Escape to Madeira after New Year

This apartment is in an excellent position overlooking the harbour at Funchal. It is very convenient, being within walking distance of many restaurants and on the bus route into the centre of Funchal. As my husband has walking difficulties, the apartment was very suitable as there was a lift to the fifth floor and no stairs within the apartment. Supermarkets, Car Hire and Bakery on the ground floor of the apartment block but for more reasonably priced food go to the Hypermarket at Madeira Forum - 4 bus-stops away. Swimming pool very cold - not recommended in January! Overall, we had a super break and all the Christmas lights were still up for most of the time which gave fantastic evening views from the apartment, Robin was very helpful when we arrived, arranging a taxi pick-up at the airport and then organising our return journey. Some of the fittings and fixtures could do with some up-dating which Robin is aware of eg. broken window, bathroom lights, drainage from kitchen sink. We would return to the apartment if we visited Madeira again ( when the £ and Euro are a better rate - currently it is an expensive holiday)

Owner's Response: Thank you for your balanced review. It will be our pleasure to see you back in Madeira. It is good you recognise the suitalility of the apartment for people with walking difficulties - the apartment is in one of the most level areas of Funchal! For visitors who wish to swim in Madeira in the winter, it is recommended to visit the Lido complex (right next to a large supermarket less than 4 stops away) where you can swim in the ocean, or in pools filled daily with sea water and usually about 2 degrees warmer than the air temperature. With regard to the items that need attention, the bathroom lamp shades (the lights themselves are not broken) have finally arrived on order and will be installed at the changeover of guests on Monday 2/2. The window is not broken but merely one pane of the double glazed window is cracked (the outside pane) and this is stable and of no danger to anyone. The sink and other items on the list you kindly left have all already been attended to. Once again, thank you for your constructive comments; they help us to make the apartment more comfortable for future visitors. Robin
