What a wonderful place to have a relaxing holiday

We would certainly recommend this property.
The property is in a beautiful, quiet location surrounded by woods. It is well placed for visits into Bruges as well as for visits to the coastal towns of Ostend, Blankenberge and Knokke Heist. There are a lot of designer shops in Knokke Heist and a good range of fish retaurants in Ostend. We also visited Gent and Antwerp. Gent is a larger version of Bruges and there is plenty to see in both towns. We would recommend a visit to the newly renovated railway station in Antwerp which houses a number of amazing diamond shops.
The house was clean and very well maintained with plenty of room. The appliances in the kitchen and utilty room are excellent and all furnishings are very comfortable. The property has a lovely garden which catches the sun for most of the day. The description of the property is certainly accurate.
The owners and family live close by, are most hospitable and are an excellent source of information. They bumped into us whilst we were shopping in the supermarket and stopped to chat recommending we visited the Canal Festival which was taking place in Bruges whilst we were there. Anyone who is in Bruges when this festival is taking place should go along but be prepared for the crowds.
A truly lovely property - one which we cannot rate highly enough.
Owner's Response: Indeed the house is a good alternative, close to the city and fast communication to Flanders. Nice to hear that we score to our goal, giving customers good service and a nice holiday :-)
Ilse & Eric

An Excellent Base for Bruges and the Western Front

Review Submitted: July 23, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
A lovely spacious property in a very rural setting yet less than 15 mins from the heart of Bruges. The property is a well equipped and comfortable bungalow with a sizeable garden and plenty of parking. It is located on a delightful, quiet, single-track road that runs past the Abbey, through woodland and pastures. We really appreciated being able to walk through the woods around the Abbey in the evening after a busy day out.

We rented this property mainly so that we could spend a few days visiting Bruges; driving into Bruges and parking was no problem (July). We also found it took only 45 mins to drive from the property to the First World War Western Front area around Ypres (via E403 & A19) to visit the memorials, cemeteries and trenches etc.

The owners, Eric and Ilse, live nearby and were very welcoming and helpful.

Schöne Tage im Abdijhoek

Sehr empfehlenswert!

Christmas in Bruges

Jude1 Ross-shire, Scotland
Review Submitted: January 13, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
We have just returned from a lovely Christmas in Bruges. The house was ready upon arrival and Eric's welcome was very warm and friendly - the chocolates were much appreciated. The house is in fantastic setting - so peaceful and rural, yet only a short drive away from the hustle and bustle of Bruges. It is very well equipped with all you need for a self catering holiday. The garden is large and private. On the days we didn't venture into Bruges, there were lovely wooded walks direct from the doorstep!
All in all we had a great holiday.

Our only negative comment is that we found it difficult to keep all of the house warm (the kitchen and sitting room/diner were cozy but the hallway, toilet and bedrooms were very cold - tiled floors in particular). We accept that the weather was particularly cold during our visit - minus temperatures during some of the days - but we were still surprised to have run up an electricity bill, which taking account of the low exchange rate £/Euro was still more than double anything we've paid for similar Northern European lets during the autumn/winter! In recongnition of the low temperatures, Eric did not pass all of this onto us, which we thought was a very kind gesture.

We would certainly consider visiting again, and recommending - as an excellent summer letting.

Review Submitted: November 20, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
Hello Erik & Ilse,

we'd like to thank you for the beautiful, peaceful and silent days we did spent in your House. you did not overpromise - it is a perfect place in the middle of green (well it was more red an yellow due to the autumn season) surroundings of Brugge. Everything was perfect and I can recommend your place to everybody who wants to relax and or as I do some music or other creative things. You have been very kind and well if we are lucky - we will be back.

All the best - thanks again
Achim & Maria

Idyllische und absolut ruhige Lage. Geschmackvolle, komplette Einrichtung. Sympathische Vermieter, die gleich gegenüber wohnen. Auch für Rollstuhlfahrer (soll demnächst weiter optimiert werden), vorerst noch mit Begleitperson, geeignet. Preiswert. Reibungslose Abwicklung. Herzlichen Dank und jederzeit gerne wieder!
