Half Term Bruges Break

familybruges Essex
Review Submitted: November 3, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
My husband and our 2 children just spent a lovely half term break in Bruges. We were very happy with the house and quickly felt at home. The bedrooms are spacious and the bathroom very cosy. It was lovely to stay in such an old property which has so much of the original character retained. We found the location very convenient for the centre which was about a 10 minute walk away. The owner was friendly and helpful and instantly available to sort out any queries or problems. One point I would make was that the stairs are extremely steep (winding) and narrow and there is no guard rail - this was ok for us as our children are older but I think they would make the property unsuitable for very young children or in fact older people. Also (again a personal thing) only one thinnish pillow was provided per person so you may wish to request/take a spare. Bruges is a beautiful city with plenty to see and do - avoid the frite museum though as it is possibly the most boring place we have ever been to!
Owner's Response: The staircase was newly installed six years ago en never caused any problem nor did anybody fell down. The stairs were built according to the buildingstandards and as it is turning 90°, so it is steeper near the axis and broader near the wall were a safeguard is mounted. We dispose of a mountable safeguard for small children, which was not needed here. None of our guests has had a problem on the staircase which is a current model in typical old Bruges houses.....
There are in total 7 pilows in one bedroom and 4 in the other. There are spare pillows available as much as needed, the size is square standard continental europe - not the US rectangular size. I can only regret the guests did not ask for more pillows as we are only a few blocks away from the house....

Two couples stayed comfortably in this charming old property close to the Markt. Rooms were very large and comfortably furnished. Kitchen had all the necessary equipment in full working order. The owner is most helpful and friendly. A place to which we will return.

We had a lovely time in Bruges, beautiful city in Belgium. The house is nice, big enough for 4, clean and well maintained. The owner even had Christmass tree for us. We were only a bit dissapointed that we couldn't use the fire place.
Owner's Response: The fireplace is filled with logs, but we can not allow our guests to make an open fire due to fire risk, for their safety.

A great place to stay to see Bruges.Within walking distance of the town center and all attractions. The property was clean and well maintained and the owner was most helpfullI would recommend anybody to stay here. The only problem would be the stairs are very steep and an elderly or disabled person would have difficulty.

charm and comfort

We just wanted to say what a lovely holiday we had in Bruges, and how impressed we were with "Clarissa" - the house was perfect. It had the decor and charm of the 17th century, but with 20th century comfort - we really appreciated being able to explore such a lovely city with all the comforts of home.

We will happily recommend the house to friends - we've already been raving to people about how lovely Bruges is. Thanks very much for making our stay so comfortable

Good accommodation in central Brugge

Review Submitted: June 10, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
The house itself was very comfortable but the one draw back are the stairs going to the bedrooms - they are very steep and we actually unpacked our suitcases down stairs as it was not easy getting them upstairs. this house would be great for the 25 - agile 55's but the stairs were quite daunting for us over 65's.It would not be a good house for young children. We walked every where which was wonderful - the house is very well equipped and we really enjoyed our stay there. It was surrounded by very nice restaurants and had easy access to a supermarket and pastisseries.

February in Bruges

Review Submitted: February 26, 2008 Date of Stay: February 2008
My partner and I recently spent an all to brief 3 nights at this little house in Bruges city centre. The location was ideal just a 10 minute walk to the very centre but part of it's own little community that gave more of a feel for the city away from the tourist centre. Lovely local restaurants providing traditional dishes which meant you didn't feel as though you were eating from a tourist menu and there were lots of shops nearby in case you felt the need to cook ( we didn't but they came in handy for the wonderful beer and chocolate )
The house was very clean and furnished with some very nice antiques. Noel met us to show us around the house and then left us alone to enjoy the place, leaving his contact number just in case.
Less agile people do need to be aware of a very steep staircase!!
During our stay the weather was sunny but very cold, the house was warm and cosy but a few logs for a real fire in the large fireplace would have been the icing on the cake.
