Much to our disappointment...we're back! We had such a wonderful time and really enjoyed staying at your villa. We found the people in Lucea to be very friendly and welcoming. You will definitely be hearing from us again, as everyone in the family agreed that we have to go back again!
Aside from taking in some of the local sights, like the clock tower and Ft. Charlotte, we decided the bay was so beautiful and relaxing that we didn't want to waste time running around the rest of the island doing 'tourist' stuff. We weren't at the house more than 10 minutes before our girls jumped off the pier into the bay and that was practically the last we saw of them until it was time to leave on Monday.
We absolutely LOVE Jamaican cooking! We went to several different restaurants in town, like the Ruuftop Restaurant and Sea Brieze. The food back home now sort of tastes bland after eating Pepper Steak, Stewed Chicken, Curry Chicken, Curry Goat, etc. all week.

Lovely Lucea

We stayed for a week in August 2009. What a lovely peaceful place! Sure, you can hear the traffic from the road just up the hill - but it is Jamaican traffic, so it is honks, reggae and conversation in melodic patois floating down to you. The bay is very safe and shallow there - so the non-swimmer in the party felt safe to wade in, and the swimmer enjoyed herself floating out to the deeper water. People were very friendly in Lucea - definitely not a tourist town, but very easy to get to Negril or Montego Bay. Moonrise over the bay is not to be missed. Rupert was very helpful and watched over "the nice ladies". This was just what we were looking for - quiet, laid back and relaxing. The real Jamaica! Will definitely stay again.

Great Vacation

I was a little weary about staying in a villa versus a resort, but I strongly feel that to experience a country, resorts are not the way to go. The villa was a perfect affordable home base for seeing Jamaica. Rupert was always very helpful yet respected your privacy. We were traveling with our children, so the villa worked well for us. As far as safety in Jamaica, we found people to be very respectful, but of course in any city, you need to be street smart. We had no problems what so ever! We found a lot of great activities in Ochos Rios and the Bob Marley Masoleum was well worth the drive.

Just wanted to let you know how greatful we are to have come accross the Roundhouse. The house itself is a gem and the morning sunrise from the balcony is breath taking. A great part of our vacation took place just outside on the dock or sitting out by the bay. Rupert (groundskeeper) was very helpful and was there to make us feel at home, his knowledge of the area came in handy!
We recommend The Roundhouse highly. Thank you again for making our vacation special. Hope to visit again soon.

Had a great time in Lucea and this villa was first-rate! We were so happy with the property and the groundskeeper was a trementdous help. I sorely want to come back and visit again! Recommended for those who want to experience the local flavor outside the resorts. This was an excellent place to take road trips from! My advice: stay here, get help hiringe a reputable, local driver, see a lot of the sights, and visit with the locals at one of the pubs in town. Oh, and be sure to visit Juici Pattys in town!

Thanksgiving Holiday 08

First let me say that if you are looking for tranquility you have found it here at the Roundhouse. the house is beautiful the cool breezes that come in from the bay were wonderful so wonderful in fact that you do not need a/c. The rooms were spacious and the living area had ample enough room for guests. The house is secluded enough that you can sun bathe if you wanted. The grounds keeper Rupert was wonderful and makes sure your stay there is comfortable but at the same time respects your privacy. This is the best location to be for anyone that wants to be left alone and just relax. The Town center is within walking distance and Negril is approximately 20mins away. I highly recommend this property. We loved it so much we are thinking about returning again in the summer.

R&R in Jamaica

Review Submitted: May 20, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2007
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time at the Roundhouse in Lucea. The property is right on the quiet bay of Lucea, so we watched both birds and men fish from our lounges on the shore. The yard is well maintained -- as is the house -- and it was enjoyable to sit under the coconut palm trees while sunbathing. The house has an open ceiling plan, so light & sound from one room radiates to all others. The sunken tiled tubs were wonderful and luxurious. The kitchen is stocked with salt, pots, pans, dishes, glasses and silverware. The caretaker is available most days and nights and not only was helpful with local lore, but offered to take us on a day trip across the island's mountains and cooked us a breadfruit and parrotfish lunch. The main road runs just behind the property (at bedroom level) so really light sleepers will find this a problem. Overall this was a great place to get away from the tourists, yet be close to the wonderful beaches (& tourist traps) at Negril (less than 40 km) or even Ocho Rios (120 km). Lucea is a nice small town, and we had the opportunity to make some Jamaican friends - people are friendly!

We woke up to a beautiful sunrise and temperatures in the 80's, that was the morning after we arrived on the island Xmas Eve 06 and looked out over the harbour - it was heavenly, my teenage son joined me on the balcony and said ' mum! this is what life is all about' we visited the town and local beaches during the day but ultimately we could not drag ourselves away from the peace and tranquility of our surroundings. My youngest daughter 9 yrs old lived in the harbour with the local children and had a holiday of a lifetime.

we will be returning August 2008 CAN'T WAIT
