Our holiday in Nice
Review Submitted: October 8, 2009
Date of Stay: September 2009
On arrival, we were met at the bus station (gare routiere; direct bus from airport) as prearranged and taken to the studio (few minutes walk) which was immaculate and absolutely delightful. We stayed for two weeks and it had everything we needed. We did a fair amount of self-catering and the only thing we needed to get for ourselves was an oyster knife! It's ideally situated for the whole of central Nice, as well as tram (connections to SNCF and chemin de fer de provence trains), and buses to further afield. It's very picturesque - we found two separate postcards of the street - but also very quiet; this is not true of all picturesque parts of Nice.
Pierre and his contact in Nice Rachael were delightful to deal with, absolutely straight and straightforward. We had no problems at all, but we had Rachael's mobile number in case we did.
Nice is fantastic for good food (restaurants and markets), beautiful churches, beautiful buildings of all kinds, museums (Modern Art, Matisse, and Massena are incredible; Arts asiatiques supposed to be but we went on a Tues when shut). Journeys out to St Paul de Vence and the Fondation Maeght, to Vence and the Matisse Chapel (both by bus), and to Annot (by train) were memorable. Villefranche is well worth visiting (local bus). There’s a big folder of information in the flat. It was really hot, so lots of beach and sea too - we didn't cope well with the large pebbles (though most people seem to), but once we'd joined those who use little plastic or rubber shoes to swim in, we didn't look back.
Would recommend it to anyone, and go back like a shot.

Owner's Response: An oyster knife is a good idea ! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Nice, I'll be there soon and can't wait, despite the years and all. The atmosphere is unique. It is true that I never eat any oyster there, so I'll get one. They serve fantastic sea food on Place Garibaldi, at Cafe de Turin. Merci for visiting, et a bientot j'espere, Pierre
