Highly Recommended Holiday

Fishingrod Kingsbridge, Devon, UK
Review Submitted: August 1, 2008 Date of Stay: February 2008
An ideally situated villa being about a mile from the coast (if you take the shortcut down the track opposite the villa), with very well laid out rooms and a lovely garden. The villa and garden are very well maintained having a house 'manager' who lives at the back of the property who is also a superb cook and is very happy to cook real Jamaican food for you if asked. Also the villa has a ‘tied’ taxi driver – Junior. They say local knowledge is everything and this really is a case where that is true. Junior is absolutely lovely and he made the difference between this being a good holiday and being a fantastic holiday. His prices are very fair as well, being considerably cheaper than the other local taxis. He charged about £35-40 for the trip from Montego Bay Airport to the villa whereas the norm is £70.00 or more! Junior knows some lovely beaches and of course the best places to get food / eat. Whilst there we visited the Bob Marley Mausoleum, The Blue Mountains, Kingston, Reggae Beach, James Bond Beach, The Healing Waters – where a flame burns on the water!, Fishing Villages, Waterfalls and Dunns River Falls – where they cascade down into the sea, fantastic! Although some of the locals (like at the market) can be a bit pushy to buy their wares, if you say ‘no’ and mean ‘no’ they accept that and don’t make you feel uncomfortable as they do in some countries. So if you want to go to Jamaica to see Jamaica and share in all it’s wonders I would Highly Recommend this holiday.

We stayed at Almond Tree Villa in July for 3 weeks and enjoyed our stay. The villa is in a very nice and safe residential location in Ochi Rios, not too far from the town. The villa is very spacious, and was able to accommodate our large party of 10 which includes a baby comfortably. Neil the owner was very helpful and answered all our queries before the holiday. Marvin, Rose and Big Pete were very nice and made our stayed more enjoyable, we could rely on them if we needed help with anything. We had a good time and would stay there again and will definitely recommend the villa to Family and friends.

Perfect holiday/honeymoon

Almost Jamaican Preston, England
Review Submitted: July 21, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
This villa was perfect for our needs. It was good to be just outside Ocho Rios as it meant peace and quiet when we wanted it. Although the furniture in the property is a little tired it was well equipped and exactly as described. Would recommend they put a cool box and ice packs in the kitchen though for days out. Marvin, who looks after the house was extremely helpful and a great guy to sit and chat with. Damon the new taxi driver is very reliable and even turned out late at night to help us when our hire car broke down. Would definately be staying there again. Wonderful holiday... Dogs in the yard as with most Jamaican homes, but they are very friendly and well trained. The ceiling fans keep the house cool without the need for air conditioning. Our only complaint would be the tap to the shower in the en-suite bathroom leaks badly. Minor problem though. Neil, the owner was very helpful before our visit and it was so good to find what we needed within our price range. Lots to do in the area and well situated for travelling round the island by hire car. Reggae Beach is beautiful and not spoilt by too many tourists.

Peaceful and relaxing villa in an ideal location

Mark & Suzan Nottingham - Uk
Review Submitted: July 2, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We are from Nottingham Uk and booked Almond Tree villa for our wedding and vacation. myself, partner - mother-in-law and farther-in-law had the pleasure of renting this villa for 2 weeks. We had a wonderful time, as Trubles and Tiny (Dogs) gave us so much! Tiny had 6 chubby healthy pups on the morning of our wedding and Marvin, the house keeper cooked and arranged a beautiful and traditional meal for our evening reception after the wedding. For anyone who wants to see Jamaica and who prefers to hire a car to tour, We would recommend that this is an ideal location to stay. Mark and Suzan.

Ideal Family Accommodation

Review Submitted: April 28, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
Almond Tree Villa is a detached spacious bungalow in an established residential area on the east side of Ocho Rios , approximately on mile inland.
The rooms are comfortably furnished and the kitchen is fully-equipped.
A designated taxi service provides transport to beaches and places of interest, but do agree a fair price in advance.
Marvin is an excellent cook and enjoys producing great authentic meals from akee/ festival/saltfish/ jerk chicken and pork. Good with children and a mine of information.
Te villa is by no means luxurious, but it is clean and comfortable, and is a perfect base from which th explore the area.
Neil the owner is very fair and helpful, and will do everything he can to ensure that you get the most out of your stay.
For us it was an excellent first family holiday to amaica, and we shall definitely return.

I had a great stay

Marvin and Rose and Kelvin are all very nice and helpful. This was my 3rd time going to Jamaica but my first stay in a villa. I really enjoyed my stay and think that staying in a villa is much more economical and a better way to enjoy the real Jamaica. Neil the property owner was very helpful before my travel and after and I would recommend this property to others. I have already told some my friends who frequently travel to Jamaica about Almond Tree.

We stayed at Almond Tree Villa and enjoyed our stay. We arrived to a friendly welcome from Trudy and Marvin. The villa is spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. We used the services of Junior and Calvin and both were helpful and reasonably priced. We enjoyed spending time on the verandah play games supplied by Marvin. Overall, we had a great time and would recommend it to anyone.

Family Vacation

Maria & Kwami Toxteth,Liverpool England
Review Submitted: February 1, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
Having just spent our vacation at Almond Villa i have to say it was a truly pleasurable and memorable stay. I agree with previous occupiers, the villa is delightful and Marvin & Trudy are real nice people. Rose, the housekeeper is an angel and will do anything for you, her cleaning is very thorough. Juniour is great, full of life and knows all the local hot spots, the new driver , Calvin, is very reliable and fair. Its an extremely clean and well maintained villa and Neil (the owner) is extremely helpful and genuine.
The area is lovely and my girls made friends there, i know they are missing the place already, especially 'trouble' the pup! all the staff were fantastic with my children. I have to agree the only thing missing is a pool, but i would definitely go back, thanx everyone for a truly memorable vacation.

Jamaica

Review Submitted: January 10, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
This villa is in a residental area so you feel very safe.
the accomodation is spacious and the bedrooms all a good size with very comfortable beds.
the ceiling fans are a must and provide you with all the air con you need. the furniture is slightly out dated and in need of re upholstering otherwise all good.
having fresh produces on the land was a bonus and the kids enjoyed the fresh coconut water.
Marvin and Trudy are a great couple and made our stay easy, Marvin is an excellent cook and is very patient with children.
did not realize there were dogs on the property but Marvin kept them chained.
Junior is a character in a very positive way, he is funny and has a lot of local knowledge. his fare prices are very reasonable and he is only a phone call away.
if this villa had a pool i would be back on a yearly basis.
Neil the owner is very professional and made it a point to call on our arrival and once we returned.
Overall a very good time had by all and i would return because of the service recieved.
as this place is of the main road you would need a car or Junior to get about.

Our dream holiday

Soursaps Ashford, Kent
Review Submitted: December 12, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
We were met at on arrival at Kingston Airport by 'Junior', the friendly taxi-driver associated with the villa - and the 2-hour journey to Ocho Rios was interesting - including plenty of useful information about the country - and lots to see on the way!

The villa was lovely - it's very spacious, with a well-equipped kitchen (it has a proper gas cooker and microwave oven too), four large bedrooms, two shower/bathrooms, cable TV and good ceiling fans for cooling the warm tropical air!

The villa has enormous charm - it's in a very nice area; we liked the large garden and after a few hours it felt just like home!

While the villa is about a mile from the nearest beach, its an ideal base from which to explore the island...With LOTS of excellent beaches in the area, and many other attractions too - the Bob Marley Mausoleum; Green Grotto Caves; Noel Cowards house 'Firefly, and the famous Dunn's River Falls are all very do-able.

A useful mobile phone is provided, and Junior is always on call - he's usually very prompt & reliable, his taxi is good value - and he's very friendly.

For 'self-catering' there are several supermarkets in the area. If you don't want to cook there are many great value local restaurants.

Tropical fruit & veg are fresh & plentiful, so don't be afraid to try some locally-grown produce.

We visited the fascinating Bob Marley mausoleum. Here the guides give very 'musical' tours while they explain the origin of many of Bob's songs, singing them along the way.

Junior also took us to some wonderful beaches... A few are only accessible via a slightly tricky climb, but there are many where you can drive & park right by the soft coral sand.

Several are very secluded & quiet with picturesque waterfalls, while others - like the popular Reggae Beach - were throbbing with music from sound systems, busy with tourists and local folks, and bustling bars & cafes...

The climb up Dunn's River Falls was exhilarating (if tricky in places), but the guides take you safely through the various rapids and slides, and the feeling of achievement on completing the ascent was (for me) akin to finishing a marathon or conquering Everest!

All in all we would say that Almond Tree Villa is great value, and it's situation - close to so many attractions - is ideal. (We're not into golf, but there are many courses here too.)

William, Debra (& Wesley, 13yrs) .
