Superb place to stay.

This is a gorgeous house perched high up on the hillside with the most glorious views over lake Balaton. The property is very comfortable, and well equipped with everything you need. The owners have put together an excellent information pack to ensure you really get the most form the area, and having the caretaker and his wife nearby means that the pool and gardens are well-maintained, and that any problems can be sorted out immediately. (We didn't have any though)

I wouldn't recommend this for anyone with mobility problems, as being on the side of a hill there are a lot of steps. We had an 18 month old toddler in our group which once we barricaded off the stairs presented no problem. She loved the steps, and was very entertained by going up and down the garden. My 14 year old daughter loved reading all over the house and garden, and my 10 year old loved the pool. The lake is only 10 minutes away, and is a lovely place to while away the day.

The road the house is on has beautiful views and you can take pleasing walks from the front gate ! All in all, I would really recommend this house. If you have never been to Hungary before, combine this with a few days in the wonderful city of Budapest for a brilliant trip.

The Balaton Hill House (BHH) was amazing and we certainly had a wonderful time staying there.

The setting is beautiful and the views amazing, with the house at the entry level and then with a short walk up, the pool level (above the house) was a fantastic area for us and the kids to play around.

The house was clean, tidy, well maintained and had all of the mod cons that you would expect, even with 'bug zappers' for the balcony in the evening and some electric plug adapters, as things we did not expect to find.

The main bedroom was very nice to stay in, with as comfortable, if a little creaky bed.

The bedroom adjacent with two single beds worked well with our two kids (aged 9 and 6) able to wander in.

The third bedroom with the double bed at the top worked well for our friends kids (aged 8 and 4), but as our friends bedroom was down the spiral staircase, it meant we were up in the night to help them.

All of this was great and managable for our two 'young' families. Probably the only negative was the hardness of the sofa bed in the basement room, which led to our friends having a few sleepless nights, trying using pool reclining chairs cushions and eventually just abandoning the basement room sofa bed entirely and moving into the top double bed room and making up kids beds on the floor.

The balcony for breakfast was also amazing, with a beautiful view of the lake.

The quick walk up the 129 steps (the kids counted them!) through the orchard up to the pool level was bracing, but worth the climb, for the view and the lovely pool.

Our late arrival on the first day was made very welcome by the housekeeper Lajos and the pre-arrangement of his wife Gyongyi cooking for us worked very well, being a very welcome tasty supper!

I would thoroughly recommend the BHH and my only suggestion would be to perhaps add a 'less hard' purpose built bed in the basement bedroom.

This was our third holiday at the Balaton lake, and it was with any doubt the best.
The house is half way up the mountain, and it got all you need for a perfect holiday. It is very well equipped and clean. A special thanks to the caretaker, Lajos and his wife who always where very helpful.
The weiws from the house and especially from the pool is absolut wonderful.
Nearby the house there is several wineyards where you can taste and buy the wine they produce.
We can recommend a trip to Tihany and the castles in Sumeg and Keszthely. If you got children a trip to Aqua City in Zalaegerszeg is an absolut must.

This was our first visit to Hungary and we just loved it. We choose to fly to Budapest first and took two days in that lovely city before hiring a car and driving to the Villa. There is now a motorway right down to the end of Lake Balaton (indeed, it goes right on to the Croatian border) and it will not be long before the last section of the Budapest ring road is finished. This will dramatically shorten the journey time from Budapest Airport giving wider travel options than into the small airport at FlyBalaton.
This is a lovely villa and the views across Lake Balaton are to die for. The area around Lake Balaton is just superb with great opportunities for sightseeing. The villa is excellent but do be aware that the pool is up a good way up the hill behind the villa - for sure it would not be suitable for anyone with a walking difficulty. The Villa is very well maintained, clean and comfortable and the service from the caretakers living nearby is second to none. We also sent a range of questions to Kati before our holiday and she unfailingly answered everything both in great detail and very promptly.
Don't miss the storks in the nearby villages; we were lucky unough to see two in the same nest.
We had a truly great holiday here and I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone!

We had a fantastic holiday. Lake Balaton and the area were even more lovely than we had hoped, and we will certainly return. The house was lovely, clean and very well equipped. The views were breathtaking and we will remember all for a long time (Jim and Samantha Walsh)
