Weekend at The Lodge, Canon Pyon August 2009

Brigg Cwmbran, South Wales, UK
Review Submitted: September 28, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Having searched the internet for a property large enough for 25 people we "struck gold!" All our guests had a wonderful time and were completely bowled over with the house, amenities and accommodation. Ours was a large family reunion including small children and the many and varied facilities were used to the full. We have no hesitation in recommending this property and our guests are asking when we can do this again.

There were 24 of us - all family with age range being 6 to 83 years (parents, children, grand children & great grand childen). We had a truly fantastic week with all facilities being used to the full (swimming pool, everything in the games barn, the gym,TV's with variey of games, tennis and croquet, plus of course the usual ball games played by young boys with ample space and lawns available).
We went our various ways in small groups during morning and afternoon, all getting together for drinks and dinner at 6.30 pm - in this we were extremely fortunate as Henrietta came to the Lodge each evening (with her helpers) and cooked and served dinner for the whole group - superb.
Each night the games in the barn were put to full use with many competitions continuing until late - exhausting but terrific.
On arrival the Lodge was spotless and I do not hesitate to recommend it, there were ample attractions to visit in the area so many in fact that we were at times overwhelmed for choice,on several
occasions many members did not go out there being plenty to do within the grounds.

Great House in Hereford

Review Submitted: August 4, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Visited in July 2009. The house is as described and if anything it is more spacious than it appears in the photos on the internet! The house is beautifully furnished but yet is very homely, we had 9 children in our party and we felt very much at home.

The house has great facilities and is well stocked with everything you would need for a weeks stay. Having 3 TV's worked well for our group and there was plenty of space. The bedrooms were all of a good size and the bathrooms were great.

Everything was very clean and the Angela the housekeeper and Maggie the owner were very helpful. The property was well maintained and whilst there were a couple of small maintenance issues when we were there, they were dealt with promptly.

The grounds were a great size and the tennis court in particular was very popular. Our group loved everything about the place and we would definitely go back again.

If I could suggest any improvements, it would be a gate at the bottom of the drive (mainly for child safety) and perhaps a unit in the lounge to hold the DVD/Sky box etc.

Otherwise, if they keep everything to such a high standard, I would suggest that this is one of the nicest rental properties around at the moment.

This house was absolutely fantastic. I hired the house for a family weekend it was everything we'd expected and more. The description was accurate but didn't capture just how well appointed the house was. The facilities (tennis court, gym, games room) were superb and kept our party of 18 well-occupied. The amount of space is excellent: there were three separate lounges with TVs, DVDs and music which meant we could break up into smaller groups and do different things when we wanted. The huge dining table made for an amazing evening meal. And the kitchen was spacious, easy to cook and eat in, and the aga was a treat. The place was ideal for our mixed group of elderly, adults and children. The decor in the house is lovely and it feels very "liveable" - not at all like a holiday home, much more like a very lovely real home, or a very nice boutique hotel. The property was extremely clean and well-maintained. All dealings with the owners/housekeepers were efficient and helpful. I would definitely recommend this house and would love to go back and do it all again. I can't recommend it highly enough.

The Lodge, Canon Pyon in Herefordshire

We have just spent Easter 2009 at the Lodge, Canon Pyon in Herefordshire. We have a large extended family spaning three geneartions, totalling 19. The trip was in celebration of our mothers' 70th birthday. The Lodge was big enough to accommodate us all - yet still had a cosy feel. The kitchen was well stocked to cater for a large group which made the cooking a pleasure, our large internet shop must have kept the local supermarket busy!!. The gym and games room were used by the majority of the group. The large garden meant that the Easter Egg hunt kept us busy for sometime!! We made several trips to local places of interest which were only a short trip by car.
We would certainly recommend this property to anyone, and would like to thank Maggie and Angela for making our stay a delightful one.

I look back on our long weekend stay at The Lodge with really fond memories. It was better than I expected. The house is large but stil cosy and intimate. It catered for every age from young to old. I loved it and can't wait to go back.

This is the second year running we have rented a house from Maggie and we certainly were not disappointed. The Lodge is a fantastic house, decorated to very high standard. All bedrooms have en suite facilities and are roomy and luxuriously furnished with a contemporary feel. We went with a large group of friends and their children and there was plenty to keep all ages of children occupied, tennis, gym, sauna, trampoline and a fantastic pool if only the weather had been kinder. There is a very nice pub a mile down the road where they serve good food and beer. I would have no hesistation in recomending the house and we will certainly be going back again.

The Lodge, Canon Pyon, Herefordshire

We have just returned from a week's stay at the Lodge, Canon Pyon in Herefordshire. We have a very large extended family (totalling 27) and often go away as a family so we can all be together and enjoy everyone's company. This year was special as my sister-in-law and her family were coming over from New Zealand and we wanted to all be in one location - cook, eat and enjoy the evenings together without having to be in various different cottages/ houses etc. I can only describe The Lodge as being one of the best large houses we have stayed in. The owners have put a lot of thought and attention into the property. It was large enough to accommodate us all - in excellent bedrooms, large and roomy lounges, a wonderful kitchen where we could all cook and sit together (plenty of items to cook with and eat/drink from, which is unusual), a gym and games room which was much used by the younger members of the family, as was the excellent technology - SkyPlus (HD), DVD players and games consoles and wifi broadband which was very useful to some of our party who had work to do with exams coming up and business connections to keep tabs on. The large washing machines and driers proved invaluable to us all. It was tastefully decorated and the garden must be lovely in the summer, once again well provided with outside tables and chairs.
Both the owner and the Property Manager were very attentive, a pleasure to deal with and on hand when we needed them - very prompt and pleasant service. The location was also good - lots to do, places of interest to visit and only a short journey in the car to some big supermarkets for food, so that was good.

I would certainly recommend this property to anyone, and have already done so to some friends of ours, and we would certainly like to make a return visit in the future.
