La Casa de Flores

SanJ United Kingdom
Review Submitted: August 27, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We had a lovely, relaxing couple of weeks at La Casa de Flores. The villa had everything we needed for a comfortable stay with our two young teenage boys.

The views over Archez and across the mountains are stunning. Each morning we had breakfast on the terrace in the sunshine whilst we decided whether to stay by the pool for the day or get out and about - there are many other beautiful villages to visit as well as beach resorts and places of interest such as the dramatic caves at Nerja. If you have children, the waterpark Aquavelis is also a great day out (expensive entrance fee, but worth it). There are several good places to eat in the village and lots of others in the neighbouring area.

It is a short (but steep) walk down to the village, but the Cafe/Bar Amalia is just a couple of minutes walk down the hill and has the most friendly owners - we regularly walked down for a nightcap!

You will need a car to get around, but the main roads are in good condition - it takes about 20 minutes to get from the house to the coast along picturesque winding roads.

The area is very peaceful during the day (can be a little noisy early in the morning as the sound travels up from the village when the locals are starting their day), and we certainly felt refreshed after our stay in this lovely rural retreat.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review, I am glad that you had a lovely time and that our Spanish neighbours made you welcome. One of the things that we really like about the location of our house is that we can choose to do as much or as little we want with our days. You have made good use of the close proximity to the coast to visit the water parks during the hot weather and visitors in the autumn often choose to take a day trip to Granada or Seville which are both stunning cities but far too hot in the peak summer months. We also like to have a nightcap in Cafe/Bar Amalia, the owners Imma and Juan are lovely, all of our visitors say nice things about them. After one of Juan's drinks you are certainly guaranteed a great nights sleep!! they also serve lovely churros y chocolate for breakfast at the weekends. It goes without saying that you are more than welcome to return to our house at any time in the future.

A beautiful, peaceful place

We stayed at La Casa De Flores for two weeks in May with our 6 month old son and had a wonderful time. The villa itself was incredibly pretty, there are a wonderful array of flowers and fruit trees in the gardens which are extensive and fairly secluded. We had lemons and avocados picked straight from the trees! Perched on a hillside overlooking a village, you get a tremendous view and stunning sunsets. It was a great place to relax and unwind and there is loads of space to spread out. It is well equipped and we didn't want for anything during our stay. The traditional style village of Archez is only 5 mins walk away meaning there is a shop close to hand, and the larger Competa is a short drive and is very picturesque. We spent a few days on the coast at which is a 40 min drive from the villa, so the location gets you the best of both worlds. I would reccomend this villa to anyone wishing to get away from it all and see a beautiful part of Spain which is off the beaten track. Many thanks, hopefully we'll be back one day.

Owner's Response: We are delighted that you and your family had such a lovely first holiday with your baby son and you certainly had fantastic weather. May is a good time to visit with very young children when the weather is sunny and warm but with less of the high season crush at the airports and beaches. Glad that you managed to make good use of the produce from the trees at differing times of year, there are figs, almonds, oranges, walnuts etc for visitors to enjoy. It goes without saying that you and your family are more than welcome to return at anytime.

Villa in the hills of Andalucia

Irish Rose Dublin, Ireland
Review Submitted: March 22, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
Earlier in the year I fell in love with the description of this villa from the website and reading the few reviews. Excellent communication via email with the owner Margaret and I felt I knew this place inside and out before our visit. I have never seen a better equipped holiday home. We have just spent 12 days (chosen as flexible to fit in with flights in the low season). We had glorious non stop sunshine around 75 degrees heat, relaxing on a choice of 4 patio areas, on the same level, and we can now relate to the photographs that are on website.
In the villa there is a review diary written by previous visitors which is fun, informative and interesting to read and many have returned, which is a testimony on how many people love this villa....therefore you will be lucky if you can find availability.
It is a great base if you want to relax, drawing and painting, or hillwalker. Several trips were taken with a hillwalker who lives locally in Winter and Spring and can take you on a variety of walks both long and short to suit everybody and is very informative on local points of interest. The scenery is picturesque with houses perched on the surrounding hillsides and villages with narrow and often steep with steps paedestrian streets. The newly surfaced road from villa to the village is steep, yes it is a challenge, but even I managed it. It is hard to write a short review, come and visit the villa and read my much longer version.
This house lives up to its name La Casa de Flores, I would love to return here later in the year and see the trees at their most fruitful, and a different selection of flowers in bloom.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely comments Rosemary, it was a pleasure to have you and your family in our holiday home. We do have a lot of guests returning, particularly honeymoon couples returning for future anniversaries, but with a bit of forward planning I am sure that we will always be able to welcome you back. Your weather certainly was superb, the Axarquia is one of the sunniest areas in Spain and it really does make sense to make use of the cheaper flight and car hire prices outwith the peak summer months to get yourself some sunshine at a more reasonable price. The guided walks are a new facility that we have been able to offer this year, in the main walking months from November to April, and I am delighted that you enjoyed using it.

La Casa De Flores

A really nice getaway villa on the outskirts of a lovely village offering great privacy and stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
Very clean and tidy on arrival (and leaving I hasten to add). We had a lovely Christmas holiday and I bet it would be a fantastic summer getaway. Ideal for holidaymakers who want a 'relax by the pool' break, also for those who like to hike as there are charted routes around the locality.

The internet connection and the sky on the TV allowed us to stay in touch with home which was a bonus over Christmas.

Margaret, the owner, must be one of the most helpful people I've never met. Even the most stupid questions are not too much trouble to answer and she really does know the local area too. We didn't have any need fortunately to contact the locally-based people who look after the villa but I'm sure they are helpful if needed.

Outside the gate is a steep hill down to the village, so maybe not for the infirm or poorly mobile. Car definitely required.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely comments about our holiday home, it was a pleasure to have you there. I must say I was a little envious when you told me that you were sunning yourselves on the sunloungers on Xmas Eve although we did enjoy similar weather ourselves at New Year. Visitors should feel free to ask as many questions as they wish and we are happy to come up with the answers. The area is very popular with walkers and mountain bikers outwith the hottest summer months when the pool is much exercise as most people can manage!! The few minutes walk up the road from the village is helpful for burning off a few calories and much easier now that it has been properly surfaced and has real pavements. It is well worth it to be able to walk out for dinner each night instead of having to drive all the time.

This holiday turned into our honeymoon and although our 15yr old daughter was with us, it was the best holiday we have ever had. We took chilling to a level we never thought we could achieve. We found the local pubs/restaurants very friendly, particularly the Thai. We didn't feel the need to explore beyond Competa but will do so next time round. The accommodation is as you would wish at home and is highly recommended.
Amanda and Giles were both very friendly and made it known they were there to assist no matter how small the issue albeit we had none. The pool provides welcome respite form the glorious weather and the evening sky is a treat on it's own. We couldn't recommend it higher particularly if relaxation is what you are looking for.
Many thanks to Brian and Margaret.

Owner's Response: We are glad that you had such a great holiday that turned into a honeymoon. We are delighted that you have decided to book another 2 weeks next year for your anniversary trip. Amanda and Giles are also delighted as they said it was a pleasure to have you in the house. Many of our guests have found the house to be a good choice with a teenager because of the private pool and broadband internet. The friendliness of the local people was the final factor which made us choose this village, along with the stunning views. Looking forward to welcoming you again next year when the wine will still be as good as it was this year!!
Best Regards
Margaret and Brian

' La Casa de Flores was lovely, for us (we are both walkers), perfect location and super being able to walk into the village.
Great that there was plenty of morning sun and if you need be plenty of shade to move into. The house was super, we love the area and I am sure we will visit again'.
