Winter sunshine in the hot tub

Oxford_Matthew Oxford, UK
Review Submitted: December 30, 2008 Date of Stay: December 2008
Sitting in the hot tub as the sun goes down and the stars blaze out is a great way to end a day of warm beaches or light go-carting. We took our two teenagers here for a burst of sun and relaxation, and had a great time.

A couple of things that you do need: a car, and a liking of animals! This really is a ranch, and the horses and dogs are just a hop from your front door. But you can watch them through the picture windows, and beyond them down to the beach as you stir yourself with an early morning coffee.

Arrieta, with its two small supermarkets, half a dozen restaurants and a lovely relaxing beach is only 90 seconds away in the car. Our absolute favorite place to eat lunch is the piping fresh tapas cooked to order at the beach bar... absolutely fantastic!

Nightlife is very limited in Arrieta: a choice of places to eat out and a couple of bars. You need to head down the coast to Costa Teguise or Arrecife if you want more. Well worth going to Costa Teguise on Friday evening, as it has a nice open air market in the middle of a selection of bars and restaurants.

Good for cooking with a well equipped kitchen, it has all the little extra bits that you have at home (like a rolling pin and spatula), although you may not be cooking very much. The whole house has great little personal touches, a good selection of music, dvds and games and a choice of spots inside and outside to sit, read, chat and eat.

We went looking for a relaxing time with lots of peace and quiet and got it. And with our car, we got out and about most days to see or do something on the island. And when we were back at the ranch, we managed to idle a minute or two in the hot tub... we'll definitely go again and would happily recommend staying on the ranch.
Owner's Response: Its really nice to receive feedback like this as it makes it all worthwhile to know that you are providing something which can help make peoples holiday. Over the years I have stayed in some accomodation which turned out to be not quite as promised and realise the importance of finding somewhere which fits the bill. The Arrieta house - Rancho de los Caballos - really is like a home from home and I believe that everybody who has turned up at the ranch has not been disappointed and had a great holiday into the bargain - but its really nice when someone takes the time to drop me a review as well. - thank you.

Must admit though the ranch is in a unique and idyllic spot - very peaceful and secluded - great views down to the sea and just a couple of minutes from the beach where the Chiringuito beach bar is turning out to be a winner with most people - very reasonable prices and fantastic tapas - not to be missed!

Well it will be nice to hear from some other like minded people who would like to experience this little bit of paradise - just drop me an email from the holiday-rental site or give me a call.................the hot tub is waiting for you!!! Plus there is always a bottle of bubbly in the fridge for your arrival so not to waste time - pop the cork, jump in the tub and relax!!!!!!!!!! Hope to see you soon. Jill and the 4 leggeds x

Relaxation in Arrieta

Review Submitted: October 27, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
Just spent a lovely week at the Rancho de Caballos. Jill, the dogs and the horses made us very welcome. The property is very well equipped, clean and very comfortable. The hot tub was a novelty, but we didn't use it much as we prefer the beach. Jill popped in every afternoon to feed the animals but otherwise left us alone to enjoy the peace and quiet. Having the dogs there made us feel less isolated at night, as the Rancho is well off the beaten track, but Jill will take them away with her for non-doggy people! Arrieta is our favorite place on Lanzarote, a small town on a lovely sandy bay which is 2 mins drive or 10 mins walk from the rancho, with a smashing tapas bar and several very good, but reasonably priced resturants. There is also a well stocked little supermarket, garage and a gift shop. It's an ideal location for anyone wanting to be away from the 'touristy' Playas but still be by the beach. Nowhere is far from anywhere on Lanzarote, but Arrieta is well placed for trips around the island. We can recommend driving to Famara for lunch and another sandy beach or lunch in El Golfo, although this is much more expensive due to it's gourmet reputation. Skip the big Sunday tourist market in Teguise and go to the smaller market in Haria on Saturday or go to Costa Teguise on Friday evening, it's a bit more of a tourist do but there are quite a few good resturants there. Do try the local wines, they are very good, particularly the Yaiza, El Grifo and Bermejo. You can taste at various bodegas. We've been holidaying on the island for 7 years now so have been to all the tourist centres but always visit, the Cactus Gardens. A little bit of Heaven, even with a couple of coaches in, it always seems a tranquil place for a cup of coffee, ask for it Canarian style, cafe condensada, expresso plus condensed milk, but be warned it's addictive! Lanza is not so Grotty if you keep away from the Costas and Playas with their English breakfasts and Sky Sports bars. Try it you'll be hooked.

Beautiful place!! The house is wonderful and every details of the furniture is preciously cured.
Very comfortable, it gives a great view of the ocean and it is filled with any kind of tools you may need to cook and to get some relax in the garden or in the wide living-room.
Each one of the two bedrooms has a bathroom, but they are just a little different...., one has a - whirlpool bath outside, in front of the ocean, while the other offers an incredible view of the sky from the crystal ceiling.
There is a shop nearby in Arrieta and the beach is just at a couple of minutes far by car.
Lovely place to stay with your friends or your loverboy!!

Just spent a lovely peaceful week on Jills ranch. Would definitely reccomend it for people wanting a quiet peaceful break. The ranch is very nice and and in a perfect spot for exploring. The local beach and tapas bar are great and only a minute or 2 away in the car. The localshop/garage is about a minute away and has pretty much everything you need. Jill visits once a day to see to the four legged friends and is a lovely lady with loads of tips for where to go, what to see etc. The dogs and horses are pretty much up to you for how much or little you want to be involved with them. Being dog lovers we loved having the dogs about, but they pretty much take care of themselves if your not a doggy person.
If you dont fancy the beach there are plenty of sun loungers, theres an al fresco eating area and a barbecue and of course the hot tub!
Again if its peace and quiet and relaxation youre after this place certainly fits the bill.

We look for quiet, rural retreat, dramatic landscape, close-by village for supermarket, restaurants, a good location for sightseeing, clean, comfortable, well equiped for occasional meals and sitting outside to enjoy the sunshine and starry nights.
High expectations and this was perfect. Not only but also the hot-tub! and laid back horses. Pretty fishing village with a restaurant for everyday of the week, other quiet villages a short drive away. Easy and varied routes around the island with fantastic places to go.
Jill is a great host, a mine of information on the island and added just that little bit extra.
If you think you might like Puerto del Carmen, don't come here - that visit was horrid!
Thanks Jill for making it a memorable week.

Arrieta Retreat

We stayed for a week in February and had a great time. The house has a wonderful location, was very comfortable, and the children enjoyed being around the horses, especially my daughter, who fed them every evening. The hot tub was a real bonus: it certainly is the best way to round off a hard day at the nearby beach! Lastly, our host Jill was both helpful and friendly, and even though we have been to Lanzarote many times, she provided us with tips on new places to visit, like the Sunday food market at Tinajo. I would happily recommend her house as a great base from which to explore the island.

A delightfully secluded location, Our second visit, so it works for us!! Thoroughly recommended for the ultimate chill-out, relaxing in the hot tub while watching Atlantic breakers.
The new "El Marinero" restaurant at Arrieta well worth a visit.
"El Pescadito" also worth trying.
Local garage shop has all the basics covered.
The beach bar on a Sunday does an amazing Paella.

We agree with all of the other reviews for this property. We especially liked the location in the quieter part of Lanzarote but only 30 minutes from the airport. Jill was the perfect host and has a wealth of knowledge of Lanzarote which proved very useful. The highlight for us was a day trip to the island of Graciosa, a 20 minute ferry trip from Orzola, but do choose a calm day as it can be choppy on the crossing!

Peaceful Rural Retreat

My husband and our 2 and a half year old spent a lovely week here at the end of february. The accommodation was spotless and extremely comfortable. The outside space really made it for us as it meant there was plenty of room to relax both indoors and out. The hot tub was an immediate hit with our daughter as were the friendly dogs and horses. The main beach at Arrieta was clean, safe and easy to get to from the house and we loved both beach side eateries. We would definately recommend this property and holiday to friends.

Horses, Dogs and Hot tub

Review Submitted: February 2, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
Hoping for some winter sunshine we set off for a week in Lanzarote, we did get a couple of sunny days but the rest were chilly, wet and windy. Thankfully there were plenty of interesting places to visit and excellent roads. I would recommend a stop off at Los Hervideros to see the blow holes.

From the airport to Rancho de los Caballos took less than 30 minutes and the final leg is along a well maintained track. The ranch has paddocks on two sides for the horses and vegetable crops growing elsewhere so you are away from it all with a nice view down to the sea in the distance.

Jill, the owner who I had found helpful and prompt in her dealings with our booking, was there to meet us. We also met Jake and Tilly the two Alsatians who live on the ranch with you. Jill comes along each day to feed them and they have beds in the garage and it is entirely up to whoever is staying if you want to let them in the house.

The house has a lived in feel, large lounge, the kitchen has everything you need even cookery books and scales should the urge to cook come over you. I do regret however that we decided to take the two person occupancy rate which only included the double bedroom, we found the room a bit compact for our liking. Being use to a king size bed at home believe me six inches does make a difference (and no we are not overweight), so yes size does matter. The en suite had a corner shower, sink and toilet but for my personal taste lacked a door, still as I found on the first morning while I sat drying my hair at the dressing table you can have a conversation with the person in the bathroom and the mirror acts as a perfect ‘webcam’ so you can even see each other.

The hot tub is great and you can gaze up at the stars at night with only the odd ‘woof’ from the dogs when they spot some imaginary intruder, the twitter of the bats flying around or the gaze of the curious horses over the fence a few feet away to disturb you.
Owner's Response: I am sorry to say that we did have some bad weather that week - it doesn't happen too often fortunately! I am sure the Ranch would have scored a 5/5 again if the sun had come out a bit more. However, nice to know that the guests still had a good holiday even if sun tans were lacking.

To introduce Jake and Tilly the dogs to you - they are rescue dogs from Pals/Sara (a sanctuary here on the island). The dogs have proved to be a great part of many of my guests holiday - being cross collie and husky they are extremely friendly and sociable - part of the family!

Special offer for couples - if there are just two of you then I do give you the opportunity to save some cash and offer you a very good discount but you are only allocated the one double bedroom. The house and garden is still your private space but without the master bedroom. This is great if you just want the location and are not so worried about the overall facilities and would like to save some money.

*******However, if you want a fantastic holiday home from home with the large king size bed, master bedroom and fantastic glass roofed ensuite bathroom where you can see the planes and stars overhead - it really is worthwhile taking the option of all the house - I still offer you a discount for this too, so that couples can enjoy this beautfiul property as well as larger groups of friends and families.

Your privacy is of utmost importance but the horses, dogs and cats have to be fed daily but my presence with the animals takes place in the outer paddocks and fields - I only enter your private garden space if invited for a glass of wine or gin and tonic - not dropping any hints!!!! HA!!!!! I shall look forward to seeing you soon.

p.s. btw it is February and the weather has been stunning - perfect blue skies and fantastic warm temperatures, the countryside is green and the flowers are out - you can't beat it!

Bye for now...............Jill and the 4 leggeds x
