If you wish to learn a well hidden secret, visit El Valle and stay in the Asturias. If you wish to enjoy you visit further make sure you stay here. This is our second visit and the atmosphere and tranquillity here, far surpasses many other places I have visited in the world. For me it is home from home, with the added opportunity for adventure and exploration thrown in. Every corner twists into into a new vista.every corner shows me new charms. if one could merely gaze around all corners , I'm sure the historic charms of this fascinating area would take me beyond a life time and again to absorb everything it has to offer. The surf rumbles, as it has since the beginning of time onto the most picturesque beaches - each one differing from the next. Ferns jostle with eucaluptus, as one journeys down to little bays and inlets, -these too, reluctant to release the well kept secret of the Spainish Asturias as they hide the view until the last tantilising moment.
I have enjoyed local bars, food and company not necessarily in that order.Whiled away many an hour drinking coffee and watching the ever changing hum of the different market days that occur through out Spain.
I've experienced history from jurassic times onward.Travelled in a canoe past scenery that competes on is own level with Switzerland. Then I have returned home to the above accomodation, a little like stepping through my own front door. Therfore it would be an insult to assume that the property was not well maintained, clean etc.
The owners provided a faultless customer service and were eager and enthusiastic to provide for our ever need and inquiry. THEIR enthusiasm enable us to experience new parts of Asturia we never new existed. The Botanical Garden , many of the bookable Canoe trips, the local coastal routes, the fish restaurants, Gjoin , a locally arranged cider talk and demonstration are few of many musts to enjoy.

Need I say more.Book and make your own exciting choices.

What a discovery!

UK Family Nottingham, England
Review Submitted: September 1, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We are a family of five with three children aged between 10 and 17. This was our first visit to Asturias and was a great three week holiday. We visited many beautiful beaches each with its own character, went on country, riverside and cliff top walks, meandered around fishing ports, old towns and churches, visited a range of good museums and ate excellent food washed down with local cider and wine. We were a little concerned that we were visiting during the peak August holiday period and that the area would be crowded but our concerns were not justified, the roads and beaches were almost deserted by UK standards.

Our accommodation was very well situated between the three major towns of Oviedo, Gijon and Aviles with a range of good beaches within 10 to 20 minutes drive and on our more adventurous days our location allowed us to visit the beaches and towns of both eastern and western Asturias and return easily within the day. Travel around the region is very easy via a growing network of new major roads and motorways.

The standard of the property is first class - we stayed in one of two apartments converted from an old granary which was full of character but with modern fittings and finishes. Our hosts Terri and Juan could not have been more friendly or amenable. Nothing was too much trouble, from inside knowledge on the best beaches and walks, where to park in the towns, booking restaurants (and translating the menus!) to organising our canoeing trip, our hosts did everything possible to enable us to make the most of our stay. As if this was not enough, their growing assortment of farmyard animals and pets are guaranteed to enchant any youngsters in the party who will rush to feed them scraps after any meals.

Overall, we had a great holiday - busy in terms of activities but taken at a relaxing pace in beautiful surroundings with good company and a comfortable home base. With the development of the coastal motorway it can only be a matter of time before this Asturias is "discovered" and changes for ever. If you enjoy the coastal scenery of Devon and Cornwall or walking the Lakes but want to do it in peak season without the crowds then you will love Asturias.

Many thanks Terri and Juan for helping us to have such a fantastic holiday.

FANCORNIO, Asturias

Watertiger Pomport, Dordogne, France
Review Submitted: May 10, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2007
My first visit to the beautifully tranquil region of El Valle in Asturias, I was taken into another world where farming is still practised by hand with a sythe, wonderful Horreos converted into lodgings, in particular 'Fancornio' have done with style.
Tastefully decorated, modern and fresh surroundings with the green hills and peaceful walks leading to neolithic stones, tasting the fruits of Asturias in the form of cidre, the traditional and entertaining way, make sure you don't have your best shoes on! Opens your eyes to a different view of Spain. Just a hop skip and a jump away from wonderful mountain tracks, beaches and lovely fishing port towns and mountain villages.
All of this together with the added bonus of having fabulous hosts, a warm welcome and super friendly!
A wonderful place worth going back to year after year.
Thank you Terri and Juan for a great holiday.

Dog Holidays

Review Submitted: May 9, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2007
Great base for exploring the asturian countryside, beautiful beach only 10 min drive down the road, house at foot of mountain walk. My dog and I really enjoyed a relaxing stay here at half term. Terri, Juan, and the boys really made us feel welcome. Loved seeing the chickens and lambs every morning too. (Owners are English speaking with Spanish know how...) If you want to visit real Spain...this is a great place to come.

Owner's Response: the animals also love all the attention, the sheep and chickens grow fat from all that left over bread given to them, but it is another great way to recycle left over peelings etc.
pets are welcome as long as owners are responsible about how they treat the place. we are glad you enjoyed your stay.

Lovely stay in rural Spain

Review Submitted: May 9, 2008 Date of Stay: February 2007
My daughter (5yrs) had a lovely stay at this property. The accommodation is a lovely mixture of traditional and contemporary and most important comfortable. The house is nestled in the side of a beautiful valley with easy access to plenty of walks for various abilities. This region is very traditionally Spanish and there are many historical attractions although hire car essential.
We hope to be able to return some time very soon.

Our stay was just fantastic, waking up in the mornings in the bright sunlight of an Asturias autumn and the fresh air.The property was very well decorated and the facilities very modern. The location was just right for exploring the countryside with mountains and beaches very accesible, and less than an hour from the local airport.Terri and Juan made us very welcome and were able to advise us of the best local resturants and recommeded sights. We look forward to visting again later this year.

A haven in Asturias.

Teddington London Uk
Review Submitted: February 9, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2007
We stayed at the Old Stable on 15/08/07to 16/8/07. We were greeted with a warm welcome from Juan & Terrie and soon made to feel at home with the informal atmosphere which dominates there. The accomadation benefited for light and aireness but was homely and comfortable. It is on the ground floor and easely accessed through an independent entrance which assures privacy. The decor is modern but not sterile but very clean and well maintained. We enjoyed our short stay and look forward to a much longer stay on the next occassion when we hope to make use of it's ideal geographical location to explore by foot and car the beautiful surrounding countryside.
