Le Plan De Noyer

Following our one week stay in April, we returned to see if it was as good as we thought. Wrong!!! It was better!!
This time for two weeks we were accompanied by daughter and partner. Four adults and always ample room in all areas proving that the gite is extremely spacious. We found it, again, impeccably clean with everything exactly as described in the web sites.
The gite is part of a 200 yr. old farmhouse and is all that one thinks about with the word "Provence". It ia not a Canary Wharf Apartment! So, Lisa, please do not modernise anything as this would ruin the ambience.
Both bedrooms are very roomy with Swedish comfort beds.
The kitchen is true Provence with everything needed for all meals. Walk directly out onto the large patio for al fresco dining / BBQ with enough room to choose sun or shade as required.
Bathroom again Provencial but with new shower area - par excellence - with plentiful supply of hot water.
A short walk round to the south side reaches the stunning pool area, with views across flowers/shrubs/vines and olives to the nearby forests. The view is worth the stay alone. At this side of the property are the genial hosts, Lisa and Jan, who are ever ready to advise/help - and offer some of Jan's own rose wine. Also meet the friendliest of dogs - Callas and Carmen - to make the perfect convivial atmosphere.
If there is a fault with the gite and the provisions, then we could not find it!
Take a 5 min. drive / 20 min. stroll to Flayosc - a truly living village unspoilt by tourism. There are ample bars and resaurants and all shops for vast majority of requirments. Try dining at Cafe Du Midi / Vezzo D'Oglio / L'Ousteau / Cafe Meilse - all excellent.
Flayosc is deally situated for touring ... Gorge Du Verdon / Lac St. Crois / Moustiere / Tourtour / Villecruze(+ caves) are all "must see" as is the Riviera - St. Maxime and boat trrip to St. Tropez. All are easilly reached through superb scenery.
Then the markets - every day! Best are Aups, Salernes and Lorgues. So much to do / so little time!
Finally, take the 30 min. drive up the Gorge du Chateaudouble and dine on the terrace of the Restaurant La Tour at Chateaudouble. Superb food and view down the gorge.
Cannot praise the gite and Flayosc enough...
Think "Provence" = Think "Le Plan de Noyer"

We really enjoyed our week at Plan de Noyer and very much appreciated the welcome we received from Jan and Lisa, not just their wine (which was excellent!), but the kindness to our young (and to be fair, very loud children).
The farmhouse is beautiful, but obviously old and although beautifully renovated, one could imagine that some people might prefer a few more creature comforts/luxuries. However, there is a plentiful hot water supply, a well equipped kitchen and comfortable bedrooms and of course the pretty grounds and pool which we loved. It was also spotlessly clean throughout, a rare but welcome find in holiday rentals we have found.

It was no-ones fault that the temperatures were exceedingly high and perhaps more than a fair skinned english family could well cope with in August, but we will definately be back for some more Swedish/Provencal hospitality in the cooler months, school holidays allowing for now!

Thank you to you both (and Carmen who was much loved by the children) for a memorable holiday.

PS. We found that Flayosc had some excellent restaurants, including the child friendly Les Miracles. The Gorge de Verdon is a must and Seillans for the pottery which was very difficult to resist.

Lovely setting, lovely weather and lovely hosts - their hospitality was brilliant. Lots of advice about where to go and lots of things to do in the area or a bit further afield if don't mind travelling. Especially would recommend the Gorge de Verdon which was fantastic and a trip to St Tropez by boat - a place we would love to visit again out of season.

The property and hospitality was a taste of real france and highly recommended.

Thank you all for a wonderful time

The property is clean and spacious.

The kitchen is well equipped in terms of crockery, cutlery and utensils. However, it is in need of a general modernisation, with the cooker overdue for replacement, and although the fridge looks new, it is rather small - just about manageable for a party of two, but could be a problem where there is full occupancy. Instant hot water is a good point.

The master bedroom is generous in size with a large wardrobe and extremely comfortable bed. It has a lovely view over the vineyard and countryside beyond. The second bedroom is also quite roomy with a good selection of books.

The fully-tiled bathroom is pleasant, with a very efficient shower.

Although the swimming pool is very attractive, we were disappointed to find that it is not self-contained within the guest area, but on the opposite side of the building where the owners have their living quarters.

The general location of the property is good, and is very peaceful. A number of local villages are well worth a visit, being both attractive and unspoilt. The Sunday market in Salernes is a must (thanks to the owner for recommending this!). The Gorge de Verdon is absolutely spectacular, and The Abbaye de Thoronet is well worth a visit.

Particularly recommended restaurants are "L'Oustaou", "La Fleur de Thym" and "Le Bouddha de Jade" in Flayosc, and "Le Relais de la Belle Epoque" in Salernes, although there would be no complaints about any of the eating establishments visited during the stay.

Finally, it should be said that the owners are most charming, helpful and attentive - not forgetting their two lovable dogs! Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay.
Owner's Response: Dear Future Renter,
Since 2003 we've had five very dry years and after last spring's heavy rain fall there are a few new cracks on the outer wall of the kitchen, These will be repaired and all kitchen walls will be repainted.
The cooker is lovely old, very efficient, gaz cooker which is appreicated by most rental guests. The fridge was an emergency buy by our dog-sitter last July, when the old much larger fridge broke down. The old fridge has now been repaired and is back in place. The patio will have a new table for next summer but the six plastic chairs will remain as they're of high quality and very comfortable. The solar heated swimming pool (4x 8), which is located on the other side of the house, is entirely for the private use of our rental guests. However, the owners may go for a quick swim when the weather very hot.
Welcome to Plan de Noyer!
