AUGUST 2009

Fantastic apartment, fully equipped, spotlessly clean and very comfortable with a wonderful pool. You will need a car but the location is ideal for exploring the area. The swimming lake nearby is well worth a visit and Narbonne beach is not too far away. We had a lovely relaxing holiday, just a shame no garden to dine 'al-fresco' but the views form the large windows almost make up for it!

A wonderful place

Le Petit Chateau is a wonderful secluded haven in beautiful surroundings. The views from the apartment are indeed spectacular. The infrastructure is convenient and the location makes a good basis for a lot of marvellous trips to sights in the Languedoc region. (Having a car is essential.) The apartment itself is spotless, luxuriously furnished and equipped, and certainly makes the most tasteful holiday home we ever had. The one setback is that it does not have a private terrace or garden, nor a balcony, so if having a cool class of white wine outdoors while the sun sets is essential to your holiday experience, you should be aware of that. Still, it well deserves its 5 stars.

Fantastic location

Having just returned from a 2 week holiday at Le Petit Chateau with our 2 sons (17 & 10) we can thoroughly recommend it as a base for enjoying the scenery and attractions, both nearby and further afield. The appartment was clean and had everything we required for a comfortable stay, and the nearby communal pool was perfect for cooling off through the day.A hire car is essential but we found driving in the area pretty straight forward. A Rough Guide book of the area found amongst a selection of books in the appartment along with leaflets for local attractions and a road map proved really useful in helping us plan our days. We had no problem finding somewhere different to go each day. Our favourite day out was to the Cathar Castle at Peyrepertuse followed by a drive through the Gorges of Galamus - stunning! Loads to do and see, good food (but take a phrase book if your French isn't up to much!) and a friendly atmosphere. We really enjoyed our holiday.

The description of this apartment is just as you will find it, all the pictures can be believed. The pool was perfect as we had times of complete privacy and quiet and we enjoyed our trip to the local shops for bread every morning. The surrounding area was beautiful and gave access to not only the busy town of Carcassone but many castles and villages to get lost in. We absolutley loved it.The property is clean, well maintained and with all the modern appliances that would expect to find at home, hence the title. We dream of returning to Le Petit Chateau again and feel it would suit one of two couples perfectly for a peaceful getaway.

perfect place for a quiet week

we had a great week - visiting nearby Carcassonne, walking, sleeping! , wine tasting, etc... The appartment is a real appartment - fully furnished with nice comfy sofa's and most mod cons ! The riding school nearby (10 minute hike up the mountain) is of a high standard: none of the 'horses-carrying-around-tourists-impersonating-a-bag-of-spuds...' that you see throughout the Camargue e.g. June was perfect for us as it was still very quiet.

Le Petit Chateau at Cuxac

My wife and I spent a very enjoyable week with a couple of friends at the Petit Chateau in mid-June. Very quiet, peaceful and rural location .. a car is pretty much essential unless you're content to just walk to and from the local village. The apartment was clean and well equipped. We weren't left thinking that we wish we had bought a something or other. If I had to be picky our only concern on arrival (as we were 2 'mature' couples sharing the apartment) was the single, tiny and (to us) quirkily situated loo ... happily it wasn't a problem although its size did cause some amusement with the ladies. As for the location it suited us very well as a centre for exploring (by car) and would probably also appeal to those who like hiking and riding holidays. Probably not so suitable for people who just want to chill out in the sun with a beer and a book. We did a lot of touring around and as well as the general interest in all things French and places new there's also the Cathar history and/or the various grail legends to immerse yourself in. Carcassonne is well worth a visit but be aware that inside the walled city it is very 'touristy' and can get very crowded. And of course there's ample opportunity for dining out. Particular favourites with us were Le Moulin de Trebes on the canal du Midi at Trebes and Le Marque Page at Montolieu. All in all an enjoyable holiday in a pleasant (if somewhat remote) location ...

Beautiful flat and beautiful setting - we loved it

My wife, son and I have just returned from a week in Le Petit Chateau, and we absolutely adored it. The flat is in a beatiful location, just 30 minutes from Carcassonne and situated high enough in the mountains to not suffer from too much heat on the warmest days of the year.

It contains everything you need for a comfortable 'home-from-home' stay, and the living room in particular is lovely, with plenty of space and fantastic views across the mountains towards the Pyrenees.

There's plenty to do in the area, although you do need to have a car as there's little within walking distance in the immediate vicinty.

Alistair was always tremendously helpful, the property was immaculately presented and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this enchanting place to anyone seeking a quiet and restful getaway.

Comfortable and homely accommodation with magnificent views and a good sized pool in the grounds. Very relaxing undiscovered part of Europe with the centre of prehistory within striking distance and many delightful towns to explore.

The first storey apartment is well equipped and comfortable in a great location with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside towards Carcassonne and the Pyrennes Mountains. The owner provided a very useful guide with tips on things to see and places to eat (we really would concur with the advice on restaurants).

Stay at Le petit Chateau

Phyllis1 Scotland
Review Submitted: July 14, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
We have just returned to Scotland after a weeks stay at this property. It was a beautiful, extremely well appointed apartment in an absolutely glorious location.
Although it was a bit out of the way this was part of its charm and as long as you had a car it was fine. It was a pleasure to drive to Carcasonne or the other surrounding towns for our dinner at night. We had a eight year old with us who was totally taken by the whole experience, starting with what he called the treasure map to get the keys, loved the horses, the pool, the bathing lake and adored the Medievil city of Carcasonne.I would definately recommend this apartment to anyone who is looking for a relaxing peaceful break, that also has the opportunity to go out and do a variety of activities within a 50km radius.
We had a fantastic time.
