Two weeks at Ria Formosa over Easter 2009

Darvon Preston, England
Review Submitted: May 17, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
I simply cannot praise the owners and the property enough. We found the house by surfing the internet and it appeared to be exactly what we were looking for. On arrival we realised that what we had read and seen on the photographs did not do the property justice. You cannot get a feeling for the beauty and peacefulness without actually being there. The owners live in half of the house, whilst the other half is the rental. They are extremely friendly and helpful, but at the same time it really does feel like you have the place to yourself. The garden is lovely and you can sit on the upstairs terrace and take in the beautiful views over the Ria. We like to visit unspoilt/non- touristy places but we do have an 8 year old daughter who wants more than the peace and tranquility that is offered in the immediate vicinity of the house. She is a fairly well-travelled 8 year old and this holiday rated as one of her best. There is swimming in the lagoons just a short walk away, fantastic beaches within 10 minutes drive and the lovely towns of Olhau (where you can take cheap boat trips to the sandy islands) and Tavira are only 15-20 minutes away. The more typically touristy areas west of Faro are easily reached - we went to Zoomarine in Albufeira and it took about 40 minutes. You can be up in the hills around Monchique in an hour and there are lots of lovely villages to explore just inland from the house. We also drove to the beautiful city of Seville which is only 2 hours away. The highlight though was swmming under the waterfall at the Devil's Pond (Pego do Inferno) near Tavira - absolutely stunning. This is a fantastic place to stay if you don't want to go very far and just laze around the property, have a swim, visit the beaches, walk or cycle around the lagoons, see the water fowl etc. But there's plenty more as well if you want to get out and about. You do need a car to get around but the property is very well situated near the main road that runs along the coast. However, when you are at the house you wouldn't know you were anywhere near a main road. The best of both worlds! This is without doubt one of the best properties we have stayed in. Perfectly clean, well-maintained and great customer service both prior to and during our holiday. Would I recommend it to a friend? I already have, many times!

Hoopoe rental - March

Dreamcatcher United Kingdom
Review Submitted: April 29, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
A really good location for those seeking a quiet holiday but only a short distance from a variety of attractions - the Ria Formosa is just a short walk from the house with a lovely walk along the lagoons to Fuzeta and a nice lunch in one of the many restaurants.

The property itself is extremely spacious and well furnished giving a very comfortable home from home. Although the owner was only resident in the main part of the house for a couple of days during our stay, he was both friendly and helpful giving lots of information about the area and the history of the property.

I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.

Casa Del Flor Hoope House Algarve

NorthNorthNorth United Kingdom
Review Submitted: March 28, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
Our family had a lovely two week holiday at Hoope House. Our 1 year old loved the garden especially the large sand pit play area. The house was clean and tidy with everything that we could want. The owners were extremely helpful - even supplying us with a high chair and baby bath! We had a lovely time exploring the Algarve from here and particularly enjoyed the peaceful relaxing location we would definitely recommend this as a relaxing place to unwind on holiday!

Holiday trip

Grethe France
Review Submitted: December 1, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
My mother (83) and myself (51) spend an amazing week at this quiet place near the sea. The situation is quiet, semi rural (there are neighbours, but there is also space between the bouses), in a non-tourist area. It gives the impression of being remote, but is extremely accessible by car. Bigger towns and tourist resorts are within driving distance and very easy to find, once you get the hang of the motorway. Pretty much any kind of family will love this, unless you are into discos (in which case you will have to drive in to one). If you need sun, peace, beauty and adventure, and if you have a love of natural beauty, this is the place to be. Zoomarine is to be highly recommended, and there are loads of historical sites (but check them out beforehand, so you have some idea on what you want to see). Cars can be rented at very reasonable prices.

hoopoe house

tigs wetherby. west yorkshire, england
Review Submitted: August 26, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Our 6 days in August 2008 at Hoopoe House were very enjoyable. The property was very roomy for 2 people as we had a kitchen, bedroom, lounge and bathroom and a balcony with sea views. There is also an extensive pretty garden with a small swimming pool. There was plenty of tables and chairs and other equipment. e.g bbq, hammock, swing etc
Although there was a bed settee in the lounge the property is not really suitable for 4 people as to access the bathroom you have to go through the bedroom.
The property is connnected to Stork House and would be an ideal share by close friends/families. 2 families were sharing this adjacent property and the garden. (the baby in the adjacent house woke us up each morning!)

There were a few small minuses.
1. TV is only in portuguese
2. Satelite TV is only in German.
3. The internet access was very useful even though it was through an applemac and had no sound card .A printer would have been useful.
4. There were lots of bugs and mosquitos.
5. The owner was not in the country so contact at handover and through the week was via the portuguese speaking cleaner/ garden waterer.

While I appreciate that we rented the property in the high season for 6 days I still thought it was expensive and at best average value for money.( We moved from Hoopoe House to a top quality 4 star hotel in Lisbon after our stay and paid about the same amount even though the Lisbon facilities were far superior and included a sumptuous breakfast each day and dinner and drinks on 2 occasions

Owner's Response: Response to some of the issues mentioned:

It is correct that access to the bathroom is though the bedroom; this has never been mentioned as a problem by the families with children staying.

As of September 08, we are living in the property and will be renting only part of it out. This should address language (and baby) issues.

The eMac does have a working sound card (I tested yesterday), but it may have missed some software. The setup was chosen to give basic net access with high reliability, and has done exactly that.

I am not convinced it makes sense to compare August prices in Algarve and Lisbon - it is high season in Algarve, but I think not in Lisbon.

Great stay at Stork House

Anne M. Silvolde, Netherlands
Review Submitted: August 1, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
We stayed .with two families (4 adults, 4 children) at Stork House during our Spring holiday, first week of May 2008.
The house was wonderful, very convenient and complete and absolutely has a "warm" feeling to it. Plenty of space surrounding the house, and the children loved the pool. I would recommend this place to all, and we ourselves are already talking about coming back to Storck house next year. We also especially liked this part of the Algarve, the countryside is beautiful and the coastline is still very much unspoiled by mass tourism. Beautiful beaches too. Sorensen family, many thanks on behalf of all of us!

Natur und Erholung pur!

Review Submitted: May 25, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
