Lovely little farmhouse in great location

Dorset Girl Shaftesbury, Dorset, UK
Review Submitted: November 7, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
My partner and I have just come back from a really relaxing week at Ta' Cikka and absolutely loved this little farmhouse. The location was superb: it's very close to Victoria and therefore an easy walk into town for drinks, dinner or sightseeing, and a slightly longer walk to lovely Xlendi and its seafront restaurants (Zafiro is great for pasta - especially seafood spaghetti - and don't miss the delicious ice creams from the shop just off the main car park). Despite the great location, I'd recommend a hire car if you want to explore the island.

The house itself is delightful: very charming, exceptionally clean and very well equipped. It felt much more like a friend's holiday home than some of the more anonymous self-catering places we have stayed in previously. We really liked the way the rooms all lead off a central open-air courtyard, and we spent hours up on the roof terrace, reading in the sunshine and enjoying the view of the citadel and the lush Lunzjata Valley. The house is exceptional value for money for its quality and location.

Mario and Frances were extremely easy to deal with and provided lots of useful information via email to help us plan our visit. We were particularly grateful for the accurate directions from Mgarr Harbour as we arrived in the dark. After a courtesy call from Mario on our first day, we were left to enjoy their farmhouse in peace. As another reviewer commented, all the information and instructions provided in the house were useful without being a great long list of do's and don'ts.

We were really lucky with the weather, having missed a few rainy days the week before, and enjoyed a full week of blissful blue skies - a welcome break from damp and soggy Blighty. Gozo was even lovelier at this time of year (I visited in September a few years ago) as the island is much greener and almost spring-like. It was the perfect temperature for walking and sightseeing. We would particularly recommend a walk on the Ta' Cenc plateau for amazing views across the island and over to Comino and Malta. We also liked tiny San Blas beach, Dwerja Point (it's worth walking away from the hordes at the Azure Window and exploring the coast towards Fungus Rock) and the peaceful narrow streets behind St George's Basilica in Victoria. Ta' Rikkardu in the citadel is great for a simple but delicious lunch of Gozo produce.

All in all, Ta' Cikka proved to be a great bolt-hole for a week's escape. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.
Owner's Response: Thank you very much Dorset Girl. Our aim is always to try to make it home from home to all our Family & Friends. Your review is excellent and very informative. You are always very welcome.

What can we say other than we had a fantastic time!! The facilities were excellent and the property very clean and well maintained. The courtesy call we received on our first day was very helpful; though its hard to believe we needed help with anything - there are instructions, helpful hints and maps everywhere!! Gozo is such a lovely little island and we had a memorable honeymoon, thank you Dan & Laura
Owner's Response: We are very glad you had a memorable stay. You are the 5th honeymoon couple to stay at our farmhouse. Congratulations.

This was my 5th visit to Ta Cikka, and as always it was a beautiful holiday. The house was perfect as always. Great location for resturants and evening walks. It's always such a nice holiday in Gozo. Quiet, relaxed and garanteed sunshine. 5 star accomodation at 3 star prices. Excellent.
Owner's Response: We welcome repeat bookings. Repeat bookings are 10% discounted on our advertised prices.

Honeymoon in Gozo

CKnox Knoxville, TN, USA
Review Submitted: July 8, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in early June, 2009. It was lovely...private and yet conveniently located to almost all parts of the island. We planned to rent a car, but ended up walking the entire two weeks that we were on Gozo, from village to village. The house is not a conventional farmhouse according to U.S. expectations of a large house on a wide stretch of land. Still, we quickly came to appreciate the small yet spacious house sitting at the edge of a village outside the city center. It's just 2 km from the most relaxing seaside village on the island and some breathtaking views of the cliffs at sunset. Also, the amenities are very clean and modern, e.g. washing machine, stove, dvd player, etc. We especially appreciated the washing machine when our luggage was temporarily lost in Heathrow Airport and we arrived in Gozo with nothing but the shirts on our backs!
Owner's Response: We always do our utmost to make your stay a very happy memorable holiday. Excellent little place for honeymooners.

We love Gozo!

Review Submitted: May 12, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Well, what a lovely, relaxing holiday my two sisters and I have just had in this georgous farmhouse. Mario and Frances can not have been more helpful, the house was well equiped, the split transfers were so easy and we hired bikes, so were able to get around the island very easily (although we did look a little odd arriving at Strasse restaurant all dolled up on our mountain bikes!)

We would definately recommend a break on this lovely island, it is just so relaxing and everyone we met was so friendly.

We just hope we can come back again one day. Many thanks!

Spring in Gozo

Smeagol West Midlands UK
Review Submitted: April 28, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
Finished to a high standard and full of Mediterranean charm Ta Chikka has everything one needs for a peaceful, relaxing stay. We had a last-minute week's get-away from the stresses of work.
The simple, straight-forward instructions in the house make it almost impossible to feel anything but welcome. All home comforts are right here, so self-catering is easy – even down to the welcome pack of food and wine - however the restaurants are so reasonable and plentiful that it seems almost a crime not to take advantage!
Three shower rooms are fantastic for having one's own private bathroom even for that romantic get-away! And after our wonderful evening meal out, we enjoying being able to sit and enjoy either the stereo (take your own music) or borrow Mario and Frances' dvds and books.
Two sunbeds on the roof make for a wonderful place to fry gently in the Gozo sun while taking in the magnificent view of the Citadel and surrounding countryside.
It was lovely to find unrestricted parking outside in the street – just be mindful of blocking the neighbour's doorway.
The local shop is open 9-12 and 3-7 with all ones basic needs, and the local merchants come down the street every morning at 8.30-9.00ish, horns blaring, so no need for an alarm! (With that in mind, be prepared for unique driving experiences while tackling the roads and other users!)
We had such a wonderful, relaxing, romantic time that we've booked it for our son's honeymoon for later this year. Such an unusual holiday, yet so easy and stress-free it was marvellous. Fantastic – can't wait to go again!!

winter holiday

Chris & Brian Leeds, Yorkshire England
Review Submitted: April 9, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
My husband and i enjoyed the holiday in the lovely farmhouse, it was everything we expected from reading the other reviews. The welcome pack is a very nice thought, you dont have to worry about buying food when you arrive. We didn't hire a car but as we both love walking we had no problems gettng around, Victoria and Xlendi bay are both very close. Tradesmen call each morning but if you miss them there are some good food shops very close by in the village and in Victoria. The locals are very friendly and helpful, the owner of the local shop offered to go into Victoria to buy us logs and he delivered them to us. The next time we visit Gozo we would diffinately stay at the farmhouse again.
Owner's Response: The Farmhouse is exceptional value for money, for clients who rent 2 weeks or more. Good discount on winter months and low season. Photographs and reviews are exact reflection of what you get at this farmhouse.

Relaxing week on Gozo

Lucilu Ramstein, Germany
Review Submitted: March 10, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
My husband and I have just enjoyed a week at this cute and cozy farmhouse in Kercem. Mario, the owner is very responsive, friendly, and helpful (via e-mail). At our request, a grill was provided for us to bbq. (Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate enough for us to use it.) The farmhouse has everything as described on the site. The large rooftop terrace has 2 sun chaises w/ umbrella and lovely views of the Citadel/fortress in Victoria and surrounding countryside. The charming courtyard provides natural light. The main bedroom is generous enough for two w/ a small shower bath. The smaller 2nd bedroom has 2 twin beds, but has the larger shower bath. There's a fp in the cozy lounge/dining area which you need to use in winter! Firewood is available at the area market stores but Mario provides several logs for your first night, along with bread, eggs, milk, cheese, and meat (in case you arrive too late for a trip to the market). The kitchen is well supplied with cooking utensils, but there is only one large pot and no large skillet, which we could have used. But we cook more (and bigger) than most folks - so maybe that was just our unique problem. Good washing machine but no clothes dryer - dry on rooftop line. In the lounge/dining area there is a bookshelf with a nice selection of paperback books and lots of tourist info on both Malta and Gozo. There’s also a tv, dvd & cd player along with a small selection of each. Vendors come down the street every morning selling fresh foods (around 8:30) – which is fun - but you can easily walk to Victoria and Xlendi Bay, which have good restaurants and food shops. There is a great path (steep) which you can take down to Xlendi Bay which we did twice to dine by the water. We also easily drove to all the sights on the island...a week is plenty of time to see absolutely everything and meet most of friendly Gozo! We thought the driving directions provided to the farmhouse were good and easy to follow. A car (left side driving) is advisable for getting to the farmhouse and for touring the rest of the island. Parking is available right at the unit. If you want a quiet place and a slow pace - this is perfect for you. Not too appealing to people with children, I would think – there’s really no place for them to play. Be aware also that you will do much walking between the three levels of the farmhouse. (Try the meat pies for 1 Euro at the market in Victoria and buy the local inexpensive Gozo wine.) Enjoy!
Owner's Response: We always try to please our guests and make their stay as pleasant as possible. We take note of all your comments. Thank You.

Exceptionally Brilliant!

Peace at last! A proper place with us grown ups and our needs in mind without breaking the bank. What a great little place for de-stressing and walking around in a perfect time-warp. Bought 2 drinks and 2 snacks at the local with change from a 5 euro note. That is less than the Europe conversion kit I bought at Manchester airport which I later discovered I did not need because Malta & Gozo have the same electric system as the U.K.

I love it and will be coming again. Thank you Mario & Frances!
Owner's Response: We enjoy best regular customers.
