From John ...
'THIS WAS A FABULOUS GET-AWAY. MY HOSTS KAROLL AND NICK WERE ABSOLUTELY GREAT! I HAD SOME OF THE BEST ENGLISH MORNING BRUNCHES OF ALL MY TRAVELS. THEY HAD LOADS OF EXCELLENT INFO ON PLACES TO GO. THE SCUBA WAS GREAT AND THE VIEW IS FANTASTIC. THE FISH NICK CAUGHT WERE SOME OF THE BEST TASTING, FRESHEST EVER… MAYBE BECAUSE IT WAS 2 HOURS FRESH. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SECLUDED AND PEACEFUL PLACE.'

'My boyfriend and I stayed at Reef view last October for two weeks. We could not have been made to feel more welcome and comfortable, and enjoyed every aspect of the accomodation and the location. The apartments are both really well equipped, clean and nicely furnished. Our stay at Reef view was relaxing and tranquil and we really loved it!'

Experience the real Antigua

A wonderful apartment on a beautiful island! Located in the small village Urlings, with a fantastic reef view, we couldn't have asked for more. The owner was helpful and made us feel welcome. The village is a few kilometers from the nice, sandy beaches, but it's really easy and very cheap to take the bus wherever you want to go (instead of renting an expensive car).

So, no sandy beaches at the apartment;instead you get to experience the wildlife/sealife by just walking along the shore :-)

Amazing Reef View

Review Submitted: June 27, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Karoll is a great host who knows all the best restaurants (Chappy’s, Sheer and Roti King), beaches (Darkwood Beach) and things to do (English Harbour). On the first day we were greeted with an intoxicating rum punch drink which instantly relaxed us into holiday mode.

My boyfriend and I got engaged whilst in Antigua and Karoll was on hand to pick the perfect restaurant and generously organised a lovely BBQ and a bottle of champagne the next day.

Karoll even managed to get us a personal meeting with two artists whose work we had admired on displayed in the apartments. We were able to buy an original painting from Sallie Harker who signed it with a personal message and which will be a lasting reminder of our engagement and holiday in Antigua.

The apartments are located in a residential area so be prepared for the noise of everyday living. Our apartment was well equipped with every appliance you can imagine. The beaches are not your typical white sand beaches (these are a short bus ride away) but are very peaceful, full of wildlife and a short walk away. We had an amazing time and I'm sure will be back soon!!

Quiet intimate loft style apartment

Owners Nick and Karoll were perfect hosts at this small out of the way 3 unit apartment resort. They were always available if we needed anything, but never infringing on our privacy. Located in a quiet residential area with a great sea view from the loft and only a few hundred yards to a quiet sandy beach. We stayed in the 2 story efficiency loft style apartment which was equipped with all of the utensils for vacation cooking, beach towels, cable TV and even WIFI. We walked to other nearby beaches, local restaurants and markets, but you will need to take a bus (bus stop is nearby) or rent a car to visit other parts of Antigua. Very relaxing place to spend a week . . . or more!

Pretty Charming relaxed chilled out and thats just the Landlady!! Each Apartment is spacious clean and well presented with Panoramic seaviews and sunsets, metres from a deserted beach with a natural reef, on the outskirts of a local village away from the hotel crowds.
Highly recommended, A place to to enjoy the true spirit of the Caribbean.

Great Getaway

My wife and I stayed in the "Jungle Room" (Love Shack) for two weeks in January/February of 2009. The Jungle room is more than a room, it is a small apartment. It reminded us of being on a sailboat, everything you need is close at hand. The view for upstairs was spectacular. When you wake up in the morning, all you see is blue sky and ocean. Karoll and Nick are wonderful hosts. They are full of information about the Island and able to help with directions or suggestions of what to see or where to eat. Cades Beach is very private, we walked the beach, laid in the sun and swam. The only person we saw was the octopus fisherman. If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet holiday away from the crowds, than this is the place to be.

Wonderful Place to Stay

The property description doesn't do it justice, this lovely little set of apartments is where you can go to enjoy the real Antigua. It's comfortable, it's clean, it's well maintained, the owners are on site and extremely helpful and kind. I would never stay anywhere else in Antigua. The price is unbelievable. Karoll knows all the best local places to eat if you don't feel like using your own full kitchen and her advice on the beaches was invaluable. If you miss your dog and cat at home, don't worry there's a few right here who want to be your friend, but they are so well behaved they won't bother you at all if you'd rather not have them. The welcome bbq should not be missed, Karoll and Nick will provide a meal you will really enjoy.

Get Your Island Groove On!

Review Submitted: March 11, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
My wife and I stayed at Reefview for a month and just returned February 19th to Switzerland. We are considering moving to Antigua and our visit was more of an interview of the island.

We had a great time. We now consider both Nick and Karoll to be our friends. We spent time with them, had them to our place for dinner, we even went to a fund raising event with them at the Jolly Harbor Yacht Club and had a blast.

Nick is a kind and gentle man who can arrange any kind of sailing or snorkeling adventure as he is a master yachtsman and certified diver.

Karoll is very outgoing and knowledgeable. She is better than any concierge at a fine hotel, and can give you advice on just about any topic. And she is one hell of a good cook! Her dinners are excellent!

The apartment is nice and airy, with all the comforts of home. Even wireless internet service!

Staying at Reefview Apartments will give you an authentic Antiguan experience, living among the locals, in a secluded, pristine environment. If you are looking for First World amenities and perfectly quiet surroundings, well then the Caribbean is not for you.

Yes, some of the locals can be unfriendly, but so can New Yorkers. Just keep some perspective, and island life will overtake you.

We traveled all over the island by bus. And I mean ALL over the island. Very few vacationers use the bus. Why? I don't know. It is super cheap, and you'll have some of the best experiences, and meet interesting local people.

My wife and I have traveled all over the world. And we always find that if you keep your First World attitude in check, and make the effort to interact with the natives, you'll be treated like a local.

We had locals see us at the bus stop and offer to give us a lift to our apartment. We accepted. And they drove us from Jolly Harbor to Cades Bay.

We had a local taxi driver give us a lift, no charge, when he saw us standing at a bus stop that was no longer part of the bus route.

Another taxi driver took us from Jolly Harbor to Cades Bay on a Saturday night for next to nothing. Why? Because when I asked how much the fare would be I started by saying hi and asking how his night was going. We talked for a minute and then the price was discussed.

Get your island groove on, be cool, act friendly, and make a new friend. And its a small island. People you talk to will see you again and say hi, or help you out.

We are already planning our return to the island.

Hidden Gem

Review Submitted: January 29, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
Inga and I just got done spending 3 weeks there. We had a blast. Great hideaway with semi-private beach. Was close to several great restaurants and beaches. Travel by bus, taxi, or private car from this location is easy. Nick and Karole do a great job. Ask them any tourist related question and the probably know the owners. This is a great place to kick back with a rum and coke or gin and tonic and watch the sunset. It is in a rural area and is pretty much self catered. So if you are an urban dweller who wants to be pampered, this is probably not for you. Otherwise, I couldn't think of a better place to go and blow off a little stress and recover.

Reefview in Cades Bay on Antigua

lost in the woods Florida, USA
Review Submitted: December 30, 2008 Date of Stay: December 2008
We have traveled to several places. We find it an adventure to meet people from different cultures and experience the native areas. We stayed at the penthouse for 2 weeks. Most definitely, one needs a car to explore other parts of the island, however, driving on the left side and the steering wheel on the right side was an adventure in itself. We needed to be very careful of the potholes in the roads so the car rental did not get ruined. We saw mongoose, herons, stingrays, fig, (bananas) and several other birds and fish. The description of the house was accurate regarding the layout and facilities. One does not need AC as there seemed to be breezes most of the time. Things are quite expensive on the island so one might want to bring as many things to use for the stay as possible...hand soap, dish soap, even little shares of food if you are on a tight budget. Waking up to the sounds and calling of chickens, donkeys and dogs might bother some people, but we thought it part of the real Antigua. The house is close to others, however, that shows the native ambience of Antigua. It is near a resort where one can get food. This local community has one of the best places to buy rum in the Caribbean. The property was clean and well cared for by the owners. The owners take pride in keeping things running so visitors need to take care of the place as if it was their own. If one wants to just relax and have a beach all to themselves, this is the place. There is Wifi so if that is your thing, you will need a laptop. The owners were helpful, hard working, friendly, willing to talk about places to visit, and accommodating. One day, we even saw from our porch, Montserrat become active with it's volcano. We visited several beaches and hiked around many areas during the day. Staying at this place limits one for night activities such as dinner except you can eat with the owners for a charge ( quite delicious) or travel at night on the pesky roads to a restaurant. We enjoyed eating ourselves in the apartment some with supplies from Jolly Harbor grocery store. They have very good hamburger, fishburger, chicken burgers for take out. Valley Church Beach is a nice beach and eating at the Nest is a lovely experience. We enjoyed visiting Half Moon Bay, Harmony Hall, Shirley Heights ( a BBQ on Sunday night - local fun),English Harbor, and walking up a newly named Mountain Obama ( #1300 feet). Antigua is a place for relaxing, walking beaches and seeing the local flora and fauna.
