Wonderful holiday in Puglia

Review Submitted: May 22, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2007
A great villa and location for a holiday with my wife and our two daughters (15 and 18). Just a short walk/cycle from a sandy beach with a small café which also rented umbrellas and sunbeds. Went to the local beach most days. Did a few day trips to parts of the coast further a field, explored Lecce, Otranto and Gallipoli on beautiful late afternoons/evenings, and visited the trulli region. Lots of fresh vegetables and fruit and plenty of good places to eat out including Masseria Pisciani with its special multi-course anti pasta. Mainly a holiday location for Italians but we were made very welcome wherever we went. I would highly recommend the property.

Review of Villa Sun

Review Submitted: August 30, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
A lovely villa perfectly situated a few minutes' walk from a nice, clean, mostly sandy beach. The accommodation was well looked after, clean and beautifully decorated. It also has air conditioning which is definitely a plus at the height of Summer and an outdoor shower for getting rid of sand after a day of the beach! We were warmly greeted and made to feel very welcome. There was a file containing extremely well-written and helpful details of anything from local beaches, places to visit, to local restaurants and tips on opening times and useful Italian vocabulary. We spent a lot of time at the beach with our three teenagers, but also visited Lecce and Otranto as well as smaller local villages. The bakers and butchers in the next village had superbly fresh and delicious food.

We would definitely recommend this lovely property to friends.

Chilled Out in Casalabate

The Six Blackpool
Review Submitted: July 4, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
What a great place to chill out and soak up some sun. Six adults (3 couples) stayed at Villa Sun for a week at the end of May. The weather was hot and sunny, the location was rural away from all the hustle and bustle, the villa itself was excellent.

We arrived at the villa Saturday evening and were welcomed by the owners - Richard and Noirin, who explained the basics, you know hot water, showers, cooking facilities, local market, etc. We were provided with a welcome basket containing the basics to start us off in the right direction.

The villa itself is well appointed with two large bedrooms and a smaller bedroom containing two bunks, a shower/bathroom, kitchen/dining area and plenty of room to relax inside once the sun sets. A good selection of DVD's and games are available if you need them, we didn't. Six sun beds are provided for chilling out purposes.

Sunday - down to the local market in Casalabate to get provisions for a few days. Fresh vegetables, fruit and fish available, the local market provides high quality cooked meats, breads and other important general provisions, e.g. wine and beer - much cheaper than the UK. We spent the rest of the day chilling in the sun with a plentiful supply of food and drink.

Monday to Friday - see Sunday except on somedays we visited a bigger supermarket in Lecce.

If you want a holiday away from the rest of the world - no internet, no phones, few people then this is the place for you. All you need is a car and some basic Italian to get those provisions from the market.

Thanks for a great stay at Villa Sun

Review Submitted: September 18, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We had such a comfortable and enjoyable holiday at Villa Sun. The location is wonderful, with a sandy beach at the end of the road and lots of great places to visit a just short drive away. And all the care and attention to detail in things like the welcome pack (being able to feed the children after a long journey!) and staying in such a well-equipped house made it a really special and relaxing stay. We stayed with our two boys (7 and 4) - house and garden were perfect for them, and as easy as being at home (the sea breeze and air-con in the house meant even in late August it never felt too hot), and they now think we should move there!

Good base for exploring Puglia-very helpful owners

Review Submitted: July 22, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
We had a great time staying at Villa Sun and would highly recommend it. We enjoyed the quiet location, the well-maintained villa and the helpful, friendly owners who put in a great deal of effort to ensure that our stay was a happy one. We liked the fact that the villa is well placed to explore some of the gorgeous towns and coastline to both the north and the south. We liked the laid back feel of the local beach and the friendly, family-orientated atmosphere there and in the local town. We loved the food hamper which welcomed us when we arrived and we found the information pack compiled by the owners to be very helpful. The only down sides we found were: rubbish on the beaches (all over Puglia - very disappointing) and the neighbourhood where the villa is situated is a bit shabby (rubbish, vacant lots in poor state) however these were only minor complaints - and they certainly wouldn't put us off returning to the area and staying in Villa Sun again.

Seven beautiful days

Review Submitted: June 15, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We chose the Sun Villa because of its central location for touring Puglia, and the five minute walk to the Adriatic. Every day we drove to a different city or area and it worked out very well. The house was perfectly maintained, clean, charming and comfortable. The gardens were lovely and we enjoyed eating meals in the beautiful garden. Debbie and Bob were always there when we needed them. It was very quiet off season, we went the third week of May, and it is a very pastoral setting. We went running and walking and exploring nature. It is not that convenient at night if we were tired from driving in the day and didn't feel like taking another drive at night. However, the roads are good and it is definitely possible to drive to Lecce for dinner. I don't know what the amenities are like in the area on season, but it is very quiet in May, so I would consider that if you want to come off season. During the week we visited Otranto, Ostuni, Gallopoli, Lecce and took a long drive all way to the tip of the heal of the boot. We stopped at Caesare Termini and went into the bathhouse for a treatment, then drove south to S. Lucia at the very tip. The scenery was spectacular.
One week was not enough to see everything and Puglia is a beautiful and interesting area.
The house is wonderful, excellent for families and as a base for sightseeing. The beach was ok, we walked along it, very scenic , but I don't know what it is like in the summer.
We drove through Casalabate on a Sunday, and the market was there, and we bought a lot of produce, cheese and salami. They had everything. I recommend it, for fresh produce and a colorful atmosphere. .

Villa Sun Beach

HeidiF UK
Review Submitted: February 6, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2007
This beautiful villa is a home from home, very well equipped, clean & comfortable. Large living area and 3 good sized bedrooms. Lots of fruit trees in the garden and a large bbq with outdoor eating. There is also a roof terrace but it was too hot up there for us. The owners were onhand to help with any questions but never intrusive.
The only thing it is lacking is a swimming pool but there is a fabulous sandy beach 2 mins drive/5 mins walk away. The beach was never crowded, the sea always warm and the locals very friendly. About 1km away is a small parade of shops & cafes with restaurant Bar Benny. 5km away is a village with more shops & restaurants. And of course the beautiful city of Lecce 30 mins drive.
I would highly recommend this property if you are looking for a holiday to the real Italy, where the Italians go on holiday. Car hire essential but the roads are good and usually empty.

Owner's Response: July and August can be very hot! If you prefer slightly cooler temperatures consider visiting Puglia in April/May or September/October.

Villa Sun

FilipeMM Porto, Portugal
Review Submitted: February 6, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2007
Strong points:
- good furniture
- owners very friendly (great welcome basket)
- 4 bikes
- nice garden (including fruit trees)

To be improved:
- no satellite TV and bad aerial reception
- no internet

It's close to the beach but the beach itself could have been cleaner.

Owner's Response: We plan to add satellite TV later but in the meantime we do provide a selection of DVDs and make our full DVD library available on request.

There are a number of internet cafes in San Pietro Vernotico and Lecce; our own wireless internet satellite connection can be used on request.
