Hi
This is my third visit to the Casa Mardigras. On every visit the the standards have been first class. The pool and the terrace are outstanding, and as we spend much of our time relaxing in the sunshine this is important too us.
Jamie, who manages the villa, was there on our arrival and the provisions we had requested, including the hire of bikes from the local village were all waiting. We warmed to her immediatley, and she was at the end of a phone if we had any questions.
I have spent years visiting the western Algarve and in many ways feel it has become over commercialised and expensive.
The east side is so different, how i imagine the west used to be years ago. The food is delicious and reasonable, at least half the price of the west. Many of the local restaurents are excellent.
The beaches are stunning, miles of white sand and atlantic waves. Much of the east side is a nature reserve so you have to take a short but interesting boat ride to reach the beach.
To summarise, you can relax in the lovely surroundings of the villa, be in the local village of Moncarapacho sampling the best steak and fish around in five minutes. In ten minutes you can be enjoying a drink at one of the small costal towns watching the sunset. If you feel like a trip over to the west side jump into the car and you will be there in half an hour. Everything you need is at your fingertips. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the villa to friends and family.

Owner's Response: This is just how we describe the villa and surrounding area. We try to be as accurate as possible in everything we say - right down to the quality of service provided by our villa manager Jamiee, who will always 'go that extra mile' to ensure our guests enjoy their holiday.

This review is truly reflective of what we have on offer - thanks so much.

We thought the villa was great - really comfortable. In 25 years of villa holidays I don't think we have ever found one so well equipped. The weather was kind to us and we had a lovely holiday. The pool was maintained in beautiful condition by Jamiee.

Of the surrounding area we loved Moncarapacho, Olhao, Tavira and Fuseta Island. The beach on the island is just glorious.

The family have just returned from a most enjoyable time at the Villa Mardigras. The accommodation was excellent, spacious and with good facilities. We found the villa clean and the agent was there to greet us. Having sole use of a pool was wonderful allowing us swimming at any time of the day. We had BBQs on the terrace and enjoyed the lovely sunsets. The villa is in a quiet and peaceful location but within easy reach of local towns. and we took advantage of this to visit sevaral places. We had two evening meals at the Calibri restaurant which has a very nice atmosphere. It was easy to find places to visit and things to do. Altogether a holiday to remember with pleasure.

Owner's Response: Thank you 'Smickolls'. So glad you enjoyed our house and all the facilities the area has to offer.

Too bad you didn't manage the beach at Manta Rota on this visit - it is spectacular - maybe next time.

Review of Casa MardiGras

Review Submitted: January 25, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2008
We've been here twice and hope to visit again. A large, comfortable, clean and well equipped villa in a peaceful rural setting. Even better than the photos or description. Just a little off the beaten track so you'll need a car. That said you're in easy reach of the coast. My husband has limited mobility and we managed just fine.

Owner's Response: This recommendation is much appreciated - thank you.

A lot of hard work goes on all year round to keep the house in excellent order - especially for our guests who never know when they can afford time off work and may want to book at very short notice.

We look forward to welcoming you again - whenever you are ready.

We've stayed in this lovely villa every year since it was finished in 2005.

It is exactly as described and nestles right in the tranquil vale of Larnjeiro. The villa is well equipped and conveniently situated to visit both the most westerly region of the Algarve and for nipping accross the border with Spain (if you want to) to visit the Costa de Luz.

This is the perfect place to relax, it's quiet and comfortable
and offers a taste of the true Portuguese way of life.

I'm just about to book my weeks for 2009.

Owner's Response: Dear Aspley Guests,

We look forward to you enjoying more time at Casa MardiGras - our little slice of the 'real Portugal'.

We do our absolute best to describe the villa exactly as it is and where it is to ensure that the expectation of our guests is met.

Our Villa Management service improves all the time with the valuable feedback that we receive.

Thanks again.

We stayed at this charming villa during July/August 2008. Although at first it seemed a bit off the beaten track, that only added to the charm. There are a few neighbouring properties, but there is never any noise to annoy you while you sit round the huge pool drinking very cheap wine!! (We probably made more noise than all the neighbours put together!) The villa owner, Marlene has thought of absolutely everything to help make your holiday as enjoyable as possible. We ate out every other night. We didn't think much of the Portuguese cooking, although there were a couple of really good restaurants in nearby Moncarapacho. We always went to Olhaou where there are two huge markets with an abundance of fresh fish and fruit and vegetables. We made good use of the BBQ and the kitchen has every utensil and mod con you need. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. Make no mistake, this is not a horribly commercialised area of Portugal. this is the real Portugal, where in the nearby town of Moncarapacho, time seems to have stood still. we visited Albufeira for the day and hated it. Thats not our type of holiday at all and were so glad to return to the peace of the villa. All in all we would thoroughly recommend Casa Mardigras for a family break and would gladly return for a second time.

Perfect Place for us

Ann Newcastle Upon Tyne
Review Submitted: May 11, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
Never having visited the Algarve before, we didn't know what to expect but found everything to our liking. The villa is exactly as described with all amenities for our family group of 8 from 3 generations.
Our 3 & 4yr olds particularly enjoyed the beaches at Barill and Tavira as they involved a little train ride and a ferry, respectively (1 euro for adults). Fresh locally grown fruit and veg were bought in the markets in Olhao as was fish and prawns. There was plenty of seating at the villa outside to enjoy barbecues by the pool. Some of us even ventured into the pool despite it being a little too cool at that time of year.
The restauarant suggested in Moncarapacho is well worth a visit -or two(Callibri's?).
The villa is set on a hillside along a little track which meant it was suitable for walking, jogging and generally enjoying the quiet. The cool breezes must be an assett during the summer months. We hired a 9 seater bus which allowed us to pick up stores from the larger supermarkets in Olhao (aswell as finding a sportsbar for the Chelsea match), pop into Moncarapacho, visit the Riao Formosa nature park and have a look around Tavira and Faro. We weren't impressed by Faro but enjoyed Tavira. The whole area is good if you enjoy birdwatching. It was always good to return to the villa where there were all the facilities required to have hot showers, prepare food and occupy the kids with english TV and music. The villa grounds are well fenced so the children can't wander off but someone needs to be on watch by the pool as there is not a seperate gate to this area. We didn't find this a problem as we spent a lot of time at the poolside.
It was easy to get cheap flights from Stansted ( our children and grandchildren live in the south of England). This was a really enjoyable family holiday and I have recommended it to friends.

We had a truly terrific holiday. This house is beautiful and there is nothing you could add to enhance the accommodation. The villa was spotless when we arrived and the pool was kept very clean. We are going again in 2008.

Thank you very much for providing the perfect base for a perfect holiday. 10 out of 10 without any hesitation.
