an oasis in Venezia

A comfortable apartment in an excellent location. It is an oasis in a touristic city. After sightseeing or a day trip, when I walked over that little woodern bridge (at the corner of the apartment), I almost felt like going back to my "casa" .

Within a reach, traditional fruit and vegetable stands, 2 supermarkets, a fish market,a boat stop and the railway station are all there. It is so convenient!

The proximity of the railway station allowed me taking train ride to explore nearby places such as Treviso, Padova, and Bologna. Walking to Santa Croce and Dorsoduro by crossing the bridge from the station is my favorite activity.

It is an enjoyable place to stay and no one would be disappointed.

peace after exhausting days

We stayed at this apartment in late September. It is only 10 minutes walk from the train station and close to local fish and vegetable markets. The apartment is in a building sitting along a canal. It was very quiet in the evenings allowing for much needed rest after a whole day of sight seeing. The apartment was large, clean, and tastefully decorated. Our most enjoyable moments were coming home after a full day of sightseeing and having a glass of wine on the balcony overlooking the canal. The apartment had a shopping cart available which was wonderful for the trips to the supermarket. There are many shops selling local wine which they will fill into water bottles for a couple of euros. The apartment is not close to St. Marc's and all the tourist areas, however, these can be reached quickly via brisk walk, vaporetti, or taking the traghetto. The kitchen was fully equipped and we made wonderful meals. In September, the weather was hot and we were glad the apartment had 2 air conditioners. The owner was very nice and answered all questions promptly. The lady downstairs is very friendly and helpful. My husband and I enjoy trekking and this apartment was very useful to explore the entire city of Venice. I would recommend this apartment to others, especially if they like to sightsee, but then relax and live like a venetian. If you like to be in the center of tourist attractions with crowds and activity, then this would not be the place for you. Overall my vacation in Venice was wonderful and we appreciate Carmen allowing us to stay in her apartment. I will always remember the peacefulness of the area as well as being close to transportation.

I stayed with my wife and 10 year old son for 3 days in September 2009, and we had a great time. The apartment is really ideally located in a quiet(er) area of Venice, one that you can tell is actually lived in by residents of Venice. It is in a quiet building overlooking a small and peaceful canal, but a short walk to bustling areas. The apartment is nicely furnished with antiques and comfortable and well laid out. We appreciated all the little things provided that made life easier on a short visit (for example salt and pepper, tea and coffee, tons of guide books, wireless Internet, etc).

When visiting Venice the one thing you can count on is walking lots, so having a really pleasant and comfortable base makes a huge difference. Also being able to save a bit of money by cooking "at home" in a well provisioned kitchen is a bonus. One of our best meals in Venice was actually one that we cooked ourselves after picking up fabulous fresh seafood and vegetables from the Rialto Market early one morning and cooking at the apartment.

One final note, the landlady who lives downstairs and gives you the key when you get there doesn't speak much English, but is really extremely nice and pleasant to deal with.

All in all, highly recommended!

Great location - look no further

We loved the location and the apartment. Very close to an excellent grocery store and all the sightseeing but without the tourist crowds. We walked (with our luggage on wheels) to and from the train station and it was quite an easy walk - it took about 10 minutes.

A very Venetian experience

Review Submitted: September 23, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
I stayed here with my partner and partner's parents for a week at the end of July 2009. We all fell in love with the apartment and its neighbourhood.

The place has everything you need in a practical way to live and feel comfortably at home. On top of this it has great views across a canal and the surrounding neighbourhood. It is located away from the bustling tourist meccas which give a sense of peace and genuine Venetian charm. it is however convenient by Vaporetto or on foot to all the great attactions of this city and the local neighbourhood has some great places to have a meal or an evening drink by a canal.

I highly recommend this place for a charming and value for money Venetian experience.

Thank You for a Fabulous Week!

Review Submitted: September 15, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Just a note to thank you for the week in your beautiful Venice apartment - it was simply wonderful!

I am sitting here back at home in rainy, cold and grey England downloading my photographs and wishing already we were back on the fabulous little balcony overlooking the canal.

Everything was so wonderful, Mrs. P. was delightful and so welcoming - the apartment had everything we could possible need and the antique furniture and lovely decoration made it a perfect place in which to celebrate my special birthday - it was everything we had hoped it would be and more!

We loved exploring the little streets and canals around us and enjoyed being part of the Venetian community for a short while. We would walk to the supermarket in the morning to get our supplies (the little shopping basket on wheels was perfect!) - we found a bakers shop for our bread and croissants and my husband delighted in the small cake shop where he would buy a different cake for us to try every day! We loved to watch all the comings and goings of the little boats with their families going up and down the canal below every day - so much better than being surrounded by all the tourists - we were able to get a true feel for the way of life of the local people.
We very much hope to return again soon - many thanks once again.

Home away from Home

Relaxed Travellers Melbourne, Australia
Review Submitted: June 3, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
A lovely home away from home with all the conveniences a person could ever want. Great quiet residential neighbourhood and not far to transport, market or local restaurants serving great food.
Both balconies were conveniently for sitting and watching the world pass by. Views from the front overlooking a little canal at sunset with a glass of wine from the great local wine merchant was very relaxing after walking the streets of Venice. A perfect place to escape the crowds. The pictures on the website are a true reflection of what you get.
The second bedroom is on the small side, but the sofabed in the lounge is very comfortable while the main bedroom is very spacious. Everything was clean and bright with lovley venetian pieces, as well as a great selection of books and music.
Would recommend it to my friends and family as it offered great value, lovely furnishing and very welcoming. A true home away from home.

Best Location, Beautiful Apartment

Review Submitted: April 9, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
My husband and I have rented apartments in Europe for our annual vacations for the past 20 years, including a previous visit to Venice. This apartment ranks as one of the most beautiful, well-located, and nicely furnished. Every amenity is provided including everything you need to cook wonderful meals. There is a great fish vendor on the Fondamenta Cannareggio most mornings and plenty of fruit and vegetable stands nearby. The shopkeepers in the area are welcoming and helpful. It is a short walk to the train station, yet the apartment location is in a quiet residential neighborhood away from the tourists. You can access all the sights easily, then come home to a relaxing oasis. I highly recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to experience what it really is like to live in Venice!

An unforgettable Venetian experience

Helmerenineke Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Review Submitted: September 24, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
This tastefully furnished and sunny appartment has everything that makes you feel at home in Venice and part of Venetian life. We have stayed there twice and hope to return to this dreamhouse. It is situated on a quiet, dreamy canal but only a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of the city, a short walk to the Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square. But Canareggio itself, the quarter of the city where the appartment is situated, is much more authentic. This part is the old Jewish ghetto and has a beautiful atmosphere. Here you find the real Venice; you will not meet many tourists along these canals. Enjoy a cappuccino on the terrace of the Bar del Ponte next to the Ponte delle Gulie and watch the Venetians stroll by. The appartment itself is comfortable and beautifully furnished. You will find chandeliers from Murano, antique furniture and lots of books about Venice. The livingroom opens to a sunny balcony overlooking the canal where we used to enjoy our breakfast. And the lady who welcomed us is very sweet. We strongly recommend this appartment; we had been in Venice before, staying in a hotel. But in this appartment we did not feel like a tourist, but like a local. It made the experience one not to forget.
