Stay during April 2009

Annabella2 Biggin Hill, Kent, England
Review Submitted: May 18, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We have recently returned from a stay in Hastings Tower.
Although not particularly attractive from the outside, the condo was clean and comfortable with all the facilities required for an enjoyable stay. The friendly and helpful housekeeper was a definite plus point! We found the property a little noisy - on one count from the busy main road that fronts the block and secondly from the building work that was taking place in the block during our stay. However, the situation near the main road made access to the beach and transport very convenient. The buses are very frequent and cheap, an excellent way of seeing the island. There are a few restaurants within walking distance, some of the fast food variety and others for the more discerning customer such as the delightful Aqua. Should you wish to self cater there is a large supermarket but it is a good 20/25 minutes walk so if not hiring a car it would be wise to take a bus or taxi.
Not to be missed:- A trip on the Cool Runnings cataraman, the Sunday Scenic Bus tour from Independence Square, Bridgetown, Oistins fish fry on a Friday night and a meal at Aqua! Try to avoid:- Using the buses at school finishing times - they become impossibly crowded and make for a very uncomfortable ride!
All in all a good value apartment which will be enhanced further when the redevelopment of the immediate area has been completed.

Great Condo Close to the Barbados IVF Clinic!

Review Submitted: November 22, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2009
My husband and I traveled to Barbados for a two week treatment at the Barbados Fertility IVF clinic. As you may notice nothing in Hastings, Barbados sports an address--the postal people simply know what's what and where it is! I tried looking on Google Maps with no luck (because nothing has an address) but finally just took a gamble on location and guess what?--we were right next door to the clinic which was perfect!! We just walked next door for our every other day treatments.

But you probably want to know about the property. Well, Hastings Towers is in a great location--just 10 yards to the beach and right near the famous boardwalk. The boardwalk took 4 years to complete and my husband and I walked it at least twice a day. It goes from the gorgeous Accra / Rockley beach in front of a few restaurants and down to the residential area. Speaking of restaurants, we recommend Bistro Monet for spring rolls, samosas, fish, and wine. Also try the little dolce gelato place next door for Italian ices and smoothies.

The condo owner James was the perfect host! Not only did he meet us at midnight but also he provided us with get started amenities--milk, OJ, bread, coffee, etc., and believe me, after a long day of flying it was well welcomed! James also got my husband out for an English soccer match, took me to the beach, and popped us over to the grocery store. Now he may not do that for everyone, but he seems so friendly, he just might. The cleaner Beverly did a super job cleaning the accommodations. The condo is exactly as pictured--not the Ritz Carlton, but perfectly comfortable with beautiful views from the balcony and nice extras like iPod player and washer / dryer, etc. Overall we enjoyed our stay and it was great value for money!

Hastings Towers opposite Hastings beach

Review Submitted: October 21, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
The lobby of Hastings towers is not impressive but once you reach the apartment via one of the two lifts, your impression changes.
The apartment has two balconies both with a sea view. Open both balcony doors and the trade winds cool the apartment.
Each bedroom has its own air conditioner and ceiling fan. The aircon works very well.
We like to cook a bit (the kitchen has a full size cooker) But the cooking equipment lacked a few things. The owner was most helpful in providing what we needed.
Others have mentioned the air of spaciousness and light this apartment has and that was certainly borne out by our visit. It has two bathrooms which is unusual in an apartment with only two bedrooms.
The lady who manages and cleans the apartment is good fun and is very efficient. If she says she will do something for you she will not stop until it is done (which is a bit unusual in Barbados)
The apartment has a dedicated utility room with a washing machine and dryer as well as an iron, so keeping everything clean was no problem.
We went to Cafe Fred which is a short walk down the road. Fred gives the impression that he is about to commit suicide but instead will cook you an excellent meal at a reasonable price.
The new boardwalk on the other side of the road from the apartment, is well worth a stroll in the evening. It will lead you past several bars and restaurants. The KFC is best avoided unless you are desperate. There was only one cut of chicken available when we went and the staff seemed to wish they were somewhere else. After ten minutes in the queue, we began to wish we were somewhere else as well.
Further down is Tapas. This serves excellent food and the service is second to none. You can eat to the sound of waves breaking on the beach. It gets busy though, so booking is advisable.
Transport is very good. If you stand on the pavement with a bag Taxis will stop without being hailed.
I did some diving with Rogers Scuba Shack which is just up the road at the boatyard. Roger will collect you (without charge) from Hastings towers and runs an excellent operation.
All in all we had a pleasant stay. The apartment is clean, well furnished and gives the impression that someone cares about it. If we had had a problem I am sure it would have been quickly dealt with.
I would certainly reccomend Hastings Towers to a friend.

Simply the best

Review Submitted: September 9, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
this summer I consider myself extremely fortunate to have come across one of the very best value apartments to be had in Barbados. I have been coming to Barbados fo 35 years and never before had such enjoyable and well appointed accomodation. The apartment is everything you could ever hope to have for a holiday. It is perfectly situated on the south coast, near to all the amenities and attractions. From the balcony in the lounge, there is a direct sea view with the added benefit of soft sea breezes. In fact there is not one but two balconies which means, with all the doors open, cooling breezes run throughout the apartment. There are two excellent double bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is also an added airbed if needed. The lounge and dining room is most comfortable; there is a well equipped kitchen with everything you could possibly need and there is the added benefit of a separate laundry room with washing machine and dryer. There is also a television and CD radio music system with IPod attachment. The housekeeper is efficient and friendly; the air conditioning kees you cool at night and the private parking space in the secure gated car park all add to the enjoyment of the holiday. I wholeheartedly recommend this terrific value for money apartment to anyone coming to Barbados for the first time or anyone who has been here before but is looking for superb accomodation in a great location.

This property was clean, well maintained and had everything you needed. It was relly spacious and the view was lovely. The owner had even stocked the fridge with essentials and helped us up with all our luggage. He was in contact with me before the holiday and kept me informed of everything promptly. A very friendly and welcoming man.

The beach is across the road and the shops are nearby, with resturants and a trusty KFC within walking distance. Accra beach, which is a really nice one is only a short walk away too.

I would recommend this property to anyone. I have two small children and was very comfortable in the property.
There is so much space, a well equiped kitchen, washing machine and balcony to relax on.

We will definatley be returning in the future.

Thanks James

My birthday experience

Velda UK
Review Submitted: July 20, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
I stayed at James' apartment from 6th june to 28th june. As always the time went way too quick especially as i thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching the world go by and the sun set. The apartment is exactly as it is in the pictures. Beautifully clean and easily accessible to buses, supermarkets, banks, petrol stations. The a/c worked which was a big bonus for us. The apartment is spacious and i found the building to be nice and quiet. There was building going on downstairs but i did not find it intrusive and they certainly did not wake me up. Any problems i had were quickly dealt with once i informed James of them. The apt made my birthday holiday complete and memorable. I have been to Barbados many times staying in various locations and i found this apt to be excellent value for money. The starter pack was useful and Beverley was kind and waited for us even though we were delayed in arriving. I would definitely recommend the apt to everyone i know and will definitely be going back there as soon as i can:-)

Barbados condo

Sarge21 United Kingdom
Review Submitted: March 23, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
Myself, my wife and my brother, who are now all of a mature age, stayed at the condo from Feb 14th to Mar 2nd, 2009.
The facilities of the apartment are excellent, with two spacious double bedrooms, a comfortable living and dining area, plus a roomy kitchen. Having satellite TV was a bonus, and the view from the balcony is soothing, overlooking the Caribbean. The balcony is small, however, and the area surrounding Hastings Towers has become a little run down.
A big feature for me was security. You need a swipe fob to get into the building, and there is a grilled lock gate approaching the corridor to the apartment, which also has two secure locks. Because the apartment is also on the third floor, anybody wanting to break in would have to plan their attempt meticulously! There are lifts to all floors.
We liked the location of Hastings Towers, although we did not feel that there was a good bar or reasonably priced restaurant on its doorstep.
It is virtually central between the capital Bridgetown and St Lawrence Gap, the latter being the big tourist attraction for nightlife, and you can be at either in minutes via the excellent, cheap and regular bus service - are you listening, Gordon Brown? - or the official taxis, which can be expensive.
A slight negative is, because you are not in a hotel, there is no pool. But the beach, where the sand and sea are glorious, is just across the road.
Barbados is a glorious island, and the locals are kind and friendly, I'd recommend this condo as a perfect base for getting around the island and chilling out during the days or nights. Overall, very good value for money.
Owner's Response: It all depends on what you are looking with regard to bars and restaurants. Personally, I think that Cafe Fred (about a 3 minute walk to the right of Hastings Towers) is very good value for food and drink, although a little basic. Another minute takes you to TGI Friday which is what you would expect and a further minute away is the Green Dragon - a good bar with live music - and food and finally Mamma Mia - an excellent deli and Italian restaurant.

If you want to splash the cash, Aqua (about 3 minutes to the left of Hastings Towers) is an upmarket restaurant specialising in gastronomic excellence.

Thanks James for the opportunity to stay at your condo in January 2009. Everything was perfect and the condo was spacious and very clean. The well equipped kitchen and washer/dryer was very convenient also. The location is great and the beach across the street and new boardwalk was excellent. There are several restaurants (fine dining and casual) just a short walk and the bus service also is very handy. Thanks also to Beverley for all the goodies upon our arrival. We had an excellent vacatoin in Barbados and do hope to return!! Thanks again!!

Excellent stay

Review Submitted: March 12, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2007
A very homely condo and very good value for money in what I consider to be the best part of Barbados. Plenty of dining places and facilities such as supermarket and Accra Beach are within easy reach.
The condo is everything it claims to be: everything worked, the kitchen was well equipped, the maid service was good but not obtrusive, the balcony was pleasant and being set back from the main road, was not at all noisy. I would strongly recommend it.
