Terrific Great Tangly Manor!

We recently had the pleasure of spending a weekend at this amazing property - it was perfect! We were 10 friends that decided to go somewhere special and our choice could not have been better.

We loved the gardens, the moat, and every inch of the fabulous house. The kitchen and dining room is well equipped and perfect for entertaining.

The property manager provided superb customer service - every question answered and all our needs catered for.

I would recommend this very reasonably priced property as a fantastic getaway for anyone, and I cant wait to go there myself again.
Owner's Response: A fantastic group, we look forward to welcoming you all in the future.

What a fantastic surprise Tangley Manor was - very special yet welcoming and comfortable for all of the family. Nicho ensured we had everything we needed and although we were just 1 family treating ourselves, the setting, location and level of service would be perfect for larger family reunions or celebratory house parties. Our only regret is we were only there for 5 days!

Girls weekend October 2009

Review Submitted: October 19, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We heard about Great Tangley from an enthusiastic previous visitor and thus had extremely high expectations. I’m pleased to confirm that these were more than met by the quality of the venue and the excellent service.

Being able to have the food for the weekend delivered in advance was fantastic. How wonderful to arrive at the Manor on Friday evening to discover our online delivery had arrived safely, been unpacked for us and the wine was already chilled.

The quality of the furnishings especially the bathrooms far exceeds what you can see from the website.

We enjoyed walking into the Surrey hills from the venue and not having to use our cars for the entire weekend.

The highlight of my weekend was getting to Tangley early so I was able to show the others around. I loved the amazement on their faces as they saw the fabulous bedrooms and bathrooms or the grand dining room. No one guessed where the TV was hidden and it was with great glee I revealed the location.

It is a breath-taking venue for an unforgettable weekend with friends or family. I’m already planning my next stay. Just don’t forget your camera – no one will believe your tales of oak panels, Tudor windows, marble baths, moats and walled gardens without photographic proof!

We recently stayed at Great Tangley to celebrate a friends forthcoming marriage. A truly wonderful place, I must stress that the website pictures really doesn't do it justice, we were all amazed at how beautiful the house and grounds were, everyone of us loved it. Beautifully presented, it offered us everything we needed for a weekend getaway for 15 people. It has barbeque facilities, use of an indoor pool (which was fabulous!), wonderful Victorian Gardens to walk in. We took full advantage of the beautiful oak dining room - if you want to cater yourself everything is available, I believe one can arrange for caterers to come to the property, which I think is a brilliant idea. A very relaxing and fun time was had by all. Thoroughly recommend Great Tangley, our contact, Nicho, couldn't have been more helpful, any query large or small, he was able to answer for us. Our thanks to Nicho, Glyn and Anne for a wonderful stay. Thank you, we shall be back!!

A Real Tangley Treat

Tangley Manor is a fabulous venue for you wether it be for a quiet retreat or an amazing Party venue as I used it for as a group of 10. The rooms are beautiful and the whole Manor is spotless I couldnt fault it. I stayed at Tangley for a 3 day weekend, the first evening we had a BBQ party in the courtyard, noise isnt really a problem we had the music quite loud and from outside of the house you could'nt hear a thing. The well equiped kitchen and Giant gas BBQ were more than addiquate and simple to use. The second day we made use of the pool facilities - warm and clean and indoors so our famous english weather wont dampen your fun.Later that night we had a Murder Mystery Night in the Sumptiuous Dining room fit for a Queen using a caterer Nicho sugested at a very reasonable price and the food was Lovely. Sunday we made a roast using the great kitchen again and in the evening hired sumo suits and a mat wich we set up in the corner of the garden. The Manager Nicho is very accomodating and helpful as are the owners. I cant stress enough that the website dosnt do the Manor and grounds justice it really is beautiful and a pleasure to explore. Every room has so much character and the gardens are magical. The surrounding area has lots of countryside and the main town is a short car ride away if you need to stock up on supplies. We are already planning our next weekend at tangley. Thankyou to Nicho especially for all his help.

As a party of 15 friends we stayed at Great Tangley Manor for a weekend in March 09. We were blessed with glorious weather, which gave us the opportunity to appreciate the spectacular grounds.
Tangley Manor is a truly magnificent house, that allows you to be transported back in time to the days of grandeur and opulence (a cocktail dress for dinner would not be out of place)
A beautiful peaceful place, which offered us a retreat to relax, party and enjoy.
My constructive criticism would be, the use of the two further bedrooms. This did cater for our larger party, but the rooms were some distance from the main house and you had to walk through one to access the other (this may present a problem to corporate users, or friends who like more privacy.) We had great weather, so a night time stroll to return to these rooms was fine, but in the wet may not be so pleasant.
Use of the pool would have been lovely, but was an additional extra that we felt was over priced for very restricted use.
Guilford was only a short drive or taxi ride away, and offered great shopping and a variety of restaurants (I would recommend larger parties book to eat in town as it was very busy.)
We tried The Seahorse pub near Shalford, which was beautifully furnished 'gatsro' style pub and well worth a visit. We didn't feel any of the local amenities were within an easy walk, but the local taxi service (in the house info pack) were prompt and efficient.
Nicho, the manager was friendly and helpful, catering with my many calls prior to attending with patience and useful information. We used the Ocado shopping service and arrived to a fridge and cupboards full of food and drinks.
Overall the weekend was an overwhelming success and we had a fantastic time. We would not hesitate to return, either as another group or with family for a special occasion. The web site is only a hint of the delights this historic house has to offer.

A fantastic venue for a relaxing weekend

Review Submitted: March 26, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
We had a fantastic weekend at Tangley Manor and it was a great venue for relaxing with a group of friends. The house had so much character and there was plenty of room for the 12 of us (6 adults and 6 children).

The property is well maintained and was also very clean throughout. The kitchen is well equipped and the coffee maker was appreciated - especially first thing in the morning! The bedrooms were amazing, each one was unique and the beds were very comfortable.

The website provides an accurate description of the house and facilities, but it really doesn't do justice to what a fantastic place it is.

A hidden gem

Booking a weekend away for a large group of friends is no easy task. First, finding a venue for 14 adults and a small child within an hour of London. Then ensuring it caters for everyone's exacting tastes, but within budget. Finally, seeking out that elusive character that makes for a truly memorable weekend. Thankfully, I knew of just such a place.
Having stayed at Great Tangley before, I was looking for an excuse to come back. I am pleased to say that second time round, it did not disappoint. It is a beautiful building, steeped in history, set in magnificent grounds and nestling on the edge of the Surrey Downs, with the requisite number of cosy country pubs in striking distance. The accommodation is immaculate and equipped with an excellent kitchen, perfect for catering for large groups, and a suitably regal dining room in which to savour the fruits of your labours. It is ideal for larger groups of ten or more, as there is plenty of room and ample diversions for a weekend at a lesuirely pace. Seek out the signatures of kings etched on the windows, wander the walking routes that criss-cross the Downs on the doorstep, curl up in a comfy armchair in the Arts and Crafts sitting room, feed the fish in the courtyard pond, and marvel at the most outlandish listed bathroom you will have ever had occassion to witness. If I had to name any drawbacks, they would be the walk to the owners' wing for those staying in the additional bedrooms (those of a nervous disposition should not entertain ghost stories before bedtime) and the need for cars to get around, but then, you can't have rural idyll without some compromise. I am pleased to say that our group had a great time, revelling in the chance to get away from it all and enjoying the opportunity to relax and catch up in such unique surroundings. Oh, and thanks to the owners and their property manager for their cheerful and helpful service, and for allowing the public access to this hidden gem.

Tangley Manor - Great!

AndyM London, UK
Review Submitted: February 3, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
Exactly as described on their web site, the property is a delightful mix of historic manor with modern additions, set in secluded gardens. The quirky and historic nature of the main building certainly give it the edge over previous weekend rentals. It is furnished to a very high standard throughout.

The (modern) kitchen is particularly well equipped and has a large range-style cooker to facilitate a larger group. The striking all-glass extension gives a great place to congregate, overlooking the central courtyard.

Ours was a short stay with a group of friends to celebrate birthdays. We had a fabulous time and didn't feel at all impeded by the owners living next door. The owners were at all times helpful and welcoming.

The area is particularly well served with good restaurants and hostelries and is within easy reach of beautiful North Downs countryside walks. Own transport is pretty much essential, but there is ample parking.

Our stay was thoroughly enjoyed by our entire group. Highly recommended!
Owner's Response: A Suprise 30th birthday celebration. Andy's wife was very pleasantly suprised. We look forward to welcoming the group back for future events.
