Blissful getaway!

We have recently returned from a wonderful few days staying at this most beautiful villa. The weather was glorious and even though it was the end of October it was warm enough to enjoy the lovely pool. The villa is clean, spacious and well equiped. We had everything we needed and more! Car hire is a good idea and there are many places to visit nearby including beaches, shops and local attractions. The information guide at the villa was very helpful. The local bakery in the villiage is perfect for breakfast each day and don't forget to order a pizza from the local pizza shop up in the village...delicious! :-) We will be returning!

Superb Villa

My family and I have been visiting southern France for the last ten years, and as a child I spent many happy holidays in this area. We can highly recommend this villa, as the two weeks we spent there this summer were perfect in every way.
The villa is of exceptional quality, very well equiped and presented, it is lovingly maintained and managed. We can acknowledge with special thanks Gill's support.
The weather was extremely hot and sunny, and the pool and it's surroundings meant we spent many enjoyable hours relaxing at the villa. We certainly intend to return.

Our third visit to the Alberes, and by far the best, in no small part to the superb villa. Just the two of us, but this family home felt just that almost at once. Wonderfully equipped, with everything for the house, barbecue, lounging outside and the pool. Clean and well maintained. Views of nearby mountains from main bedroom, pool and garden were wonderful. Ten minutes walk from centre of village with shops, boulangerie and pizzeria, five minutes drive from supermarket and fast road from motorway to coast.

Excellent Holiday

My family had a very relaxing holiday in July. The weather was amazing. This property is both very well equipped and central for touring. We had an excellent week. This is the second time we have stayed here and it was just as good as the first time. We highly recommend a holiday here.

Fantastic Holiday! Property details spot on.

Review Submitted: September 2, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We recently returned from our holiday at this fantastic villa, the best holiday we've ever had. I grew up in the South-of-France and so am familiar with numerous locations and different types of accomodation. The care and love that has gone in to this property is almost beyond description, in fact the beatiful pictures don't do it justice. The gardens are immaculate ( thank you Patrick ) and very mature, the pool is an absolute dream and my husband was very impressed with the large BBQ.
The rooms were very clean, spacious, well thought out, well decorated and full of so many personal touches it made us feel at home immediately. Gillian is an absolute gem, leaving you to get on with your holiday but just a phone call away should you need advise on anything from where to visit to how to get a taxi from the airport, nothing was too much trouble. We were so impressed that we've already booked for next year!
Everything about the villa was so lovely it just made us smile, from our first view of it through the gates when we first arrived (and couldn't believe that this would be our home for the next two weeks ) to the stunning views of the mountains that we awoke to every morning.
The local village is a 10 minute stroll away, with lots of evening entertainment in the local square should you wish to join in, we spent a few evenings in the Cafe des Artistes which was quite reasonable and thoroughly enjoyable. the boulangerie at the furthest end of the village provided us with much entertainment as the baker has such a fantastic sense of humour and was so welcoming he made us want to move there.
This holiday would be suitable for all ages, with something for everyone. We wish we were still there!

Just Amazing

Review Submitted: June 29, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We stayed in Laroque Des Alberes at the end of June 2009. The villa was an absolute delight; it was as good in real life as in the pictures! The location was ideal close to all you needed - The local Tabac had "The Times" available each day and the local bakers was excellent and open from 06.30. The supermarket was a 5 minute drive away and the village was delightful. We rode the bikes to Sorede for an early(ish) coffee and read of the paper - recommend this. Also walked up the mountain that is the view from the kitchen - stunning setting.

The villa was without fault and had everything provided. Each time we thought "I wonder if there is one of those"? there it was! The pool, including the new cover that keeps in the heat, was a real success and was much used.

Gillian was very helpful and efficient before, during and after the holiday.

We had an excellent time and have no hesitation recommending the villa - You won't be disappointed!

Had a wonderful 2 weeks. The villa is extemely well equipped and we will certainly go again. It was clean and very well maintained. We could have done with 4 sunbeds for 4 adults - but Gill said she would sort it with the owners. Gill was very helpful and readily available if needed. The pool was wonderful and the UV system was so much better than Chlorine or salt systems (no dry stretched skin). The domed sliding cover (not shown in the pictures) kept the water so warm and clean. We have stayed in Laroque before and would certainly recommend the Cafe Des Artistes (Irish Bar) for a warm welcome and a great glass of Guiness pression. We will return - if they will have us.

Wonderful holiday.

My husband and I spent a most enjoyable week in this villa. For the past number of years we have visited the south of France, staying in a different location each time. This was our most enjoyable so far. The villa is perfect, it has absolutely everything one would need for a relaxing enjoyable holiday. It is very well mentained and nicely furnished with breathtaking views of the mountains from the bright, airy livingroom, the kitchen and the balcony off the master bedroom. The pool and garden area are superb and the patio is ideal for dining, The village, ten minutes walk away, is really lovely. I enjoyed walking to the boulangerie every morning for the lovely bread. It has some lovely restaurants, and we dined (outdoors every night) at most of them. Laroque is a great area for wonderful walks in the mountains. The tourist office in the village was very helpful with routes. My husband used one of the bikes at the villa to cycle around to the neighbouring villages. He really enjoyed this, spending hours cycling most afternoons. He had not cycled for years.
Gillian was so helpful and was always available if we needed anything. Her attention helped to make it a perfect holiday.

For more than 15 years we have loved going on holiday to properties all over France. Laroque is a particular favourite in terms of the location of the village and easy access to such a wonderful range of activities. The beaches and the mountains provide great variety and interest. Without question this property provided us with a quite superb base for a terrific three week holiday. Not only are there excellent facilities, very accurately described in the advert, but the friendly and helpful support provided in a quiet and unobtrusive manner during our stay was very much appreciated. The garden and pool provided ideal space and seclusion to enjoy lying in the sun. While we also enjoyed a few walks up into the hills which were easily accessible from the house. The walks range in difficulty but even the easier ones require a fair standard of fitness and are certainly not just an afternoon stroll. For those who enjoy a challenge, walking to the top of Pic Neulos is well worth the effort.

We would recommend the Cafe des Artistes in Laroque, which is only a 10 minute walk from the house, for a 'value for money' meal in a lovely setting. However, within easy reach there are also a range of very good restaurants with our own favourites being 'La Chat Qui Rit' in Reynes just after Ceret or 'The Salamander' in Sorede.

We would have no hesitation in recommending the property for a holiday, the view from the balcony in the bedroom when you wake up in the morning is bound to make your day! We have already booked again for next year.

Well presented and equipped.

A clean and well equipped villa with a lovely view of the Alberes mountain range. The property was uncluttered (great if you have a curious toddler!) but had good storage so it still managed to provide everything we needed during our stay (including a sewing kit and a selection of DVDs and CDs).
The UV treated pool was a real bonus because unlike chlorine pools it did not dry out your skin and hair. Good news for eczema sufferers.
The centre of the village is a 10 minute walk away with several restaurants, a delicious pizza takeaway and a boulangerie. I would also recommend the olive oil available just a couple of doors down from the villa!
One word of caution: the outside tiles around the house and pool were very slippery when wet - take some rubber soled sandals!
