Our dream holiday

We were met at on arrival at Kingston Airport by 'Junior', the friendly taxi-driver associated with the villa - and the 2-hour journey to Ocho Rios was interesting - including plenty of useful information about the country - and lots to see on the way!
The villa was lovely - it's very spacious, with a well-equipped kitchen (it has a proper gas cooker and microwave oven too), four large bedrooms, two shower/bathrooms, cable TV and good ceiling fans for cooling the warm tropical air!
The villa has enormous charm - it's in a very nice area; we liked the large garden and after a few hours it felt just like home!
While the villa is about a mile from the nearest beach, its an ideal base from which to explore the island...With LOTS of excellent beaches in the area, and many other attractions too - the Bob Marley Mausoleum; Green Grotto Caves; Noel Cowards house 'Firefly, and the famous Dunn's River Falls are all very do-able.
A useful mobile phone is provided, and Junior is always on call - he's usually very prompt & reliable, his taxi is good value - and he's very friendly.
For 'self-catering' there are several supermarkets in the area. If you don't want to cook there are many great value local restaurants.
Tropical fruit & veg are fresh & plentiful, so don't be afraid to try some locally-grown produce.
We visited the fascinating Bob Marley mausoleum. Here the guides give very 'musical' tours while they explain the origin of many of Bob's songs, singing them along the way.
Junior also took us to some wonderful beaches... A few are only accessible via a slightly tricky climb, but there are many where you can drive & park right by the soft coral sand.
Several are very secluded & quiet with picturesque waterfalls, while others - like the popular Reggae Beach - were throbbing with music from sound systems, busy with tourists and local folks, and bustling bars & cafes...
The climb up Dunn's River Falls was exhilarating (if tricky in places), but the guides take you safely through the various rapids and slides, and the feeling of achievement on completing the ascent was (for me) akin to finishing a marathon or conquering Everest!
All in all we would say that Almond Tree Villa is great value, and it's situation - close to so many attractions - is ideal. (We're not into golf, but there are many courses here too.)
