Great value and location chalet

We have stayed at this property several times and find it a really good place to stay. For a catered ski in/out chalet in the three valleys at this price level it is hard to better. Clean, well maintained and as described on the web. The owners are readily contactable.

Chalet Bouquetin is on the edge of the newer (more attractive) developement in Les Menuires below the centre of town with decent views across the valley. The new bypass runs 50m below it, but we do not find that noisy or intrusive as it is well below the chalet level. The accommodation has lots of space in the lounge area with plenty of large comfy sofas and a (self help) fireplace. Most rooms are ensuite. The ski room is a little tight, but adequate, and free internet access is an essential bonus for me. The ski run from the chalet is down quite a steep slope, but it IS only 5m away! This piste is the small Betex (green) run which is at the very bottom of Les Menuires, you then take an old (slowish) chair and can then ski across (blue) and take a fast chair (the Tortollet) up to just above Les Menuires centre where ski school starts. This takes about 10-15 min. Alternatively you can miss out the first lift by walking up the Betex about 100m and skiing down to the second lift to above the centre. Absolute beginners might need to walk a little further and take the small basket lift to the centre, but by day 2 or 3 they should be able to manage the runs slowly!

Food does vary a bit year to year as it can obviously depend greatly on the chalet staff which (obviously) changes each year. I have seen comments from other guests that the food is too 'fancy' but others say that it is not 'haute cuisine' enough! Personally we have found it good, if not spectacular, and on the whole it is improving each year.

Les Menuires is not the most attractive of the 3 valleys and perhaps doesn't have the high class nightlife of some of the bigger centres, but the local 'Yeti' bar is lively, and there are plenty of other restaurants and bars. The main centre is a 10-15 min walk away, though some new restaurants are opening around the recent developements that includes Chalet Bouquetin. Prices tend to be as reasonable as you can expect for the 3 valleys. Les Menuires is, however, brilliantly located for ski touring or skiing to all the other 3 Valley centres easily, and as it is reasonably high we have always found enough snow and always skied in and out - I'm not into walking!

Owner's Response: This year we are enhancing our catering package to include a four course evening meal and improved wines. We also plan to upgrade to a nice large flat screen TV. Whether your party is large or small we will always aim to provide you with a comfortable stay in this outstanding ski area!

February half term stay

Review Submitted: February 24, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
This was our first visit to both the Chalet and to Les Menuires, and having previously stayed in Meribel we weren't disappointed in either the accommodation or the resort.
The Chalet occupies a lovely position affording splendid views down the valley and the Bettex piste running in front of the Chalet allows you to start the day with a nice easy cruise down to the Bettex chair.
The accommodation is spread over 3 floors, with 3 bedrooms upstairs and 3 downstairs all but 2 have en-suite and was perfect for our party of 12, the ground floor provided ample room for all 12 of us to relax and take advantage of the home comforts provided including the log fire, wifi and plenty of wine.
Our Chalet host Izzy was superb and served up plenty of mouth watering fine food during our stay.
The Chalet provides all the comforts of home and allows easy access to those wishing to cruise the 3 Vallies during a weeks skiing - the Chalet is easy to get to and parking is available 20 metres from the front door.
We had a great week and look forward to returning again next year, thoroughly recommended.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for the kind words guys - we hope to see you again and promise to do what we can to make your next stay with us at least as good as this one!

February Half term in the 3 Valleys

Boycey York, North Yorkshire, England
Review Submitted: February 23, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
We were a party of 12 (including 6 x 11 to 16 year olds) and we all had a great time. The chalet is in a great location and very well appointed with plenty of space and never any problems with hot water. The boot room is a little small but hardly a big issue with a little 'shift work'. The free WiFi was a real hit with the teenagers with electronic buddies to keep in touch with, eveb if they sometimes conversed with counterparts as far away as the other settee!! The decent sized TV enabled great fun on the Wii we took along. The food was pretty good and generally plenty of it. It was especially good to get a cooked breakfast - e.g. sausage, scrambled egg and bacon which in addition to typical continental style fare was a hearty start to the day. A daily bowl of fruit would have been a welcome addition though. The real fire was a great focus for those much needed relaxing evenings. The short blue run down to the 2-man chair, although a little slow, was the link to the main resort of Les Menuires and then the full breadth of the 3 valleys. The pizzas from the new takeaway/seated restaurant just up the road were a pretty convenient and tasty solution to the host's evening off. All in all a lovely holiday in a great chalet which shouldn't fail to delight.

Owner's Response: Glad you had an enjoyable holiday Boycey. We'll certainly consider the fruit bowl for the future. Also, we already have some ideas on how to increase the available space in the boot room for next season. Watch this space!

2 - 6 February 2009 - Short Break

Sally@home Colchester, Essex, UK
Review Submitted: February 17, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
We enjoyed a short stay in this attractive, well appointed and peaceful chalet. We were made very welcome by the chalet girls Claire and Issy during our short stay, who provided us with delicious cooked breakfasts, cakes at tea and filling suppers. Our rooms were clean and warm with comfortable beds and there is a lovely sitting area with huge sofas for curling up on with a glass of wine at the end of the day! The skiing available was superb although the ski out (and in) may be too challenging for beginners although a blue run. In addition the chalet is a little out of the town centre (part of its charm) so walking to the centre could be challenging for the young and old due to the slopes, although a good restaurant and bars are available nearby. There is a free bus although we didn't have time to search this out. The chalet owners were excellent to deal with, supplying clear and helpful information prior to our trip and available throughout for any queries we had. In fact, we liked it so much we are returning shortly - what better recommendation can there be!

Owner's Response: Sally's comment about the walk to town is fair - it takes 10-15 minutes for an adult, a little longer for very young children. An alternative to the free bus is the free lift on the way there and of course it's downhill on the way back. Welcome to our growing band of returning guests!

first time in a catered chalet

Review Submitted: February 14, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
What a great ski area!
having spent the last 15 years sking in Austria booking apartments eating out or cooking at home, this was our first experience sharing our accomodation with strangers and being catered for. Maybe we were just lucky but our chalet mates were very sociable and easy going. The catering was very good and the staff were very approachable. I would have liked a lock on the bedroom door for security or maybe a safe but at no time did i feel comprimised.
The area is extra ordinary! vast! extensive! great for the intermediate and beginner, i wished we had tried it out when our boys were younger , however we definiatley intend to visit again in the very near future even with the boys at 21yrs and 18yrs, saying that i dont intend to spend too many nights out drinking not at 6.50 euros for a pint luckily the chalet had upgraded to wine and beer.
Three cheers for peter and bev.
regards martin and clare.

We have stayed in this chalet three times now and it just gets better. The chalet is fully catered includes breakfast and evening meal wine beers and soft drinks all included.
There is a large lounge where you can unwind after a long days skiing and chill out in front of a open fire. The chalet is ski in ski out and has excellent access to the three valleys ski area. Chalet hoste where great, seen to our every need with some excellent freshly baked cakes on our return in the afternoons. We will definatley be return ing to this chalet again as it is great value for money beautifully laid out with excellent facilities for single travellers and families.

Xmas week 20-27 Dec. 2008

Monrob West Sussex U.K.
Review Submitted: January 6, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Our family of 14 consisted of 8 adults and 6 children (6-15 years) had a very happy time at Chalet Bouquetin this Xmas. The accommodation was perfect for us - 6 beds with 4 ensuite plus a family bathroom. The lounge was also very comfortable with large comfy sofas and we were delighted to see that Christmas decorations had been put up so the children could still have their presents under the tree! The chalet hosts Izzy and Ben worked very hard and catered amazingly well for 14 including Christmas dinner. We had lovely weather with lots of sunshine and snow. A car is useful if you don’t ski or want a day off to do a bit of site seeing. St Martin de Belleville is worth a visit and is more of a typical mountain village. There were one or two early season teething problems with Ski France the managing agents and the bootroom gets a bit crowded with 14 skiers. But all said and done we highly recommend Chalet Bouquetin and would happily return.
