Our long weekend at Seymour Cottage

Review Submitted: September 9, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We've just returned from a three night stay at this delightful cottage which we choose at very short notice and at random from this website. The description given by the owners is 100% accurate and the location is absolutely lovely, directly across the village road to the river, which is beautiful.

The cottage is very cosy, very well maintained, and the owners have thought of everything for the occupiers comfort. The beds are clean, comfortable and the bedding is new and fresh. All we took with us were towels. Our stay was early September and one night it was very chilly when we arrived back from a restaurant but we put the living room fire on and the cottage took no time to warm.

We have no hesitation at all in recommending this cottage and would hope to rebook for at least a week in future as three days is not enough to enjoy the lovely area.

The owners left a comprehensive list of restaurants etc. in the village and surrounding areas and all we tried were excellent, especially the fish of the day at the Staith n Willow restaurant.

We hired a boat from Wroxham, very near, and had couple of enjoyable hours on the river; took ourselves off to shire horse sanctuary near Cromer and adopted a splendid animal called Bluebell, with whom we instantly fell in love.

We left on Monday morning, had coffee in the village, sat outside the Swan pub watching the boats and to our surprise and pleasure were able to watch an otter going about its normal Monday morning business - lovely!

Perhaps a blessing (or not) but O2 mobile phone reception in the village was not good, a bit hit and miss, which we didn't mind but others might find it a nuisance.

Purely by chance found this cottage on the website and it was available for the dates we needed. Received good communication from the owner before our stay and on arrival the property was well maintained and lovely and clean. The village is small but has everything you need. Two nice pubs on the river, a small general store and a couple of shops selling local produce, cream teas etc.
The Southern Comfort mississippi river boat which leaves from the end of the village is well worth going on.
Although everything is quite close to the cottage it is still quiet. We would definetly go to this cottage again. Highly reccomended.

Seymour Cottage, Horning, Norfolk

This cottage was perfect for our needs...just two adults...as we stayed for 2 weeks and therefore cooked and ate in quite frequently; it was homely, comfortable, clean and well equipped. Could see it being a bit crowded with any more people, for that length of stay.

The description is pretty accurate, although the front garden is really the parking space with a large boat shed directly across the road. You can just see the river from the upstairs front bedroom. The patio area from the back bedroom is tiny, too small for more than 2 people to sit out and eat comfortably, and faces a high planted bank. But it's a great suntrap!

Council refuse collection seems to be fortnightly, which meant we accumulated bin bags of rubbish outside near the road, annoyingly added to by visiting boating holidaymakers during the night! We eventually removed the bags ourselves and took them to the nearest recycling facility outside Coltishall.

We were new to the Broads area and took advantage of river trips, walks, visitor centres and attractions, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed, and which made us want to return to see more. You definitely need a car. Excellent Park and Ride facility for visiting Norwich, which is a lovely city. Ruth had provided lots of information about things to do and see in the area and we found this very helpful. We ate out at the 2 local pubs, which were fine, and enjoyed a very good meal at the Staithe 'n' Willow restaurant in the village.

We would highly recommend this property as we would be perfectly happy to return ourselves at some time.

We have stayed at Seymour Cottage on more than one occasion now and we absolutely love it! The location is ideal for exploring the Norfolk Broads and is only 10-15 mins drive away from Norwich. There is also a frequent train service which runs from Wroxham (only a mile away). The cottage is very clean and cosy and has everything you need. There is a really good guide provided by the owners which gives some helpful advice on good restaurants, places of interest and attractions etc. There are 2 pubs in the village and one is almost opposite the cottage, no walking distance at all! We would definitely recommend this cottage and will be returning again the in the future!

New Years Break

Review Submitted: January 21, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Me and my partner went to stay in this lovely cottage over new years for 4 days. it was a lovely get away, quiet but in reach to so many attractions. Recommend a car.

On new years eve we went to 'The Swan Inn' which was a lovely welcoming pub, with a big open fire that we always sat next to! They did do a new years set menu which was reasonable, 3 courses and half a bottle of wine for £25 per head. But we had the main menu, food was delicious would recommend. We went there two nights. Very reasonable price and in Jan they did a promotion with £10 off a bottle of wine.

Only a 10 min drive to center of Norwich, really good if you love shopping :) massive shopping center. defiantly recommend going for a visit. Was a really good day out.

The village itself that the cottage is in was very picturesque, with the river right outside the cottage. the bedroom window looks right over it. Village has few convenience stores which supplies the basics needed for your stay. There is a Tesco metro about 5 mins down the road if you drive through the next village Wroxham which is very handy.

The cottage itself was lovely and cosy. We only used the one bedroom but they were both spacious with wardrobe space. The kitchen was kitted out with all amenities needed e.g microwave, toaster and lots of pots and pans to do any cooking! And the t.v had plenty of channels to choice from. We also found the dvd player very handy, but there are so many films on tv over the new year we didn't really need it!

Heating took a while to warm up when we first got there, but when it did it was lovely and cosy.

I cant really fault the cottage or village and location it is in. We both had a lovely time and would go back again. It was a stress free quiet get away but with all places a 10 min drive away.

When i go back i defiantly want to go and see the baby seals on the beach over winter as we just didn't have time to go! O and try the Chinese take away smelt yummy when we walked past. Is literally on your doorstep so don't have to walk far at all for it

Thank you for a lovely break.

p.s When you go to 'The Swan Inn' for food defiantly recommend the breaded mushrooms! absolutely massive and delicious :)

Seymour Cottage

A lovely cosy cottage where we have spent a happy and relaxing Xmas period for the past two years. The house is well equiped and warm. It is always very clean on arrival - it has a lived in, welcoming feel. The owners were ok about our bringing along our two dogs and even provide stair gate and baby bath/highchair for visitors who require such. The cottage is very central to the village and therefore handy for the pubs and shops. We found food at the New Inn and The Swan very good and the staff very welcoming. The deli is a delight not to be missed selling wonderful cakes by the slice and pies and tarts. Staying at Seymour Cottage provided the fisherman in our party with ample opportunity to fish the Bure. The location is also good for visiting Norwich, the Broads and the coast particularly to see the baby seals. All this type of information was available in the cottage and the telephone numbers possibly needed for emergencies. We would highly recommend this property.

Horning is a great base for a holiday at the Norfolk Broads. The villiage has 3 pubs, 2 resturants and a few shops. Nothing is too far away, therefore we didn't have to spend hours in the car. If you have small children I can recommend Wroxham Barn, where you can feed the farm yard animals. Seymour Cottage is a lovely cosy cottage with all amenities and the owners have completed folders full of information to make your holiday effortless.

Our Stay at Seymour cottage

Because of all the helpfull information the owners gave prior to arriving every thing was as we expecteded, This cottage is located in a lovely part of England and a great pivot point to visit all of the nice historic areas in South East England, A car is a must. The cottage is small but we found it a cozy place to return to every evening after our daily jaunts and the local village has three Inns nice to have a beer and watch the boats go by. They also serve great food..I allways judge a Holiday by thinking would I go again Yes I would stay at Seymour Cottage again Mack P.S. If you go to Norwich or Cambrige use the park and drive a great sevice at a great price
