Your own piece of paradise in Barbados!

Linda & Vern Kent, UK
Review Submitted: March 23, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
This is our 2nd visit to this idyllic spot in Barbados. As we found last year, the accommodation is everything as described. If you are thinking about visiting Barbados, we guarantee you will not be disappointed with this accommodation. Added to this, the charming hosts, make you feel very welcome, as do the people of Barbados, wherever you go. You are minutes from all amenities, but at the same time in a peaceful location. We travelled all over on the local transport, which is excellent value and good fun! Fabulous beaches and crystal waters, what more could you want. As you can tell, this holiday rental comes highly recommended!

Paradise Found

This was the perfect place to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Carefully selected from its description, Newstead Cottage lived up to expectation and more. Its facilities and our thoughtful hosts from the welcome jug of cool water on arrival, delicious warm banana teabread and car hire booking made for a thoroughly relaxing and comfortable stay. Sitting on the patio with its beautiful garden vista, watching the wildlife and listening to the whistling frogs while sipping rum on the rocks was heaven!
Perfectly positioned for the stunning Accra beach and boardwalk, restaurants and shopping are just a 5 minutes walk away. Car hire isn't necessary owing to good local bus and taxi services. However, travelling around the island in a jeep to take in some sightseeing proved fun.
Locals literally went out of their way to put us back on track if we got lost and we did once or twice! Speightstown pier is still under construction, the Flower Caves cliffs have amazing views of the coastline. Bathsheba and Bottom (Bounty advert like) Bay are worth a visit. We enjoyed Orchid World, Andromeda Gardens and eating at the Hibiscus Cafe. A visit to Earthworks for Bajan souvenirs/art work and to dine at its cafe with panoramic views is definitely a must.
Can recommend Just Grillin for reasonable fresh fare, Berts Sports Bar, the Italian Coffee House for iced cappucinos and The Black Pearl for an excellent steak and beachside location.
For us it was the opportunity for chilling or 'limin', walking along the beach and boardwalk (and yes it really is like the adverts) passing the time of day with friendly locals but above all having the opportunity to stay and return to Newstead each day that made our holiday so enjoyable. Thank you Susan, Paul, Jamie, Alex and Claire. There would be no hesitation in recommending Newstead to others!

A Very Special Place

Review Submitted: April 7, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
We loved Newstead Cottage, and it really felt as if it was our own for the two weeks we spent in wonderful Barbados. A few minutes walk and there is the most beautiful beach, plenty of places to eat and if you want to go elsewhere there are plenty of cheap buses and friendly taxi drivers. We hired a car for a few days as we wanted to travel around the island and enjoyed the independence that the car gave us but it really isn't essential. The owners of the property totally respect your privacy and are never intrusive but will always be on hand to help with information and practical advice. And so, if like us, you are a couple who prefer not to stay in a hotel, then Newstead Cottage really is the perfect place to stay, Highly Recommended.

Had a wonderful time at this amazing property in Barbados. Susan and Paul were fantastic hosts - providing great support and advice when we needed it and otherwise leaving us to our own devices. Needless to say, very romantic and relaxing! Would have no hesitation recommending this property to anybody looking for a charming, central, and private holiday in Barbados.

Newstead Cottage is an ideal getaway!

Review Submitted: February 3, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
Even though I'd located an affordable airfare, finding a suitable accommodation in Barbados in January remained a typical obstacle for a single traveler. Newstead Cottage saved my life. The apartment is conveniently located within steps of a main transportation road, convenience stores, restaurants and the famous Rockley (aka Accra) Beach (where the new shoreline boardwalk begins). The apartment was cool, spacious, pristine, quiet...and did I mention convenient?...like a dream. I was not at all at a loss for being without a car. The generally flat terrain even made walking a delight. Susan, my host, could not have been more attentive. The ample kitchen made it a fun place to prepare many of my own meals. The free wifi was of particular value to me for communicating effortlessly with editors, clients and family abroad via the internet. For simple inexpensive fare walk over to Just Grillin at the Quayside Centre, or to the Bistrot Monet for a more upscale (but not exorbitant) dinner. Or if you're content to just snatch a bit of fast food, enjoy a chicken and potato roti sandwich at the nearby Chefette (where you may duly note that Barbados is one of the few countries where McDonald's failed). I highly recommend Newstead Cottage for those like myself who enjoy the autonomy of a self-catering retreat and who don't wish to feel dependent upon having a car. I look forward to returning!

Newstead Cottage, Rockley, Barbados

My husband stayed at Newstead Cottage from 2nd - 9th January 2009 and had a wonderful time. It was beautifully decorated, had everything you needed and was in a perfect location close to the beach, the restaurants, supermarket and nightlife. Susan & Paul were very helpful in giving us advice or helping us to book car hire or excursions etc whenever we needed it.

The cottage is about a 5 minute walk to Accra beach which is reportedly one of the best on the island - we loved it and there were also plenty of places in the Qyayside Plaza just opposite to buy anything you needed i.e. lunch, drinks etc etc

We loved our stay at Newstead Cottage and would love to return one day. To sit and read on the veranda in the early evening with the frogs and crickets chirping away was lovely :0)

I would thoroughly recommend to any couples that like to be near the facilities i.e. restaurants etc, but who prefer to be in quiet accommodation - this was perfect for just that.

First time in Barbados !

Chris and Sue Wigan, England
Review Submitted: December 24, 2008 Date of Stay: December 2008
The property is exactly as described and makes for a very comfortable home from home stay in Barbados. We hired a car for a couple of days and toured the island and I can confirm that accra beach is one of the top 3 on the whole island and the best of those 3 for swimming. Plenty of eating places within walking distance and everything you could possibly need is on hand within a few minutes whether by foot or bus/taxi (bus stop at the bottom of the street). And last but not least, the Archer family ( + Claire, the housekeeper) make the perfect hosts. Always on hand to assist in any way yet never intrusive. Absolutely spot on. We loved our first time in Barbados, it certainly will not be our last !

What a find!

Review Submitted: December 18, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
This was our 16th visit to Barbados and we've stayed in AI and other SC accommodation, we were delighted with Newstead Cottage, and were well looked after by Susan and Claire. The cottage has lots of character and all mod cons, nothing was too much trouble - extra chairs for the patio when we needed them, home made Banana Bread which we rationed out carefully as it was so delicious and the place was spotlessly clean. We would not hesitate to recommend the cottage as it is in an ideal location if you do not wish to hire a car. We bought fish from Oistens Fish Market which was the bargain of the holiday Swordfish, Marlin, Tuna and Dolphin all were about BDS$7 a pound. Walk on the pier before you buy your fish and see the turtles. You must visit the races at the Garrison Savannah and a swim at Miami Beach with the locals is not to be missed.
We had a fantastic holiday and as Arnie says 'We'll be back'

A very central location has been found at Newstead cottage by me
The cottage is clean, neat, well maintained, manicured garden comfortable with all the home comforts you could wish for.
Susan and Paul have gone all out to make sure you feel at home from the moment you step in the door.
Even the humming birds know where to come and drink the sweet nectar.
Sitting on the patio with a cooling drink watching the birds is a sight not to be missed only the noise from the tweeting, being able to eat fresh mango's from the tree is a treat. why not watch the sunrise.
Every thing you need is only minutes away, the beach, shops, restaurant's you name it .
Susan and Paul have made a guide so that as soon as you exit the cottage you know exactly where to turn (good idea)
You should make a point to go to the Budda's sports bar and Oistins on Friday nights Accra Beach is the best.
Don'T listen to me go and have this experience for your self and say hi from me I highly recommend this most special place.
there is no need to hire a car as the transport is good so a little more money for that rum punch. I have given this recommendation to friends.
