Great Base for a Family Holiday

This Gran Alicant (adjacent to the established town of Santa Pola) villa proved a great base for our 4 week family holiday.
It was comfortable, well-equipped and spacious, providing 'home-from-home' accomodation - and all at a reasonable price.
The lower floor proved a big hit with our kids who were able to take refuge from the fierce midday heat by playing pool (they were expert by the end of the holiday!). The 3rd floor bedrooms are a good size and the beds are comfortable. The family bathroom is large - and has a good shower - and the ground floor shower-room is very handy.
The roof terrace offers very private bathing - though you will roast up there, so be careful and slap on the factor 30!
The villa is a good walk from the beach (about 20 minutes) - which is accessed via the appropriately named 'Cardiac Hill'... However, there is a very reliable, high quality public transport system, so the lazier can rely on that to get them there in 5/10 minutes (or else use a car).
The Maxcoop supermarket directly across the road from the villa is brand new and very well stocked and reasonably priced. However there are the usual Lidl, Mercadona and Aldi a short journey away (bus or car).
There are numerous places to eat out nearby - all are clean and well-priced.
Alicante is worth visiting - either by car or bus.
However, Santa Pola is a family favourite. It's a 'working' town - with a fab fish market and numerous supermarkets. But it's the relaxed atmosphere of the seafront at night-time which is so attractive. Beaches in Santa Pola are large and clean - a word of warning: Playa Lisa is the safer family beach, with a sheltered and shallow sea - the levante is great for wind-surfing, but large waves can really take you by surprise.
There are numerous fab eateries in Santa Pola - it's a holiday essential to try the Tapas restaurant - especially the baskets of pescaditos and the gambas con ajillo (garlic prawns).
Visit Cartagena (N332 then the AP7) - absolutely gorgeous and a firm family favourite. Go to Torrevieja for fun and shopping. Elx is sophisticated - and offers great sight-seeing/cultural activities. Benidorm is within easy travelling distance (just follow the N332)...
I would recommend hiring a car to get about - you will appreciate more of the area. But if you really want a lazy relaxed poolside holiday then this villa will also deliver just that!
I would certainly hire the villa again!
