Wicklow Farmhouse

very comfortable location - remote, yet close to small town and accessible to the entire east coast area. Good communication with owners at all times. They met us in town to be sure we could find the house as it is up several small roads and the final driveway would surely be missed by a new comer to the area. Owners are very accomodating and make you feel right at home. Views of surrounding farmland and hills is stunning and very relaxing. Wickow Way trail very near property that you can access for nice walks. Modern amenities in house are nice. Showers are small but tubs are large. Kitchen is large and nice to cook in. Property was well maintained and comfortable to stay in. We used the house as a base for two weeks in Ireland. The owners provided a nice and convenient suggestion for us to travel to Dublin, and gave us directions to park outside of the city and told us which bus to take in. We would not have figured it out without their help and it made the trip into Dublin very easy. Travel to Dublin was 60-75 minutes. Golfing is very near and we played five courses which were all about 30-60 minutes away. Incredible courses with excellent views of forests, rivers, lakes and the ocean. When I travel, I like cozy down bedding with very comfy pillow top mattresses adn big fluffy pillows- the beds were functional and comfortable but not overwhelming 'cozy'. 3 rooms had twin beds and one a double - a queen would have been nice, but the farmhouse has small rooms. Maybe more a matter of personal opinion vs a dislike. The large dining, kitchen andl living room area are very warm. The heating in the house is very comfortable. You can hear rain on the windows at night which is pleasant. I would recommend this highly.

Our Stay

We had a wonderful time . Traveling with 2 children and 2 close friends we couldn't have found a better spot .
It was child friendly with every amenity one would want - important traveling with 2 younger children and important traveling with two foodies ( our friends love to cook ) . The house was big enough for all of us with a TV room and separate game room upstairs . We took the extra room to give our friends some private space although we need not have .
The owners were wonderful , they gave us the run down of the house , suggested local walks ( the house is right on a hiking trail ) they even supplied us with basic necessities until we could stock up . We did a lot of sightseeing around Wicklow and the Dublin area and always found the house welcoming to come back to .

Peaceful, rural holiday house

The Vught Connection The Netherlands
Review Submitted: October 16, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
This was a well equipped, clean & spacious holiday home. The facilities in the house were first class. The outdoor space was beautiful and extremely child friendly. The owners were extremely helpful on arrival and provided much information to help us find our way around Ireland. The location is quite remote and perfect for those who want to "get away from it all " but located perfectly to explore the rest of Ireland. The local village was small but had many shops so grocery shopping was not a problem. This is a perfect holiday accomodation for those who enjoy the countryside and a peaceful holiday but want to enjoy it in extreme comfort! I would recommend this property - suitable for families and large groups.

a wonderful week in an astonishing nice house

Review Submitted: August 21, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We 4 (2 Austrians and 2 Swiss) had a beautiful time in this really great and nice house.
We made sometimes long walks, especially on the very pleasant Wicklow Way, and several trips to a lot of interesting places you can reach within approx. 1 hour by car: Kilkenny, Glendalough, Powerscourt House and Gardens, Avondale House and Forest Park, Russborough House, Baltinglass Abbey, Wicklow, Arklow and Dublin.
We found the train from Rathdrum to Dublin very convenient, you don't need a car or bus in Dublin and Pearse Station is well in the town center, so you can reach most places of interest by foot. We highly recommend the Book of Kells in Trinity College and the Chester Beatty Library, both great impressions.
The next small town Tinahealy has some good pubs and food stores.
The house itself is very comfortable, very clean, has plenty room, is beautiful situated with great views and is generally an astonishing experience where you feel really good. You will get what you see.
The owner is very friendly and helpful.
We recommend this house to everyone seeking quiet and comfortable holidays in a healthy environment and also to those who like to investigate the Wicklows and also Dublin.
We hope to spend one or more weeks there another year.

“it doesn’t get any better than this”

Nomads Melbourne Australia
Review Submitted: July 16, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We needed time to rest and regroup and found this home was perfect for our requirements. We had six glorious weeks enjoying Co Wicklow in this beautiful country setting.

It has the most stunning views of rolling green hills of small pastures with sheep and cows and sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine in the evenings we thought “it doesn’t get any better than this”.

We found that there were lots of places to visit for day trips (and plenty of information provided in the house) and particularly enjoyed Glendaloch (on weekdays); the walk to Loch Dan and Altamont Gardens. Most of our time, however, we spent exploring the little country roads and stopping for a walk; and we think the best bit of the Wicklow Way runs over the creek at the bottom of the property and up over the hill.

The house is a family home so is very well equipped and has quality furnishings not always found in holiday accommodation. Mary and John were very friendly and helpful and genuinely concerned that we enjoyed our stay. We were very fortunate that we had lots of sunny, warm weather and it was also fine watching the clouds roll by on other days and have the time to read in a comfortable warm house.

We would absolutely recommend this property, and its owners, to anyone we know!

Excellent stay in Wicklow County

Review Submitted: May 13, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
Fantastic stay in Ireland. We went there with 3 children (7, 5 and 2) to relax and discover the beauty of Irish countryside. John and Mary's farmhouse is extremely well maintained, comfortable with all possible equipment (including plenty of toys for our kids and even some groceries and fresh food ready in the fridge !) The view is breath-taking from there and it is also a very convenient place to go and visit Dublin, Powerscourt, Glendalough etc...

This place was awesome!!

Family of four from AZ Arizona, USA
Review Submitted: January 17, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
After several weeks of travel it was the perfect end to our vacation. Very clean, quiet, comfortable home with gorgeous stone work. The owners were so nice, they even stocked up on some essentials and just asked that we replace. Small things that made us feel welcome. LOVED the kitchen and capaccino maker.

My boys loved the fooseball and tree fort. AWESOME views and the "courtyard" area in the front of the house is fantastic!

Beautiful country views, walks, and the little town is so sweet. Not a lot of night life, so if you are looking to really party this isn't for you, but we liked being away from the tourist traps. I would recommend a GPS especially if you are unfamiliar with this area, but it's not too far off the beaten path. About 10-15 minute drive into town.

We travel as a family quite a bit and of all the places we've stayed, this was our family's favorite:)

Great getaway

JBCT Southwell, Nottingham, UK
Review Submitted: November 14, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We rented this property in the summer, despite the rain, we had a great 2 wks and would have no hesitation in recommending it. The cottage is very well equipped and as the family use it for their own family also, there is everything there you could possibly wish for. The cottage is in a very rural location so is very quiet which suited our family. The views are very impressive and there are lots of good walks from the cottage. Tinahely is the nearest town with good local shops and a couple of takeaways. We took a day trip to Dublin which was a good day out and the Waterford Crystal factory is well worth a visit.
