Great Break

Westy and Maz Kirkcaldy, Fife
Review Submitted: September 28, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Just back from a really relaxing break at the mill. The property itself is in a lovely situation, ideal for touring the local area. To be honest we were so lucky with the weather that we just walked locally most days and relaxed in the garden when we got back. The mill has been converted very tastefully, and has many great touches, which are applicable to the area. Good information left for visitors, with a wealth of good books as well. Appreciated the owner phoning on our first night to make sure everything was o.k. The bird table was great with loads of different birds visiting each day. The owners tip regarding leaving jam sandwiches for the pine marten worked a treat, we saw him twice, but were sadly not able to get a photo of him. Local hotel was good and handy ! Would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone who wa seeking a relaxing break with all the comforts of home. It was exactly as described, and then some !! The description does not fully do the property justice.

House clean, well equipped, comfortable and warm.

Top bunk not recommended for an adult.

Our group would certainly use it again if in the same area.

We love the Mill been staying there for many years. Sometimes for special times like anniverseries or special birthdays, but mostly for our holidays in June/July, Mandy & Kevin are brilliant, making sure everything is ok. There is everything to do you would ever want, fabulous walks, fishing and a great base for sight seeing. Plenty of places to eat out, We would recomend the Calladonian Hotel and the Letterfinly Hotel, not forgetting the local Invergarry Hotel the food is very good. We will be definitely be back

Review Submitted: January 18, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
We as a family stayed at this fabulous mill over new year in 2008-2009.We had a fantatic holiday. The property itself was first class as was the owner of the property. We were given directions which were first class seeing as we had to drive 450 kilometres to get to it.The fire was lit by the house keeper for us arriving and the house was lovely and warm on arrival it was -8 outside when we arrived. We found the walks to the rear of the house brilliant.Myself and the boys fish but we thought it would be game fishing so did not bring the rods.Big mistake there is everything we are gonnae try a week or 2 in summer as fishing and place is too good to miss.We did the gondalas up anach-mor highly recommended. We also went to inverness again highy recommended as is fort william. When we go back in summer ben nevis will be scaled and most of the loughs will be fished for the king of fish PIKE.I would highly recommend this property to anyone thinking of a holiday in highlands YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED.We holiday in florida every year and if the highlands had floridas weather well i reckon that would be our main family holiday.Oh and mandy the owner is polite and very very helpfull an we apreciated the phone call to make sure all was ok on our arrival. The boys loved the log burning fire in sitting room but they enjoyed the walks during the day and cutting and fetching logs(You can buy them locally but my boys loved to gather wood and cut it).Anyway don't just read my review book it for yourself and experience the highlands how it should be experienced!!!!Thank you to mandy and her family for allowing us the priveledge of enjoying your home. All the best for the future and w hope to enjoy it at some stage in the summer!!!!

We had a wonderful weekend and the premises were to the highest standard. The pub had some great meals on offer and only a small walk down the road. The whole time was a great experience.

many thanks

Old Aldernaig Mill

Giant Dunoon, Argyll
Review Submitted: March 19, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2008
I've just returned from my second visit to Old Aldernaig Mill and it was just as enjoyable as the first visit. The Mill has a very homely feel to it and I felt as if I was going home for the weekend. I went with 6 friends and on leaving we all decided that we will go back next year as it's such a lovely place to stay. Better equipped than any other holiday home I've been to and very tastefully done to a high standard. It was spotlessly clean, well-maintained and well located. We walked both days from the Mill, some of the party cycled on the Great Glen cycleway. The mountains were snow-capped and clear, and there are plenty of walks to be had direct from the Mill without taking the car. The sun shone, the birds sang, and being a sheltered spot even in March we were able to sit out with a coffee in the afternoon sun. The description of the property is true to life, but the warmth and atmosphere of the place has to be experienced. The logburning stove made the evenings very cosy. The bedrooms are of good size and the well-equipped kitchen made catering very enjoyable. We had intended to walk along to the hotel in the evening but by then were reluctant to leave the mill, so just stoked up the fire and stayed in.
I would reccommend this property to anyone who wants a quiet, relaxing, comfortable holiday, and am looking forward to my next visit in March 2009 if not sooner.

Charming Cottage in Beautiful Setting

Michigan Visitors Michigan, USA
Review Submitted: February 18, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
My family, including 2 children ages 8 and 9, enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing stay September 2007 at the Old Aldernaig Mill. We enjoyed activities within walking distance, including fishing on the River Garry, hiking in the Caledonian Forest and to nearby lochs, visiting the cultural center, and eating at the local hotel/pub. In addition, we were able to take several day trips. The Mill is very close to Fort Williams, Eileen Donan Castle, Plockton, and Loch Ness. After staying at the Mill for nearly a week, my family hated to leave because many local attractions were left unexplored. We spotted the resident pine martin in the evenings and enjoyed watching birds in the afternoon. The Mill was very clean and the layout provided a comfortable setting for our family of 6. A group of eight could easily stay comfortably. I would definitely recommend the Mill to other family members or friends wanting to spend time in the Highlands.

Having just spent 2 weeks at this wonderful old mill, I certainly wasn't disappointed, the location in the heart of the highlands was perfect and the house was lovely and clean and decorated to a very high standard with everything you need (including a superb wood burning stove which was comforting when the weather was inclement) Loads of activities nearby for the more energetic, wonderful walks. I don't drive but found the local transport adequate I can thoroughly recommend this property.
