The Hideaway, August 2009

Review Submitted: September 19, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The Hideaway really is a brilliant place - my wife and I agreed that it is the finest of the rural properties we’ve rented in Europe. The finish of the converted farm buildings really is first-class; more like a boutique hotel than a barn-conversion!

Mark and Sarah are flawless hosts, who seemed to have thought of every detail of their guests’ stay. The welcome pack they provided included: wine, olive oil from their friends across the way, eggs from their chickens, fresh herbs and even a home made cake. Also they provide a handwritten notebook on the local area which is quite a work of art, as well as being really helpful. They were never obtrusive, but were about if you needed anything.

The grounds and outlook are stunning. The area is wilder than Tuscany or Umbria, but more impressive for that. The wild flowers, lizards and insect life are fascinating - an added bonus that nothing seemed to bite.

Fabulous location; fabulous holiday!

Review Submitted: September 1, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The sheer hospitality at The Hideaway goes way beyond the ordinary . . . from the helpfulness and friendliness of the initial email contact right through pre-arrival information to the on-site advice and late-night welcome when we arrived exhausted from our drive from Rome airport!

The apartment was spotless, very well appointed and everything had been thought of - the welcome bottle of wine and offer of fridge-stocking with food was very kind indeed.

Mark and Sarah lifted our stay from a 'nice holiday' to one which I am recommending to anyone I speak to. My 2 small sons had a wonderful time in the pool and grounds and playing with Rusty the dog and the 4 (on occasions) free-roaming chickens! We adults had time to chill out and even when the property was full there was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space . . and having the wi-fi there meant we could keep in touch via our laptop which was handy.

The location is about 1 hour's drive from the beach - the closest, Pedaso, appealed most to us as it was very 'Italian' and not quite as crowded as (for instance) Villa Rosa. The seafood eateries on the beach were great . . . my 2 year old fussy eater put away the delicious fresh tuna steak with zero fuss.

I would thoroughly recommend a visit if you want a slow-paced, hassle-free holiday which would work for couples, culture-vultures and families alike!

Second Time Around - A fabulous stay

Last year was my first visit to the beautful La Marche countryside and the excellent Hideaway run by the hosts with most friendly welcome Sarah and Mark. I had such a wonderful time and found the accomodation excellent value and very competitive rates. Last year I stayed in the Stylish and well equipted Appartment 1 .. the farm house. This time I stayed in one of the ensuite appartments.. just as comfy and styishly decorated. It was nice to return and I had very nice welcome from Mark and Sarah and Rusty the dog, along with new playmates of Jess and Flopp (Rescued form the L'Aquila earthquake). Everything is beautifuly clean and the accomodation is well maitained with a homely feel. Very comfy beds and a most peaceful location. Stunning veiws to wake up to. The facilities of the swimming pool, hamocks, gazebo dinning area, BBQ all add to the enjoyment. It well placed for sightseeing to the towns of Comunanza, Amandola ... perfect for eve entertiament, cafe and bars, Ascoli great for a shopping trip with a fab Italian shoe shop (Girls) and very good prices too. Worth leaving some room in suitcase for. Good Markets too. Great for countryside walks and seeing waterfalls and the Monestry in Sibiliani (prob misspelt that) but it is worth a look. The town of Penna has little old theatre which is amazing. The Hideaway offers a fanatstic get a way from it all with the option of having things to see and do as well. It is 3 hours from Rome by train and about 5 from Milan so trip via these is enroute is well recomended. It is a good idea to hire a car to get out and about but the roads are not as crazy the city. Just remember in Italy it rude not overtake often :). The literature that is in the appartments on what to do and see is excellent as is the guide to all things good on the food front. Stay in or go out it's all there for you. Wine good and cheap (Still) as are most restaurants. Must mention the nice welcome pack of homemade cake, wine, eggs form the chickens Alice, Gerri thelma and Louise. All in all highly recomeded will be back for a third visit soon.

A beautiful 'Hideaway'

I stayed here at the end of May in one of the apartments. Amazing views (the toilet was the best! ) from every window and lovely weather. 5 mins from the nearest shops by car where they sell the most amazing pizzas as recommended by Mark for just 5 euros!!

Sarah and Mark, amazing hosts, they could not do enough for us. Little touches like eggs, bread, and wine and even a light on our door key for at night time made our holiday all more personal. Lovely garden, and swimming pool. Nice and relaxing and extremely quiet apart from the odd chicken or dog bark.

Sarah and Mark made both a dvd and left plenty of leaflets with lots of information to do in La Marche. We went to a couple of local markets, very cheap and plenty of places to eat. If you fancy a drive, Rome is about 3 hours away. After long journeys you can be sure to be greeted by a very comfy bed.

And not forgetting their 3 lovely dogs that are always so happy to greet you!

Fantastic location with Mark & Sarah being great hosts. They have a little gem of a place to offer and wouldn't hesitate recommending this place to others. All the mod cons on offers with the properties beautifully furnished.

January is not the best month to visit Le Marche, but The Hideaway is a great place to stay. Nestling in a secluded valley of great beauty, the accomodation is really comfortable and welcoming. The heating worked well, and the beds are really comfortable. The kitchen is well equipt making self catering easy.
Sarah and Mark are charming and friendly hosts, and the small touches like the homemade olive oil and jam all added to our feeling of welcome.
Amandola has a beautiful old town and good cafe, and Comunanza a great saturday market. Ascoli is a wonderful old city, very worth visiting, and only an hour away.
This is a really good place to stay

A true hideaway..

Review Submitted: October 27, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
As a party of 8 [2 families] we booked the apartment and the B&Bs, these are conversions of original buildings, done to a very high standard and set in beautiful scenery. We were made to feel most welcome by Mark & Sarah who genuinely enjoy sharing their beautiful home with others. They are there to help and advise on places to visit and eat and share their enthusiasm for this incredible region, then leave you to explore. The Hideaway makes a superb base for excursions and a serene place to which to return and chill after a long, hot day. La Marche is a region of incredible beauty and we look forward to exploring it in it's winter guise - The Hideaway will be top of our list to do so.

Great accommodation in a stunning location

Review Submitted: October 22, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
This a a great holiday home in a stunning, unspoilt spot. The Hideaway catered very well for our young family, with plenty to do just at the holiday house, from swimming, picking tomatoes, walnuts, courgettes and eggs to playing boules and looking for squirrels and toads in the fantastic little doorways Mark has hidden around the garden - our four year old daughter was enchanted!

When we eventually got around to exploring the local area (with the great help of Sarah and Mark's guide to the area) there is so much to do and see, the mountain range is so close by and breathtakingly spectacular walking shopping, eating, beaches, mountain top villages and just driving!! The usual guide books on the area really fail to do this area justice. This is a great spot for couples wanting a bit of peace and quiet and equally lovely for families. Sarah and Mark really pulled out the stops for the kids with a lovely cot (not a travel one!) for the baby and a teddy on the bed for our four year old and her own shower gel in the bathroom! I'm definitely going back!!
