Avoid this property at all costs
Review Submitted: September 2, 2008
Date of Stay: June 2008
This apartment is advertised as budget which should mean basic but clean. However this apartment is dirty, broken and soiled. Do not stay at this apartment as there are much better apartments in the Tegueste complex (which is excellent) and the surrounding area.
We do have photographs to support our issues but these cannot be loaded onto this review.
A summary of our issues are as follows:
Basement
Damp smell.
No ventillation / or opening window.
Runners on the stairs to the basement were loose and dangerous. (we tripped over the stairs several times when going to the safe)
Middle bedroom
Fist hole in the bedroom door.
The bedroom picture on the website depicts a different scene from that which we found. (There is no mirror and the white cane furniture is dirty, dusty and in the basement) The bedroom photograph is therefore totally misleading.
Middle bathroom
Strong smell of sewage / drains. (We bought several bottles of bleach over the fortnight to combat the smell from the drains)
Broken towelrail
Shower holder loose - unable to support shower head when switched on (fixed by managing agent when we complained)
Kitchen
Dirty washing in the washing machine. (Passed to agent)
Fire extinguisher not serviced since 2006. (Would it be any use if needed?)
Very poor water pressure which meant it took ages to fill the sink to wash dishes or to fill the kettle.
Rusty iron and therefore useless.
Top bedroom -
Bed throw torn.
The bed was like a hamock resulting in poor sleep for the duration of our holiday.
Matress protector stained and disgusting.
Matress badly stained and disgusting.
Sun shades badly torn. (Workers actually turned up to replace the shades during our holiday which was inconvenient. Eventually they left as they had the wrong fittings but only after removing the top bedroom shade leaving us with no canopy cover)
Shutter doors did not lock properly making the house (and our possessions) less secure.
Outside back patio
Sun shades badly torn per above.
Owner's Response: This villa was completely refurbished in early September 2008. New bathrooms were fitted throughout the property and the villa has been transformed from traditional Canarian style to modern and contemporary, with clean lines and a black and white Baroque theme throughout.
In relation to the issues detailed above:
1. The basement does have ventilation, as there is an opening window. However, since the renovation,a wall mounted fan has been fitted as well as a free standing fan.The stairs have been repaired during the refurbishment.
2. New doors have been fitted throughout and the bedroom has been re-designed with the addition of new furniture and fabrics. (See pictures.)
3. The smell that occurred was due to the wrong kind of waste trap being fitted. These also dry out with the temperature and subsequently, there is an occassional smell. Bleach will not cure this! This has been rectified with the installation of 3 new bathrooms being fitted. New bathroom accessories have been fitted throughout.
4. There were a few minor issues with the handling agent, which were due to a management handover. We have since spoke with them and any cleaning issues have been resolved. The water pressure is good at the property. All new taps and showers have been fitted therefore, they are limescale free! This can reduce the flow of water. Due to the high fluoride content, we do recommend that bottled water be used for drinks.
5. A new bed has been installed and all sunshades are fitted to the upper and ground floors. All patio doors close and lock.
All comments are taken seriously with us and subsequently, we have re-designed the villa and rectified any outstanding problems with the property. It is in excellent location and condition and is an ideal choice for families or couples. Please view the pictures and judge for yourself!
