Le Pigeonnier

Review Submitted: July 13, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
This was our first trip to France, we had a great time and would certainly return to the area and this property. We flew to La Rochelle airport, picked up a hire car & drove to our accommodation which only took 20 minutes. The property was charming, clean and well-maintained and well situated for visiting places ie. Isle de Rey, La Rochelle, Bordeaux and various beaches nearby. We were there 20th-27th June and the weather was fantastic - seven beautiful days. Suzie and Nigel were most helpful suggesting places to visit & directions, recommending restaurants and generally very friendly and welcoming. Liz & Ray

We have just returned from our second wondeful holiday in the Pigeonnier. It is the best gite we have stayed in in 15 years of holidaying in France with the best hosts. We can't rate this holiday too highly !! Situation is perfect for couples and families. It has got even better with the addition of the pool. We will certainly be returning for a third time soon.

Le Pigeonnier nr Landrais is fabulous

Review Submitted: June 23, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We have just returned from a wonderful week at Le Pigeonnier. The cottage is fabulous and caters for your every need. The owners are the perfect hosts and have done an amazing job doing up this beautiful property. They are also a fountain of useful knowledge. The scenery is lovely, the weather was fantastic and with a villlage just walking distance away it was perfect for a week away to relax and unwind. You need a car to get around but there is so much to see and do nearby that it is hard to know whether to go out and about, or lie by the fabulous new pool that has been installed this year. We have already recommended it to friends and family and hope to return again next year! A great find!!

Second stay, better each visit!!

Another few days of peace and relaxation just heavenly. It was so good to visit again and be looked after by Nigel and Sue. We were treated like part of the family. We found the local restaurants excellent and the gite so cosy and comfortable, there's nothing that beats a wood burning stove. If there's one critism it is that it was hard to leave!! Hope to visit for the third time early next year. Thanks Nigel and Sue

Perfect hosts for a perfect holiday

Review Submitted: November 21, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Nigel and Susie were fantastic hosts, really made our holiday magical, offering us great advice on the region. We arrived during the afternoon and were so pleased to find ourselves surrounded by sunflowers and that complimentary bottle of chilled wine on arrival was the perfect start to our holiday.

This is our sixth year staying in gites and the pigeonnier was the best accomodation we've stayed in by far. It is finished to a high standard and was exactly as described on the website, perfect.

The location of the gites is perfect for instant access to La Rochelle and at the same time quiet to relax and sleep like a log at night. The local restaurant is just a short walk from the gites and is amazing, very good value and a gastronomic experience with over five local courses served with local wine.

Would we go back, you bet, we've already booked for 2009, especially with the new pool!

we made the most of our week and the gite is in a very quiet and rural area. A bit remote but a good beach is 15 mins away. The property is adequate but is very basic and too far away restaurants and bars and the nights can be long. It would benefit from more privacy and luxury for the price. We enjoy the area and property would suit a short stay.
Owner's Response: We are very surprised by your comments, and are very sorry and understand you had a difficult week with lot’s of bad news from back in England. However you did leave a nice comment in our guest book of how you enjoyed the village restaurant (10 mins walk) on your last evening. In our village there is also a bar/restaurant and had you ventured out you would have found bars & restaurants in all the surrounding villages too.
We advertise our gite’s as being rural and away from it all as it makes for a relaxing holiday so if it’s nightlife your after then this is not for you! All of our guests since 2005 have been happy so far in the Pigeonnier and have found it to be good value for money and are usually very surprised of how spacious it feels (41m2), most families of 4 staying for 2 weeks at a time. We have also had several long term rentals out of season for more than 4 weeks as well, they have all been completely satisfied and we find alot of our guests are repeat bookings. You’ll also find the gite well equipped and provided for even down to washing up liquid, toilet rolls, tea towels, towels on request, bath mats, large selection of dvd’s, books, games etc…….
We do agree that it needs to be more private so we are planning to put more fencing around the eating area for the future. Also we are working hard to put an 11x5 metre private walled swimming pool in for 2009. We work extremely hard on improving our business year after year and keeping our cleanliness and standards high.
It just goes to show you can’t please everyone!

Thank you for a lovely stay.
We spent a week in the Pigeoniere. Nigel and Suzi are excellent hosts and well located.
La Rochelle is an easy drive, we enjoyed walking in the park, following the fish filled river down to the sea front, walking in the nearby woods, and of course, local shops and markets.

A Brilliant Property

Border1 Northumberland
Review Submitted: August 27, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We stayed in the Pigeoniere for 3 nights leaving on 26th August 2008. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children aged 9 and 7. Booking the accommodation was simple and Nigel and Suzanne kindly sent a booking receipt, map and tourist guide for the area in advance.

Upon arriving we were all greeted with a warm, friendly welcome.

The description of the property on the web site is accurate and we were not let down. It was very clean and well finished. We had a great stay and everything you could possibly need was available.

Nigel and Suzanne are great hosts and nothing was a trouble to them. They have worked very hard to achieve what they have - top marks as they have not cut any corners.

Customer service was great.

We will be recommending the property to our friends knowing they would be happy too if they booked.

There is so much to do nearby or at the coast and its was a nice thought to know that when you returned to the accommodation you would be happy and relaxed.

We would have no hesitation returning.

Lovely property owned by lovely family

Review Submitted: August 12, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
The 'Pigeon House' was a lovely little property and ideal for our family of three. Our five year old son was thrilled to find another three boys staying in the other houses, and we got a warm welcome from Nigel and Suzanne's children, especially their five year old boy. Nigel and Suzanne have obviously put a lot of work into their gites and it has paid off - we particularly liked the Pigeoniere's decor and the fact that it is detached from the main house. The atmosphere is very relaxed and N & S were warm, informative and extremely likeable people. We hope to return one day, especially with the proposed addition of a swimming pool. We would recommend to friends and family alike.

Had forgotton what quiet really sounded like! Very relaxing and comfortable. Nigel and Suzie couldn't have been more helpful, Nigel a dab hand at changing car fuses, nearly got stressed over cig lighter fuse blowing (no more TomTom!) Countryside beautiful, beaches fantastic, though wish we had thought more about the tide times (a long walk to the sea).
Setting was in a impressive setting, what a place to live. Enjoyed most La Rochelle, Oleron and Isle de Re.Plenty to do or see, will go back with grandchildren one day, children well catered for and lots of space to run around. Recommended.
A pool will make all the difference. We stopped over night to break the journey at Falaise (going) and Albert (on the return).
