Casa Moinho

Simao United Kingdom
Review Submitted: April 22, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
If you require a peaceful break away from it all with spotless accomodation and a warm welcome this is ideal.
Located on the fringes of a small village with the sea in the distance, the house and villa are surrounded by trees and flowers with an inviting swimming pool immediately outside the 2 bedroom villa.
A car is however essential if you wish to visit the nearby town of Tavira and any of the wonderful beaches.
Cynthia is the perfect hostess, not interferring but able to help in all matters from booking restaurants to advising on the best places to visit and shop.
We have been coming here for many years now and have no intention of looking elsewhere for a wonderful stress free holiday.

A comfortable, peaceful villa beautifully located

M W M Leamington Spa, Warks, UK
Review Submitted: April 8, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
This comfortable and spacious villa is set in a very peaceful and attractive location surrounded by beautiful, well tended, informal gardens. It offers a complete escape from the outside world unless you switch on the TV. The villa is within walking distance of the small, unassuming, working village, Sao Estavao, which has a well stocked general store, a pharmacy and a pub-restaurant. Surprisingly it also has a cash machine. It is within a short drive of the beautiful protected town of Tavira which is a civilised delight and provides a balance to the simplicity of the surrounding countryside.

The coast is nearby and offers the tempting resort of Santa Lucia. This is a restrained but attractive resort with a selective range of competent restaurants and cafes.

The villa then, offers a range of attractive destinations and experiences which are all within easy distance. Never the less it was always a delight to return to the peace and comfort of the villa. This is all very much the result of the villa owner's careful attention to the whole environment. She embodies the spirit of the place, attentive but unobtrusive.

Staying there was a delight in every way.

Casa Moinho at Christmas

Kev and Jaq Derby
Review Submitted: February 3, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
This was our second trip to Cas moinho, the last being at New year 2004. We tend to like trying different places so it is a tribute to this one that we returned so soon. What takes us back at this time of the year is the mild climate and to get away from the ig freeze in the UK. In 2004 it was about 25C, but not quite as warm this time but still nice enough to sit out in the afternoon and for our chosen pasttime of road cycling, which is the reason we come here. there are plenty of lovely road roads and some excellent road climbs for a solid week of winter training. You certainly need a car to appreciate the area. Spain is only a half hour trip away. We stayed in the olive tree house last time but this time it was the pool house and it was just ideal for a Christmas get away. The accomodation was excellent, the facilities were great for self caterers and the owner provided (at a small charge) all the logs we needed for a lovely roaring fire in the evenings when the temperature dropped (as it does with the clear skies). The accomodation is clean and well presented throughout and only about 10 feet from the pool. The showers wer modern and worked very well. there are lemon trees galore to help with the Gin and Tonics and the owners dogs are very friendly. The local village is very quiet and Tavira, about 5-6 miles away is more modern and lively if you are into that. All in all an excellent place for a get away from it all break to de-stress and relax. This will notbe our last trip to Cas Moinho.

Pleasant villa with excellent hospitality

Daryl L London, UK
Review Submitted: October 28, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
We spent a thoroughly enjoyable ten days staying in the Pool House. The villa offered comfortable accommodation with everything we needed and some welcome basic foodstuffs (including wine and beer!) provided upon arrival.

Cynthia is extremely welcoming and friendly. She is helpful in making a number of suggestions of good places to visit and restaurants to eat out at.

The nearest beach is only 10-15 minutes drive away and has glorious sands and good facilities - plus you get to ride on a little train there!

We would happily recommend this as a place to stay.

Why? Not why.....when!

SFJL Boston UK
Review Submitted: June 23, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2007
This will be our fourth year....so there's testimony alone! A true escape from the Rat Race, the Pool House is somewhere where relaxation is almost instantaneous as you walk through the gates. Aagh, "that pool" is so inviting; you just have to accept its allure and jump in!
A few essential food items are provided upon arrival.
No traffic noise here, in fact not much noise at all, apart from the odd moth 'chirping' in the trees.
Your privacy at Casa Moinho is respected, yet Cynthia is very helpful and sociable, especially when searching for local gastronomic delights, of which there are many, if you are willing to seek them out..The local knowledge at Casa Moinho beats Tourist Information hands down for shopping, fish and fruit markets and local markets etc...
As far as The Pool House is concerned, it's ideal; clean, comfortable, 2 bedrooms with separate bathrooms (ideal for families or up to 2 x couples).
If you get the urge to cook, then everything is available..full kitchen facilities.
Children can relax and watch TV if they want and there are shadey areas around the pool and a small patio area to the rear.
We also discovered several table tennis champs that never quite made it!
The beauty of this area is its rustic feel, with Tavira (good restaurants) being just a short drive, Spain is very close with Faro and Villamoura also being 30-40 mins drive,
The village of Santo Estevao offers most essentials, pharmacy, dining out and charming mini markets just a few minutes walk away.
The beaches are very nice and once parked, can be reached by foot, miniature train or even water taxi but a car is almost essential whilst staying in this area.
There are dogs at Casa Moinho but they are the most loveable dogs ever. Our son was frightened of dogs and water, but after our first visit he overcame both those fears....and now looks forward to a return...so thank you.
Each to his own, but we would certainly recommend a stay or two, or three......

We can't wait to return!

Pedresso Lichfield, UK
Review Submitted: June 12, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We stayed in the Pool House and were delighted with everything - the facilities were excellent and as the nights were chilly, we especially enjoyed having a real log fire. The gardens were a delight and we spent a lot of time admiring the gorgeous blooms, often from our poolside chairs. The stunning location with its impressive entrance drive made it a pleasure to 'come home' each day after visiting the lovely towns and villages thereabouts. Cynthia was very welcoming and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. She recommended some excellent local restaurants in St Luzia including Canta Azul and Vincents, which were both great. We will certainly go back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to our friends.

Owner's Response: Thank-you for your comments, I am pleased that despite the rather fickle weather which restricted your golf to one day because of the showers you were happy and comfortable. There are many more excellent restaurants to visit and I will be very happy to welcome you in the future.

A brillant find

Casa Moinho was recommended to us a few years ago by a work colleague and we have stayed in the pool house twice. We are a family with three teenage lads who enjoy a place where you can relax and chill out taking advantage of a wonderful large pool mostly to ourselves or just one or two other people. Table tennis to be enjoyed when the need for abit of exercising needed other than swimming. Some fabulous beaches near by reached by a land train or little fishing boat. Good food round and about in many restaurants but also in the village a couple of minutes walk away in Santo Estevao (booking advisable). Cynthia the owner cannot do enough for you to ensure your holiday is perfect . A car a must though.....

Owner's Response: Thank-you for your review, it gives me great pleasure to know that Casa Moinho and its surroundings can provide the holiday everyone looks forward to throughout the year.
The beach at Barril and the little train that takes you to the beach over the area protected for wild-life is unique., and very popular with the little children (and some of the bigger ones). Many good friends have been made and I look forward to seeing them again
