A Delightful Experience

My friend and I spent 10 wonderful days and nights in Roberto's apartment in San Casciano. We could not have dreamed of a better experience. The apartment is lovely, with every convenience, and it is kept immaculately clean by the owners. There is a beautiful garden in the back where we relaxed in the evening, with a glass of the excellent local wine. There are several great restaurants within easy walking distance. If you choose to cook for yourself, there are wonderful delicatessens and produce shops steps from the apartment.
The apartment is also very well situated for sightseeing, and there is no need to have a car. It is a very short walk to the bus stop that takes you to Florence, and from Florence there are buses available to many of the wonderful sites of Tuscany.
Enough cannot be said of the hospitality of Roberto and his family. We were as sad to leave them as to leave the wonderful apartment and village. There is no doubt we will return, and next time for a longer stay.

My husband Warren and self spent eight wonderful nights with Roberto and his wife Anna in their lovely apartment in central San Casciano.
These seven short days were the highlight of our trip - this area must be one of the most beautiful places on earth – the history, the art, the people and the great hospitality, a combination of which left us with one desire – to return just as soon as we possibly can!

Tuscany Holiday 09

We spent 4 days in Roberto's apartment and greatly enjoyed our stay. The apartment is in the centre of San Casciano, ideally located for a range of interesting local shops and restaurants. The apartment has a very nice terrace with lovely views down the valley. The apartment is well decorated with lots of little touches to make it feel more homely. Roberto is an excellent host and was happy to provide advice and information on the local area. Whilst staying at the apartment we visited Florence, Pisa and Siena all of which are within easy reach with a car. I would recommend this to anyone going sightseeing in Tuscany.

Great introduction to a thriving Tuscan Community

As first time visitors to Tuscany we found San Casciano to be a wonderful example of modern community life, with a large range of amenities, activities and interests available within this compact township.

We spent a wonderful week in Roberto's apartment located conveniently on the first floor. Other reviews have accurately described it and it's very convenient location allowing us to experience this great community, which came to life every evening at one of the range of venues within the township. We may have been particularly lucky to have been their during a summer festival.

The apartment is self contained, with every convenience within a short walking distance. It is kept immaculately clean by the owners who provide unrestricted access to their beautiful garden to the rear of the property, to relax and overlook the working valley below with olives and other crops. The apartment has limited daylight and outlook, so the garden is a great compensation to enjoy the wonderful view, weather and lights that the area enjoys.

San Casciano has great restaurants, wonderful delicatessens, coffee, vintners and produce shops just steps from the apartment. As is a very helpful Information office in the museum providing detail on anything that Roberto overlooked.

We didn't have a car and it was a very short walk to the bus stop taking you to Florence, and from there throughout Tuscany or Pisa and the coast on buses or trains. Early morning travel recommended to be back for the last bus back to San Casciano about 8.30pm.

San Casciano is a working community and visitors are in the minority allowing you to experience the local way of life. It lacks little and seeking out places like the open air swimming pool allow you to fully enjoy your break and have a lazy day from travelling and the crowds in Florence.

Roberto and his family made us very welcome throughout our stay which was a comfortable and enjoyable experience which we thank them for.

A wonderful base to explore Tuscany from.

Review Submitted: April 25, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
The apartment is as you see it and as decribed - no surprsies, except pleasant ones and many of them! It is in the heart of this lovely old town with food shops just yards away from the front door. The car parking space is secure and easily accesible except if you arrive hime after 11:00 and the lift isn't working - then it's up seven stories of stairs! Roberto and his family are delightful people who prepare the apartment to a very high standard. It is well decorated, the bathroom and kitchen are both extremely well equipped. The garden seating area gives you a view over the Pesa valley. The road connections are excellent with Florence and Siena near by and Assis and Pisa within 2 hours drive. The local food and wine are excellent. April proved to be a good time - nicely warm and not too many other tourists. Enjoy!

San Casciano, Tuscany Apartment

We were delighted with the apartment which is located some 50 metres from the centre of San Casciano. The parking space is about 50 metres from the apartment in a private section of a modern carpark accessed by a lift. The apartment itself is on the first floor of a large tastefully renovated 3 storey building where Roberto and his wife Anna live in the top floor apartment. Roberto's mother in law has her apartment on the second floor and his sister in law and her husband and children occupy the ground floor apartment. The building has security locks and each apartment is separate from the others. There is an area to sit and relax with views over the olive trees, the Pesa Valley & Tuscan hills as well as the main town park. Everything in the apartment is spotlessly clean, is new and easy to operate. The town is larger than we expected and has a strong commercial centre. There is a large Supermarket, numerous bakeries, greengrocers and butchershops, an internet cafe, ATMs, restaurants and quality shops. The central area is vehicle free which makes for pleasant shopping & exploring on foot.
Roberto speaks good English and excellent French as well as his native Italian and is a charming host with a wealth of knowledge about the town and the district.
The SITA bus service between San Casciano and Florence is cheap and efficient. We preferred to use it rather than brave the Florence traffic which was chaotic. Sienna was only a short easy drive away and parking readily available.
Fresh linen was supplied each week and the apartment was cleaned thoroughly at the same time.
We enjoyed the weekly markets, the restaurants and the Vino Nuovo as well as all the delicious produce available from the shops.
We would highly recommend the apartment unconditionally.

Even better than the description!

We (myself, my wife and 2 year old daughter) chose 'Borgo 8' and went to San Casciano in Val Di Pesa to relax from the vigours and stress of our every day lives and I'm pleased to report that we did just that. The apartment was very comfortable and well furnished, exceptionally clean and 'homely'. The town itself was pleasant but the best part of the stay was the views - stunning in every direction. Choose 'Borgo 8' if you want an ideal base to explore Florence and Tuscany. The local bus service is second to none, and cheap too! I can't think of anything we disliked during our stay. Oh, and the owner is a credit to the establishment, a thoroughly nice chap indeed.

Aussie Appraisal

My wife and I, along with another Australian friend, spent two delightful weeks at Roberto's apartment in San Casciano at the end of last summer. We found the place easily and we were very impressed with both its tidiness and its close proximity to the village itself. During our stay we visited a number of local attractions in Florence, San Giminagno, Siena and the recently discovered Etruscan tomb. Roberto and his family were perfect hosts and we couldn't imagine being looked after any better. It was a fabulous experience for us all, in this Chianti rich area, for which we give our highest recommendation.
