Delightful stay in Cascais

Robin and Marj. Blackburn England
Review Submitted: September 9, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
This was a lovely place to stay, near enough to walk to the centre of town and surrounded by superb restaurants.
Maria, the owner, made us feel very welcome in her well maintained clean apartment. The garden was an added bonus for sitting and eating outside
We especially liked the convenience of the train to go into Lisbon,a car is not essential.
We shall definitely be going back next year.
Owner's Response: Dear Robin and Marj.
Thank you so much!
It was great meeting you both and I hope to see you again next year.

Lovely apartment

We stayed for a week in this lovely, spacious apartment. There is a beautiful garden, well equipped kitchen and lovely lounge. The apartment was within walking distance of town, the local beach and the great coastal path. Highly recommended and Maria was helpful and friendly. Thank you.
Owner's Response: Dear Ruth,
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to comment on your stay.
I am so pleased you enjoyed your holidays in our cottage.
All the best,
Maria

Our First trip to Europe!

Ralph & Kathy Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada
Review Submitted: June 23, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Perfect in every way and mostly due to this glorious apartment that exceeded all expectations. It’s on ground level with a beautiful garden. It was a home away from home. Everything was so clean and well equipped; there was nothing we needed that was not provided. A welcome basket was waiting for us and Maria, the owner, was so helpful. She advised us how to get to and from the airport and came over twice to recommend places we may like to visit and where to eat. We went to them all.
Cascais is a beautiful area with access to many beaches, restaurants, a historical museum and cultural centre, parks and churches, all within walking distance plus buses (Buscas) and trains are available.
Estoril is 15-minute walk from downtown Cascais along the amazing boardwalk (or take the train). Lots of bars and beaches along the way. There is a huge Casino there with a wonderful show starting nightly at 11:00. Tuesday is cheapie night when you can take in the show and have dinner for 30 Euro each.
Sentra is a must see and only a short bus ride away. (Catch the bus underneath the Cascais Villa.) We recommend visiting Moors Castle and Pena Palace. Make it a day trip but wear good walking shoes!
Lisboa, oh, Lisboa... so old, so romantic and only 30 minutes by train for under 10 Euro for two (return). We went twice. Take a taxi (cheap) from the train station to Resataurdores Square.
Maria, Roger, thank-you, we can't wait to go back!
Owner's Response: Dear Ralph and Kathy,
Thank you so much for your comments.
You were fantastic and so adventurous!
Hope to see you again.

What a slice of heaven!

This is a great getaway cottage. (OK, it's in a building, but with the private, terrace entrance, you'd never know it.)

It's bright, sunny and feels so welcoming. Lots of open spaces in the apartment, so it feels even bigger.

The bed is so cozy, with the big, fluffy blanket and pillows. Your window opens to the garden, filled with heavenly scents of flowers. In the morning, you can hear the peacocks in the park about a mile away.

Our hosts, Maria and Roger, were amazing. British Airways was kind enough not to transfer our luggage to the Portuguese airline in Heathrow. (Note: Remember NEVER to fly via Heathrow. NEVER!) Maria just took over and made sure our luggage got delivered to her own doorman. So we didn't have to waste the first day of our vacation just waiting for the delivery.

Instead, we were able to walk to sea, the main plaza, see the government buildings, the restaurant plaza, and all kinds of wonderful, beautiful buildings older than the USA. We found the railroad station, too. Really, everything in Cascais is within walking distance of the 'cottage'.

And if you don't want to walk, there's a bus stop handy. The bus will take you all around the town, even to the farmers' market. Just jump off when you see something interesting.

Coming back, we could take a siesta, or spend a romantic evening in the garden.

We loved having a kitchen and being able to prepare some of our own meals. The variety of cheeses and interesting cold cuts aren't quite the same as here in L.A. They're much less processed and taste more like real food than the plasticky stuff we seem to get.

We spent the best week ever. Perfect for a second honeymoon. Or third. Or fourth...or in installments.

You'll love this place!
Owner's Response: Dear Rick and Eva,
It was a pleasure having you both at the cottage. Thank you for your lovely review and kind words.

Apartment at Cascais

Barbara and Jack Co Cork, Ireland
Review Submitted: October 1, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
Maria couldn't have been more helpful - arranged taxi pickup to and from the airport, provided a splendid welcome pack on arrival - home made soup, fruit, wine, the works - and a full run-down on the apartment and the area generally. The apartment was spotless, very well equipped and comfortable, with a lovely private garden and gas barbecue. Lots of up to date tourist information, guide books, maps etc are all provided. The garden was a great addition for days when we didn't feel like too much activity. It's a 15 minute walk into the centre of Cascais, or local bus within 50 metres of apartment. Sea about 250 metres, with boardwalk into town. Cascais itself is a small, pretty town, with good train links to Lisbon, Estoril etc and buses to surrounding villages, eg Sintra. [well worth a visit]. No real need for a car unless travelling further afield. Free bike rental too. Good surfing beach at Guincho, about 5 km away. [bus from beside the apartment]. Cascais has lots of restaurants at all price ranges, good shopping and several interesting museums and galleries, concerts etc. We thoroughly recommend the property and the area for a restful and interesting break - we had two weeks and found plenty to do and see. Maria lives nearby and we found her most helpful but not at all intrusive - if we needed information she was there [ask her about the 'good' local bakery - it's worth the walk] and it was nice to know that assistance was at hand if we needed it. All in all, we had a great holiday and good weather too, which made it all the more enjoyable.
Owner's Response: Thank you Barbara and Jack,
I am so pleased to know that you had such good time.
Kind regards to both.
Maria

Stunningly renovated!

Review Submitted: July 13, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We, just 2, were here for 3 weeks in May '08. The owners were great and let us arrive on the Thursday, not adhering to the Saturday to Saturday norm.
The flat is simply beautiful! Kitchen a dream with everything you could want; bathroom so lovely. Garden was a delight, with a huge BBQ grill. Close to downtown and the sea. Parking at first looked hard, but was quite easy and we never had a problem. Maria was a true sweetie, gave good info - even had up-to-date travel guides for reference!
There is road noise, but the fence keeps you private, and when you close the windows: silence. There's a/c for the hot days, but we didn't need it.
This carefully renovated flat, full of so many thoughtful details, and managed by concerned owners, made our vacation! The photos are not as wonderful as the apartment. Thanks, Maria!
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words.
