast to America which got him into so much hot water. This is the Author's 3rd visit to Sri Lanka.

I have just returned from a 10 day stay In Sri Lanka, my husband and I have visited this beautiful island four times but we wanted to bring our family out and so we chose this villa as it ticked all the boxes. When we arrived we were blown away by the tranquility of the place, after a long flight and drive from Colombo it was the breathtaking scenery and the wonderful villa that made us feel like we were truly on holiday. All the bedrooms are very light and spacious and the bathrooms are wonderful. The staff do everything for you, so it was a truly relaxing break. We were fortunate to spend our 27th Wedding Anniversary whilst at the villa and we were pampered, chocolate cake, BBQ, Fireworks to name but a few - this made it a very memorable evening. The beach is wonderful and you can walk along it and feel you are on a desert island- no hassle which was marvelous. After they found out that we love dogs they let the two guard dogs stay outside so we were fortunate to be able to play with them which made it feel even more like home. The pool is kept clean and the jacuzzi was a great extra. The food is very tasty and you can order virtually anything you want - we all came home a lot heavier than when we went which was testimony to the great choice on offer.Sonali is putting a lot back into the community and we were touched when we visited the school and creche which stands opposite the villa - all proceeds from the house goes to support the local community and we were privileged to go over to the school and meet the staff and pupils.
We will be going back and hope that many more people opt for this type of holiday - we have always stayed in Hotels but now we will not consider this when visiting Sri Lanka - you will get a true holiday and go home very relaxed, please chose this villa if you are considering a holiday - you will be putting money into a community which thoroughly deserves your help.

We have recently returned from 2 very relaxing and enjoyable weeks at South Point Abbey, which is adjacent too and owned by the same family as the villa.

The Abbey is set in well maintained gardens with its own infinity pool and is right on the beach, e.g. step down from the garden onto the sand. The pool is plenty big enough and the garden has both shade and sun so is perfect for lazing away the day. There are also lots of small squirrels and we also saw a monkey the first morning we were there.

The beach is about as perfect as it gets, it was completely deserted most of the time we were there, golden soft sand, crashing waves, an occasional fisherman and not a tourist in site. Great for body boarding.

The Abbey is large, the bedrooms are very spacious oversized double beds with a large covered veranda. There is a smaller double bedroom on the ground floor and a large covered terrace.

However it is the staff who make this place special. Nothing is too much trouble, in fact they go the extra mile. They happily bring trays of drinks to your sun bed and even re-fill your glass whilst in the pool.

The food was fantastic, Janaka the chef provided us with a wide range of fantastic dishes, my favourites were his crab and sweet corn soup (his is the best I have tasted) various Sri Lankan curries, lamprais and of course seafood.

The abbey is also well placed to visit Galle, there is also a low land tea plantation very close by which is well worth a visit, and the lagoon to see the stilt fisherman.

The only small criticism is because the abbey is built in the traditional colonial style designed to keep it cool with high wooden ceilings it is a bit dark. It is also on the main Colombo Galle coastal road so there is some traffic noise; however it is so idyllic in other ways that it is nice to be reminded that life is going on outside the villa.

If you want somewhere to relax and unwind with 5 star service this is a perfect option

Owner's Response: South Point Abbey has been built almost 2 centuries ago, and has been carefully restored. The doors, windows and the clay tiles are as old as the house. South Point Abbey is close to the road, where as South Point Villa is
built in the middle of the property and is not affected by the occasional sounds of passing vehicles.

Hi,

Our stay at the South Point Villa-Abbey early June 2008, was the most memorable 2 days ever.

The villa is beautifully created and maintained, it gives you both luxury and simplicity packaged with the finest SriLankan culture. Open, fresh, spacious, and picturesque makes South Point a perfect holiday venue. The restrooms are huge with some of the best ayurvedic accessories you would love to take away, and the bedrooms even larger with comfortable queen beds, equipped with elegant furniture, additional linens and beds, these are so well placed and located together but gives you ample privacy. Children love this place … open garden, beach and the clean swimming pool, in-house library etc they have everything to cheer about. Since, both the villa’s are well connected you get a feeling of one large home.

The villa manager, chef and support staffs are the best of hospitality personnel - I have ever come across. Available at any time to serve you, like on a weekend at the middle of night we needed a paediatrics and the same was arranged in a short notice. We are really grateful to the staff and the management for this support and gesture. The in-house kitchen is well equipped and completely accessible to all guests. The food is freshly prepared and is ready before one could ask. Since, we were vegetarian, the kitchen was a real savior.

I would recommend this villa to everyone, who want exclusivity and complete leisure, I would suggest planning a min. 3-day stay, as you would regret leaving sooner like most of my family members did.

My family and I are really grateful to Mrs. xxxxx (Owner) for her complete assistance and co-operation during our stay, and I look forward to making a visit again in future. If you have a question about our stay at South Point, please do get in touch over an email

We had an amazing week in south point villa during christmas 2007. The staff are really friendly. The food is delicious. The rooms huge and clean. The pool a great place to relax. Its only a short ride away from galle and is a great place to chill. I would stay here again anytime. Also some of the income generated from the villa is put back into the community in Habaraduwa.
