Holiday in Lucca. Our sweet retreat

Lou & J Netherlands
Review Submitted: September 3, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
Lucca is a true jewel in Tuscany's crown, and, what's more, very few people seem to know about it. This means that while the queue for Firenze's Duomo is already 3 hours long at 9.30, Lucca's streets are almost deserted by that time of day. After a few days, the neighborhood baker knows you by name (almost).
Deemed "worth the journey" by the Green Michelin, this city has no Michelangelos, no Tintorettos or other masterpieces. Instead, it offers one of the most unspoilt 15-17th century cityscapes in Tuscany; tourist buses and their occupants are blissfully absent.
In the middle of this, adjacent to the main shopping street, is I PICCIONI, where we spent 10 happy days before and after Easter 2009. Its location, its front and back views, and excellent amenities - 1 1/2 baths, wonderful kitchen, spaceful bedrooms and tastfully appointed living room - makes I PICCIONI a wonderful, relaxed base of operations in one of the quieter corners of Tuscany (with Pisa a 20-minute drive, and Firenze just 35 minutes away).
Highly recommended, not in the least because of the excellent and thoughtful service by the owners. They paid great attention to all our needs in a very professional and caring way. Thank you friends!

My husband and I rented this flat during our recent travel around Tuscany and we loved it. Traveling to and from the major sights was easy, it just required no longer than5 miutes of walking to get to the bus stop, train station and the great monuments. The flat is exactly as you see on the pictures, only it's more charming in reality. Graziano, the owner, is a wonderful resource and is a fountain of information and answered all of our questions proir to arrival. He even left a bottle of wine and a snack for us. The flat is extremely clean and well appointed with everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. The wireless internet connection was a great bonus! The small grocery around the corner was convenient and we found an excellent restaurant 'Canuleia' nearby.
The flat was a welcoming, comfortable oasis for us after long days of sight seeing. The owner even provides a wealth of well organized tourist information in the flat, which was very helpful to us.

Lovely stay in Lucca

I had a truly wonderful experience staying at the apt. Piccioni in Lucca.I was there for 16 days. Some of the time I had friends visiting and for about 8-9 days I was alone.I felt very secure when alone. Graziano was very accurate in his description of the apt. He was very helpful and always available. The apartment is fully equipped with anything you may need, incredible is the feeling of care the owners paied to the apartment. I booked the apt.on the internet from UK. It was with pleasure to discover how accurate were the pictures and description of the Piccioni. The restaurants were delightful and everything within walking distance and convenient. My niece's engagement was celebrated in the apartment and then at a near-by restaurant.I cannot say enough how wonderful my stay was.The restoration of the building and apt.were done to perfection.I live in an historic area in London and recognize how well done the restoration was.My age is 69 years but the apt. was perfect for other ages. We walk everywhere in my neighborhood. A car is not necessary in Lucca either. Trains and buses are close by and convenient. I hope everyone will enjoy.

Missing the Pigeons so much

This is a fabulous apartment and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is equipped with everything one could possibly need, and we entertained friends and family here with ease. The apartment is air conidtioned and that was great. The additional laundry room was a real asset and although the outside space is small it was delightful for our dinners with view over the towers and the countryside of Lucca. The apartment lies close to two Music schools and we often heard the sounds of practicing coming floating up in the evening. It is central for everything and close to traditional home made pasta shops and bakeries which are less than a minute walking. Graziano is a fantastic host and we can't praise him highly enough.
If you ever need a reference for anyone looking to rent that apartment or to rent through you, please use our names.

Lucca Apartment

The owner of this property has carefully added many wonderful details and amenities to the apartment. He is a gracious host and provides wonderful maps and resources to help you enjoy your stay. The apartment is furnished with beautiful appliances and the bedding is very nice. It is a comfortable well lit apartment within a 5 minute walk to the walled city of Lucca. The apartment itself is on the top floor (three flights of stairs) of a residential building on a primarily business street. Wonderful coffee and bakeries are half a block from the front door. The bathrooms and kitchen are modern and we appreciated the well equipped laundry room. One of the bedrooms has a very low slanted ceiling which bothered one of our group but the others not at all.We particularly enjoyed the large kitchen for group planning of the next days itinerary. A great central location to visit so many areas of Tuscany.

Wohnung toll, Rest verbesserungswürdig

Review Submitted: September 2, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
