R&R in Jamaica

We had a thoroughly enjoyable time at the Roundhouse in Lucea. The property is right on the quiet bay of Lucea, so we watched both birds and men fish from our lounges on the shore. The yard is well maintained -- as is the house -- and it was enjoyable to sit under the coconut palm trees while sunbathing. The house has an open ceiling plan, so light & sound from one room radiates to all others. The sunken tiled tubs were wonderful and luxurious. The kitchen is stocked with salt, pots, pans, dishes, glasses and silverware. The caretaker is available most days and nights and not only was helpful with local lore, but offered to take us on a day trip across the island's mountains and cooked us a breadfruit and parrotfish lunch. The main road runs just behind the property (at bedroom level) so really light sleepers will find this a problem. Overall this was a great place to get away from the tourists, yet be close to the wonderful beaches (& tourist traps) at Negril (less than 40 km) or even Ocho Rios (120 km). Lucea is a nice small town, and we had the opportunity to make some Jamaican friends - people are friendly!
