We had a lovely time...

Brightoneers Brighton, England
Review Submitted: September 10, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
The flat is just as described in the details. It is welcoming, immaculately clean, comfortable and stylish. We also really appreciated the calm of the village and the beauty of the surrounding area.
The owners were very helpful, providing 3 bikes and giving excellent advice about what to see and do. We loved our trips to the coast, the Dali museum in Figueres, the castle at Requesens, Girona, Cadaques.
We made it as far as the French border but not into France-that's for next time!

Charming stay, beautiful time!

Very nice place in a small Spanish village close to the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea. Just have there a wonderful experience in a house where the quality of wooden furnitures makes the time being simply lovely. Enjoy the surroundings, breath an air that provides enough time to dream one night long on the terrace gazing the stars. Taste the wine, have a rest and test the nice beds. Look, your stay will be delicious!

Review Submitted: September 3, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009

A wonderful base for exploration and relaxation

Badcall Scourie, Sutherland, Scotland
Review Submitted: July 7, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Can Guibert offers everything you need for a fantastic stay in this picturesque, peaceful and unspoilt area of Catalunya. The apartment is just as described, clean ,comfortable and stylish, Petra and Martijn friendly and helpful. The roof terrace provided wonderful ambiance during a week of really fine weather, enhanced by equally fine wine from the winery across the road. There is so much to explore and do in this area, and great local eating places to be found. Thankyou again Petra and Martijn.

I really loved the place for its light and modern interior. Everything is done with care and style. Nice extras, like good DVDs. Nice terrace.
The place is good located, especially when you want to stay at a quiet spot but not far from nice places to visit. The natural park was really beautiful, the owner of the appartment took us out for a ride in his 4x4!
The owners were very nice and helpfull, gave us good tips for sights, walks and good restaurants.
I really love the place, something rare to find. I recommend this place for modern people looking for something with style, comfort and tranquility.

The perfect spot

Paulien & Jeroen Nieuw-Vennep, Holland
Review Submitted: May 26, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
Just below the Spanish Pyrenees, near the beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava, there is the lovely village called Sant Climent Sescebes. With also the Dali Theatre-Museum in Figueres, the National Parc of Alberia and the French border at just a stone's throw away, this is the perfect spot for a holiday in the North of Spain.

Just as Sant Climent is a genuine Spanish village with still all the necessities of a tourist - like a small super market, a bakery and an ATM - the apartment of Can Giubert has an authentic atmosphere, but with the luxury of a dishwasher, a washing machine and a TV. Add to that the romantic roof terrace and the sublime red wine from across the street, and your choice is made: you cannot say no to Can Giubert.

Warning: there is a serious risk that you will be wanting to return at least once a years, just as we have promised ourselves after our second visit this spring.

Highly Recommended Holiday Apartment

Review Submitted: May 25, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2008
The apartment is exactly as described but the description can’t really convey the sense of light and airiness that you get when you are there. The place is very simply but beautifully finished and the roof terrace is a bonus. We were there at the end of March and so it was a little bit cool in the evenings. However, with under floor heating and a wood burner (logs supplied) the apartment remained warm and welcoming.

Walking in the foothills of the Pyrenees, only a short drive from the apartment, was breathtaking. The differing shades of blue, then the snow capped peaks, as you look into the distance would make an artist out of anyone.

As far as food goes we tended to eat very simply. If you don’t speak Spanish or Catalan be brave, walk into the local restaurants and order “Le Menu” which costs approximately 10 euros per person. This is what the working Catalan people eat. You may have a choice, you may not. Trying to work out what the options are or sitting there wondering what is going to arrive is part of the fun. It is usually 2 or 3 courses of simple, freshly cooked food. If you are a pudding person you may be disappointed because you usually get a pot of Danone yoghurt. A bottle of local wine is included but don’t be fooled by the bottle that often accompanies it. You may assume it is water when in fact it is lemonade. A local tradition is to mix wine with lemonade. Guaranteed to ruin a good drink in our opinion. We found the main course to be particularly good in the restaurant in the centre of the neighbouring village of Cantallops. We stopped here after Martijn very kindly gave us a lift high up in the mountains and left us there with mountain bikes and a puncture repair outfit (luckily). Truly exhilarating.

We didn’t spend much time in cities but Girona is well worth a visit, especially walking around the old city walls. We also enjoyed the Dali museum in Figueres. Even if surrealism isn’t your kind of art the whole experience varies between mind-blowing and disturbing. You may even recognise one of the guides; Petra does French tours.

This brings us to what made our stay particularly enjoyable. The hosts, Petra and Martijn are intelligent, kind, thoughtful and as helpful as you want them to be. They don’t interfere with their guests but they are there if you want their advice or you want to borrow a DVD, CD, mountain bike, We think they have got the balance just right. We felt looked after yet independent.

Urlaub vom Feinsten!
