A long weekend in Spain

We went for a long weekend to stay in 'Las Mimosas' which is about a 10 minute drive outside Denia on the Costa Blanca. The top-floor apartment (don't worry - there is a full sized lift) is positioned on the side of a hill with wonderful views directly towards the coast and has 3 good sized bedrooms, an enormous private roof terrace and a large communal pool in the gardens. It is far enough from town for some peace and quiet, but close enough to benefit from all the amenities that Denia offers. Mount Montgo and the La Sella Golf Course are away to the right - there is a Hotel with a Spa at the golf course which has 18 holes over 6595 yards. The course has plenty of character with mature trees, lots of variety and stunning views all around. The Golf course has a bar/restaurant with cold beer and well-priced food for after your round of golf.
The nearest airport to Denia is Alicante which is a fair drive along the highway so a hire car is absolutely essential if you want to realise the full potential of staying at this apartment. Alicante is in one direction down the coast while Valancia is about one hour in the opposite direction. If you enjoy an excess of nightlife, Benidiorm is between Denia and Alicante, although there are several nightclubs and lots of cabs in Denia so you don’t need to travel very far for a night out. Valancia, with its mixture of contemporary architecture and old-world charm is an absolute must for a visit while you are staying at Las Mimosas. There is a small shop within a 5 minute walk, so you can buy essentials like milk and bread around the corner, although we did most of our shopping in the good size supermarkets in Denia itself.
Denia is a charming town - not a manufactured destination like so much of the Costa-del-Sol, but a thriving local town full of character with restaurants to suit any size of wallet and preferred cuisine. Las Mimosas has an well fitted kitchen with all the usual appliances you'd expect, but we chose to eat out every night. (Even though we were there for 5 nights, there are still a huge number of restaurants left for us to try on our next visit.) Since Denia has a thriving fishing harbour, fresh fish is always on the menu alongside the usual meat dishes. (No one in our party was a vegetarian so I can't comment on vegetarian options in the local restaurants.) All told, I am very happy to thoroughly recommend Las Mimosas, but you will need a car to get the best out of your visit.
Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review - you've captured just about all of the elements about the area that we love.
Just wanted to clarify to any future guests that it isn't a roof terrace - but we are the penthouse apartment and therefore the top terrace. As you say - great views.
Really pleased to hear that you used the cabs to get in and out of Denia - we've used them and they are good value - makes a change from having a nominated driver.
Well - thanks again for taking the time to review. Hope to see you again.
Jane & Calvin
