Great Place to Stay

Review Submitted: March 6, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
My partner and I have been back quite a few times over the past 4 years and our last visit was for 3 months, so we must like the place or else we would not keep going back Its an amazing place to stay. The Gardens are very well maintained, good size swimming pool and the accommodation is fine.
The Manager/Owner, Leighton is very friendly, approachable and always very helpful.
The Quinta is quite close to Lagos town centre and you can walk in and will take about 15/20 minutes. Large Supermarket is just 5 minutes away and has a very good/vast selection of items.
Plenty of places to eat out, wide choice of Bars, plenty of beautiful beaches to walk along or sunbathe.
We have always hired a car through Leighton and found it to be a great asset as their are so many wonderful places to explore along the Algarve. If you do not wish to hire a car, just a short distance away, their is a Holiday Travel Place where you can book Coach Trips.
Being that the Quinta offers various accommodation, we have made some friends via other guests staying their and kept in touch with them. Also, friends of ours have now stayed at the Quinta and are returning this May 2009 for another visit.
We also hope to return at some point during 2009.

Amazing Quinta Santo Phunurius

The house is very much faithfull to description with its large living room and bedrooms and convenient room space everywhere that gives it a pleasant and restfull atmosphere. The kitchen is very well equiped for any kind of cooking. We were particularly fascinated by the very romantic garden with its huge trees, especially by the avocado tree, the pond and the large swiming pool. The owner lives close to the property and is all time helpful. We appreciated the welcome gift when arrived from a long trip to Algarve. Highly recommend Casa.

Rustic Relaxation

Review Submitted: February 23, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
If you enjoy the advantages of being close to nature, the facility of a beautiful garden full of interesting flowers, fruit trees and wild birds of every description, the Quinta will fulfil your requirements on those days when all you want to do is chill out. The accommodation is a mixture of 'past colonial', a touch of the seventies and rustic Algarvian and the owner will do his best to attend to your needs and requirements.

The beach facilities are not very far away, especially by car, and depending on requirements there are quite a few to choose from, the very large sandy Meia Praia, beautiful Dona Ana or Porto de Mos to name a few. Further afield there are many more with natural surroundings and lots of dramatic character.

Sightseeing of all the rest of the Western Algarve is easily accessable, just a short drive and the new motorway is on hand. For the more adventurous local transport (bus stops) are a short walk away and Tourist Information in the town will provide knowledge of numerous places to visit, historical and activity orientated. Windsurfing and golfing enthusiasts will already be aware of the local facilities in this area.

The Quinta is situated within walking distance of the new and old town of Lagos. Shopping at the local large supermarket will provide anyone with all their requirements on a daily or weekly basis and smaller shops, chemists and a food market is not far away. There are numerous cafe/bar/takeaways and restaurants locally and in the town to suit the palette of the most discerning of tastes, and affordability.

The plate of the day in the cafe/bars is well worth trying and relatively inexpensive for something so tasty. It can range from local fish (seasonal catch) to oven done meat
potatoes all served with local bread and a selection of vegetables or salad. The variety of food and restaurants in the locality is extensive. Special occasions can be celebrated in the renowned upmarket establishments in town and a new one near to the Quinta, the Vintage, is particularly a favourite of ours.

We love this part of the Algarve and have been spending at least one holiday a year in Lagos for more than sixteen years. The town itself has changed, developed, modernised in part, but it still has a distinctive appeal that makes us want to return. This coupled with, for us, the ideal location makes the winter months in the UK more tolerable when we know our holiday is not too far away.

Quinta Santo Phunurius is spacious and full of rustic charm. Our party of 19, (4 families with 5 children and 6 teenagers) hired the main villa and two separate adjoining villas on the Estate. Quinta Santo Phunurius is set in wonderful gardens with a good sized swimming pool, plenty of sun beds and shade if required.

The villa is well equipped and our party especially enjoyed sitting on the large first floor balcony area overlooking the gardens.

Lagos town centre is a 20 minute walk away, unfortunately all uphill on the return journey, but definitely worth it. The centre is a bustling attractive place, with plenty of bars and restaurants situated in quaint cobbled streets, flat shoes are definitely recommended!

The beaches are a five minute car journey away and a large supermarket which stocks everything, literally a few minutes walk.

Leighton the owner who lives on site was very helpful but never obtrusive.

I would recommend the villa to large parties.

We found a gem in Portugal

On finding the Quinta santo Phunurius on the net I thought there must be a catch, it looked too good to be true. However on arrival we were greeted by the welcoming owner who showed us around the property and the beautiful garden. We were a family of ten and the accommodation was perfect. Anything we needed was suppled, no silly extras!.
We have now visited this site about five times and have never been disappointed , sometimes alone in a cottage and sometimes taking three if the big villa was already booked. If you are looking for a Modern, plastic, cold, soulless holiday look elsewhere. If however you are looking for traditional buildings with more than adequate facilities, a most obliging owner and only a walk away from Lagos then this is for you. I forgot to mention the pool, set of coarse in the lovely gardens. I cannot recommend this property too highly.

Quinta Santo Phunurius, Lagos, Algarve

My husband and I and three children are about to go back to the Quinta Santo Phunurius for the fourth time in five years. All the properties are quiet (we've stayed in both Casa Pequena and the main house), the garden is even lovelier than it looks in the photograph and the pool is perfect. We like the fact that you can walk to the hypermarket and down into town for dinner but can get away from it all once you're inside the grounds.

Only 45 minutes from Faro airport, Lagos is a great base for exploring the wild and often deserted west coast beaches or for heading up into the hills of Monchique. Lagos also has some good beaches of its own, though they can get quite busy.

The cool, spacious main villa sleeps two large families very comfortably and the owner (and his friendly, gentle dogs) could not be more welcoming and helpful. This is not the place for travellers who like five-star hotels – but you will have guessed that from the cost, which is considerably less than even the most basic hotel. We think it is incredibly good value and have had many happy holidays here.

Stay here to fall in love with Lagos

This was really the first experience of renting a house and being in Portugal in my life. And very positive. The Quinta consists of several isolated properties for different parties and you will feel private for sure. The guests will have access to really amazing garden, but be vary careful at night and not to step on swab. In quinta you will feel very close to nature and surrounded by plants and animals, Mr Leighton will surprise you by dogs, cats and even chickens in his area.
Lagos will strike you with unforgettable beaches, just ask Mr Leighton and he will tell you all about the area. He is very hospitable and friendly, you will feel just like at home. You will be secure and far from crowd of tourist city. Just some helpful tips:
1. arrive during the day
2. car will be very helpful (although taxies are very economical in Lagos so you probably will cope without a car)
3. if you like to sleep till lunch ask for a house in the garden

We stayed at Quinta santo Phunurius back in November 2008 and had a fantastic 10 day stay the place was very clean tidy and the owner very friendly he made us feel very welcome and much wanted. On the first night providing us all a welcome pack of wine crusty french bread loaf and a roaring open fire to greet us :-) Also taxi bookings or printing out lost documents was also no problem for the owner The accomodation is of a good clean size standard and the complex has a fantastic garden large and a good size swimming pool even though november is a cold and quite month all over Portugal we loved so much. We are also going back in May 2009 for a 2 week stay to see what warmer weather has to bring hopefully a go in the pool and a wonder around the gorgious gardens and area. A love of animals would suit thouse as there is dogs cats hens horses even more all around even though they do not bother or hassle you it is lovely to see wildlife and farm animals when staying somewere modern but yet old and so rustic I would reccomend this to anyone who wants pleasure and leisure !

Thanks Andy
