Superb apartment with a great view

The apartment is ideally situated above the city, the view from the balcony affords an outstanding panorama of the natural amphitheatre of the bay of Funchal
The apartment is tastefully decorated to a very high standard throughout and was spotlessly clean when upon arrival. A good selection of electrical appliances was available in the spacious kitchen, there’s a gas hob with electric oven and a microwave and oven combo also.
Visit the Mercado dos Lavradores to see what’s available in fresh produce and then stock up the kitchen. If you like seafood you’re in for a treat, be sure to try the amazing Black Scabbard (Espada Preta) fish. There’s a bakery about three hundred metres away (opposite the Centro Civico), which opens on Sundays also.
A choice of satellite TV channels is provided in several languages (only BBC World in English), ARD, TV5 Monde and RAI Uno, as well as the Portuguese channels. A good quality surround sound AV system is hooked up to the TV and you can play CDs and DVDs through it.
I often find it very difficult to get a good night’s sleep when away from home, this was certainly not the case here, it was a joy to be able to fall asleep on a comfortable bed and not worry about waking up in the middle of the night with back pain brought on by a substandard mattress.
If you like swimming I would recommend Canico just a few kilometres drive away, the water was 19 degrees in March and crystal clear.
Car hire is a great option, but be aware that Satnav road mapping is not available for Madeira at present. Navigating the island however is simple and the main roads are very well signposted. It takes only a couple of minutes to get to the apartment after leaving the quiet motorway that links the city to the airport. It’s not easy to get a good map of Funchal but it’s hard to get lost. Be prepared for the steep inclines on the island, I was amazed how many times I had to drop down to first gear.
If you’re not driving getting into town is simple as there’s a bus stop only a hundred metres from the apartment, alternatively taxis are abundant all the time.
This is one of the best apartments I have ever stayed in, the location was perfect – great view, easy access to town and country. Comfortable, stylish modern and clean, the pictures on the website are very accurate. Top class all around.
Madeira is incredibly beautiful and the people are genuinely friendly I look forward to going again.

Stunning Apartment in Great Location

Had a wonderful 2 weeks at Murteiras Apartment. Views from balcony were spectacular especially at sunset. Apartment very clean and fully equipped. Beds were comfortable as were the sofas.
Description on website was accurate.
The apartment was well located for the local bus stop and there was a bakery and cafe/supermarket within easy walking distance.
Sergio and Isabelle were very pleasant and provided lots of information about the island and places to visit. They made us feel very welcome and couldn't have been more helpful.
All in all, we would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this apartment to friends or family. We are hoping to visit again in the near future.

A great apartment with an amazing view of Funchal

Just returned from a fantastic stay in this apartment. The view of the fireworks from the balcony on New Year's Eve was spectacular. Watching the sunsets from the hammock is another view I could never tire of! A very clean and comfortable apartment with everything we needed and we soon felt at home. The bus service was reliable and got us up and down into town easily from the nearby stop. Looking forward to going back in the Spring. Thanks, Nuno.

We had 8 perfect holidays in Funchal. The apartment of Nuno Galiza is very well equipped and furnished very stylefull. It has a beautiful view over Funchal and its harbour and it is a pleasure to sit on the balcony in the night with a glas of red wine and enjoy the view.
It is a good base to explore Madeira, also by bus (stops nearby).

We stayed 10 days in this apartment and had a great time. The apartment has got a very nice view over Funchal and it's harbour and is very well equiped.
From here you can reach the whole island perfectly.
I would recommend this apartment to everyone who wants to go to Madeira. It's perfect for a group of 4 persons.

We stayed at Murteiras Apartment in May 2008 for 8 days and we assume that there are a lot of things which made the time perfect:
a great location in Funchal, best view to harbour and town (really like on the photos) we stayed most evening on the balcony because the view was a lot better than in each location in Funchal itself.
The location is very quite so that you can sleep with open windows.
The apartment itself was perfectly furnished with all equipment and even all of the kitchen things you need for cooking. And it was very clean. Even our 3 year old son felt pretty well.
We are sure we will come back and tell all friends.

We stayed in this apartment during November of 2006 and it was one of our best holidays ever. The apartment feels like somebody's home and is extremely well equipped. We wanted for nothing! I like to cook when on holiday, especially with access to such a great produce market as the one in Funchal, and the kitchen made this easy with every facility and utensil needed. Having a washing maching was great too as it allowed us to pack fairly lightly.
We spent our days walking on the levadas and our evenings sipping wine on the balcony and looking at the fabulous views.

Mr Galiza,s apartment in Muteiras is extremely comfortable, well equipped and appointed and very much a home from home.
It is spotlessly clean, very well furnished to a high standard and affords an excellent base from which to explore this most beautiful of islands.
Everything went like clockwork when we arrived.
We were met at the airport by Sergio who drove us to the apartment and Suzanna who showed us round were most welcoming and helpful. A pleasure to meet them.
The view from the main rooms and balcony is truly amazing ! Difficult to stop looking at it. My wife and I enjoyed our stay enormously and we will definitely be back. I have recommended the apartment unreservedly to many friends and colleagues.
We shall certainly come again as we want to explore beautiful Madeira in more detail. One week is nowhere near enough.

Madeira's Gem - The Murteiras' Apartment

I am a Public Relations Professional that without hesitation would highly recommend the Murteiras' Apartment. My family and I when vacationing love to be immersed in the culture of a country. The Murteiras' Apartment allows you to experience the cultural flavor of Madeira without forsaking the comforts of your own home. This apartment is extremely clean and well-maintained. The balcony view of Funchal is spectacular! It is so spectacular that my family and I are returning to the apartment for New Year's Eve 2009 - 2010 to see, according to the Guinness World Book of Records, the largest fireworks display in the world. Our visit, July 2007, was also made special by the superb customer service of the owner Nuno. He is always eager to please his apartment guests. I was impressed by his exemplary organizational skills. The apartment's details of brochures and pamphlets highlighting Madeira Island and the apartment were greatly appreciated. Indeed, Madeira's Gem is the Murteiras' Apartment!
