Pleasant but in need of some TLC

This is a nicely proportioned, sweet little apartment which is ideally located for access to Via Fillungo. The chestnut wood ceiling and teraccotta floors are all very attractive and the windows provide plenty of natural light.

We were greeted by Danielle, who was friendly and helpful.

However, the apartment was a little grubby and all the surfaces needed a good wipe over. There are broken lights and light fittings in all the rooms, including the stairwell; the latter being quite challenging since there is no natural light here.

The kitchen, bathroom and petite balcony are all perfectly servicable but just need some care and attention- fixing or replacing broken elements and generally smartening up. The bikes would be great but one had a flat tyre!

TLC required throughout.

Whilst the owner was very helpful in purchasing concert tickets for the summer festival for us, the rest of his service was very poor. We were very disappointed with the apartment, which is misrepresented on the web. It is poorly maintained, very dusty (not good for allergies) it wasn't clean, the linen for the extra bed was delivered to us after midnight!! The neighbours are very noisy- we were often woken up by a woman screaming early morning! Be well prepared with insect repellent if you plan to stay here - we had sleepless nights from mosquitos and bugs!

The owner was very pleasant and the apartment is right beside the city walls and main shopping streets. The terrace is really small, sits two at a squeeze, a little sun in the morning only. Owing to steep stairs to the flat, would not recommend for small children. Flat would sleep 2 or 3 - too small for 4. Kitchen area needs replacing and upgrading. The fridge was new, but cupboards and dishes were not particularly clean. One of the rings on the hob wasn't working. Although there was a fan, hairdrier, iron, etc which was appreciated, I would say this is just a basic place to sleep and shower.

The description of this apartment is extremely flattering and whilst not totally inaccurate, does give an impression somewhat different to the reality. For one thing, it may sleep four but would do so only with a considerable degree of discomfort and inconvenience.
"Recently refurbished"? We saw no evidence of any refurbishment, in fact the place was rather shabby. It was also a bit grubby - and we hasten to add that we are far from being over-fastidious.
As for the views - not bad but not what the blurb implies, by a long way.
You'd have to be fairly fit not to be out of breath after struggling up the 4 half-flights of stairs after a full days sight-seeing. Also to man-handle the bikes down two flights.
We only had two towels each for a 10 day stay.
There were no tea-towels.
The door to the freezer compartment of the fridge was missing.
However, the apartment was reasonably priced considering that it was within the walls of the old town.
The write-up is accurate about Lucca. It is a beautiful, interesting town and there is no shortage of things to do and see both in it and in the surrounding area.

We stayed at the apartment in September. It's in a quiet side street, but only minutes from all the tourist sites, bars and resturants. The apartment is a good size for two people and is comfortably furnished. It has a well equiped kitchen enabling you to prepare meals from the fresh ingredents available from the local shops and market.
The stairs are quite steep, but the very pleasant owner Daniele was happy to carry up any heavy bags.
The apartment was excellent value for money and we would happily stay there again.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Tuscany using this lovely apartment as a base. The apartment has everything you could need for a couple and is very clean and bright with a small balcony leading from the bedroom. It is situated at the top of Via Filungo and there are great bars, restaurants and wonderful food shops only metres away. The beautiful town of Lucca is easily explored on foot and once you've worked out your way around town you can reach almost anywhere within ten minutes. It is also only steps away from the incredible walkway which runs around Lucca, perfect for an evening stroll. Lucca also has a railway station making it ideal for visiting the beach at Viareggio (20 mins) and Florence (1 hr 30) among others. Daniele was an ideal host, welcoming without being intrusive and always available should you have any problems. There are a couple of flights of stairs to reach the apartment so it may be unsuitabe if you are infirm but this is the only negative I can think of about his great value apartment.
