First class - beautiful and hospitable.

Review Submitted: May 12, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
Absolutely first rate. Thanks to Eldar and Heidi we had a really special time. The cabins are warm and cosy and much more interesting than staying in a generic hotel somewhere. There is no need to leave Ortnevik you have lakes, waterfalls, the fjord, whales, snow, forests, deer and much more on your doorstep.

The cabins are extremely well equipped and Heidi and Eldar have a vast DVD collection that you can borrow when you want. When the weather turns there is nothing better than being curled up by the fire with a good film. They also let us use their fishing gear, and borrow the rowing boat (that Eldar built!) to go out into the Fjord.

Many thanks again for making our holiday unforgettable. We will be back!

Idyllic Getaway

V-man Limerick, Ireland
Review Submitted: May 22, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
We stayed in the log cabins for a week in the middle of February, when the country had experienced a few feet of snow a couple of weeks before. The surroundings were amazing and absolutely beautiful and pristine.

We stayed one night in the stone cabin before spending the remainder of the stay in the wooden cabin. The cabins were very cosy, well-maintained & clean. There was a fireplace in the wooden cabin, and there was no shortage of wood provided for the fire. A hot tub was also situated outside by the cabins for use, and it was very enjoyable.

Most importantly, our hosts were very warm and welcoming. The level of service was very high, and they did a great job of looking after us, from providing detailed instructions of the different possible ways to get to the location, to guiding us on the road itself, helping us with our car and luggage up the slopes in the snow, and ensuring we had planned sufficient to return back.

I would definitely recommend this as a place to go if you want to spend time by yourselves or with your families, and there are some very beautiful walks and trails around to stay active. It is also perfectly suited as a place to disconnect from the rest of the world and just read a book and de-stress.

I will definitely return back again.

The description was very good and very acurate. The cabin was exactly as was described to me. The cabin was spotless, and maintained to a very high standard. The owner provided a brilliant customer service, making sure there were provisions there for the first night stay. I would recommend this cabin to my family and friends. The activities, were as described. Walking, beautiful scenery, reading, sleighing, listening to music. For me the cabin was 5 stars.

UNA CÁLIDA CABAÑA EN EL BOSQUE JUNTO AL FIORDO

Ángel España
Review Submitted: March 20, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008

Stone Cabin, Ortnevik

Rachel and Roy Hertfordshire, UK
Review Submitted: September 18, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We stayed in the Stone Cabin at the end of August and had the most fantastic.week. The cabin has fabulous views of the village and fjord and is surrounded by mountains. Inside the cabin is lovely and very homely...the kitchen was better equipped than at home, and should have everything you'll ever want. The underfloor heating was also a welcome bonus, and came in especially useful for drying wet running shoes and trainers!

Just staying around Ortnevik offers plenty to do: endless walks, longer mountain hikes, cycling trails, rowing, fishing, swimming in the fjord (incredibly cold when we braved it!), or just sitting around enjoying the scenery. Further afield from Ortnevik, there are plenty of day trips by either ferry and/or car. One of our highlights was climbing the mountain behind the cabins which you can see from most of the village: it's an effort to get up there but the views from the top are amazing and well worth the effort. If you don't want to go all the way, there's also a little cabin about two thirds of the way up which is a good stopping point, also offering fantastic views of Ortnevik.

The host, Heidi, and the rest of her family are the most helpful people you could wish to meet. They know all there is to know about the area and have enough suggestions for day trips to occupy a whole year. They'll also provide you with maps of the area so you can plan trips and walks.

Ortnevik is literally at the end of the road, with the nearest big town quite a way away. However, we didn't find this a problem in the slightest: there's a well stocked village shop and Heidi has plenty of DVDs to borrow if you want some evening entertainment.

Overall we had a great time...a week just isn't long enough!

Fantastic honeymoon in the Stone Cabin, Ortnevik!

Dan & Emma Birmingham, UK
Review Submitted: September 3, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We had a fantastic time on our honeymoon in the Stone Cabin. The cabin was in excellent condition and everything matched the description on the website. The views around the sognefjord are fantastic and the real highlight of the cabins is the outdoor hot tub which was heated ready for us to use the moment we arrived!
The owners are extremely friendly and provided excellent customer service, they were always available for suggestions and advice and have an amazing knowledge of the sognefjord!
I would recommend this property to any holidaymakers although particularly families and outdoor enthusiasts.
One point to note, although the road links are excellent (in 2 weeks we never came across a traffic jam), it is at least a 2 hour drive to the nearest large cities. Having said that, the Ortnevik shop (open every day) provides everything you need.
There are loads of activities to do, we particularly enjoyed swimming in the fjord, quadbiking up the mountain behind the cabins, walking around the mountain tracks, our 2 hour trip north to see the glacier (northern Europe's largest), and visiting Bergen.

Fantastic location. Imagine sheer, wooded hills with tumbling waterfalls, a view of an idyllic village and accessible fjord. really really helpful owners, wonderful hand-built eco-friendly cabins.
Wonderful fjord beach within 2km steep walk or cycle away. The steepness of the track up to the cabins may deter some with physical disabilities.
It was a perfect place to just sit and take in the scenery but had many walking tracks from the cabin from a 20 minute walk to a beautiful lake to days-long National Park trails. Can't recommend it highly enough. Why haven't you booked already!!.

Marvelous place on the mountainside

Glen&Kay Lindstrom, MN USA
Review Submitted: July 9, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
This was a wonderful place for a getaway. Heidi was the MOST helpful person by far of all the places we stayed while on our tour of Norway; giving us ideas and plans, suggestions on travel and itinerary - she is so "on top of it"(as we say here in the 'States). We could not fail in following her advice and directions. Even in our last-minute changes, she knew just what would be the best thing for us to do. And her promptness in returning our emails was fantastic. We could count on her to communicate always.

Anders and Christie were wonderful hosts that we can't say enough good about. So personable and approachable - and fun, too! And Anders' work around the farm was museum-quality, and admirable. We felt like we left some friends behind when we had to go.

The hikes were spectacular; the cabin was so cozy and comfortable, and relaxing. We were so entertained just walking around and asking Anders questions about his life and activities; or hiking to the lake, or going out in the boat. We really did not like to leave. This spot was the highlight of our trip to Norway, and we highly recommend it to anyone seeking to get away. We felt like we were living inside a storybook while we were there.

It is not for those who want to see the city, that's for sure: There are no restaurants, theaters, hang-outs, etc. But that is part of what makes it attractive. Rent a car to get there - it's at the REAL end of the road. But getting there is a minor inconvenience compared to the reward of being there.

We enjoyed an one night stay with perfect weather at this location.
A very friendly contact to the owners, accomplied by a guided tour to the power station was an example for hospitality we have seldom seen anywhere.

The cabin has got an very warm atmosphere and you wil find all you need. The kitchen is well equipped and you can even watch DVD's on rainy days (sorry, we haven't had one ;-).

Enjoy your stay at this cabin, please feel free to contact me for more information.

The perfect escape

MacKay Somerset, England
Review Submitted: June 15, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
If you like a freindly welcome in a remote place with quality accomodation in traditional style then this is almost unbeatable. My family (two adults and two small children) spent a week here and loved every moment. It may be a long way to drive to nearby towns but there really is no need to. Ortnevik has a charm which can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace on foot or climbing and mountain biking on the extensive tracks and trails. If it's snowing or raining I'm sure it is equally as beautiful (the heated stone floors are great for drying shoes and coats!)

Your hosts will look after you very well or leave you alone if you prefer and are happy to share local knowledge. Highly recommended and a place you will want to return to - we do.

Owner's Response: You certainly entered into the spirit of things, I seem to remember you braved the fresh, brisk (... all right downright cold) waters of the fjord, well done! We are glad you all enjoyed it here.
