Perfect holiday destination

Review Submitted: October 16, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
The description was accurate. Very clean and comfortably furnished with lots of special little touches. A perfect place for an 'away from it all' holday in wonderfully tranquil surroundings with views which would be hard to better- anywhere. Close enough to towns/arts/attractions to find everything one could want within easy distance. We did go exploring, because we felt we should. However, we did not come close to finding anywhere as beautiful as the views from the Torre. A perfect holday destination. We hope to return. A magical place with a special atmosphere.

Better than the pictures

This place has everything for everyone. If you want sighseeing (ruins, Girona), art/architecture (Barcelona, Salvadore Dali, Guade), beaches (breathtaking Costa Bravo) or you can simply relax by the Tower and enjoy the piece and the beautify of the sunset over the mediterrenian landscape. We (two adults and two boys age 12 and 8) did it all and will do it again in a heart beat.

Castle in the sky

We had a phenomal time. Away from it all but 20 minutes to the beach and 5 minutes to town. Dali museum is a treat even for teenagers and Barcelona an easy day trip. But best of all peace and quiet while 'getting lost' in the olive groves and connecting trials. Breakfast and dinner with 270 degrees. No TV! Ahhh. Recommended to any one, any age, any time.

Fantastic holiday away from it all

4Kingsfour Cornwall, United Kingdom
Review Submitted: June 17, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Our family of four enjoyed a fantastic 10 days here in May. Our young children loved the space and freedom, and especially the small pool which comes into its own on hot days.

The photos on the website represent very accurately the feel of the place: there is no bad view, with just lovely countryside, mountain and the sea views for 360 degrees. The location is very very peaceful allowing you to enjoy some great wildlife right in the garden: orchids, bright green lizards, beautiful butterflies and fantastic birds. Hoopoes, woodlarks, nightingales, nightjars, melodious warblers, bee-eaters all fly and sing right in the garden.

The house too is very well maintained, with good modern facilities, nice bedding and towels (with separate ones supplied for pool use - a helpful touch). It was a treat to stay in a holiday let where such thought had gone into the furnishings and decoration - including some lovely antiques, great artwork, and enough interesting books to not bother taking any of your own. Again, the website photos are a very accurate indication of the quality.

The market town of La Bisbal is a five minute drive, and grows on you as you discover the older parts, and the best places to shop. The owner was kind enough to give us a whistlestop tour to make sure we were able to pick up the best groceries. We managed trips to Gerona and Barcelona, though the pull of the Torre was so strong that we ended up pottering round La Bisbal most days before getting back to the pool and garden.

The owners were around most of the time to answer questions, and if they had to go away, were on the end of a phone with a groundsman/manager on site if we needed help with anything. Our only hiccup was the (nearly new) fridge that wasn't working when we got there - this was replaced within 24 hours. In the meantime the owners made space in their own fridge for the five litres of local wine that they had left for us. Over our ten day stay, they struck a perfect balance between being there if we needed something, yet not at all intrusive.

All in all, one of the best holidays we've had and certainly the best accommodation and customer care.

A unique tower b/w the med & mountains: heaven!

Review Submitted: June 26, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2008
Excellent place for a long w/e or full holiday. Highly recommended indeed, 2 of the best holidays we have had (both 5 day long w/e's). Totally unique tower, very comfortable and clean indeed, peaceful and yet in the heart of the Las gavarras zona verde - like a national park with great walking, biking (hills or flat). Have been there twice - Autumn and Spring - both times crisp mornings turned into hot days and we swam in the sea, gazed at the pyrenees glistening in the distance, did lots of walking, sleeping and wandering around beautiful villages (almost like tuscany was 20 years ago before the tourists invaded) and ate and drank like kings and queens! The tower has all the mod cons and masses of cooking stuff, crockery etc so you don't have to wash up to eat! (good dishwasher - phew) , and a fab conservatory off the kitchen, log burner, efficient heating etc and crisp white linen and good quality towels. Great location - surrounded by loads of very old and pretty small villages (which you can bike too or drive to) full of great bars, restaurants with typical spanish relaxed timing - we spent long lazy lunches and dinners at Madremanya (in the placa there are 2 great bars/cafes' full of young arty people up until the early hours, but great for an early supper too!) San Feliu de Boada, and Pals, plus an excellent local market sprawling around the whole of La Bisbal on Friday mornings. Sa Tuna beach was great - 2 good restaurants there with delicious fish and afternoon sun, plus if you're into culture Dali used to hang out around here - his fisherman cottage near Cadaques is worth getting to - we actually found a v rough (no tarmac) coastal road to get there which was a great drive in itself!
Only takes 45 minutes from the airport (not Barcelona). You should hire a car though, but a v small one is fine, just drive carefully up the bumpy road to the property. You can walk into the local town La Bisbal to collect morning bread, but we preferred to drive! It would be great for children too because there is so much space, outdoor life and yet beaches not far away at all. The owner was very helpful, full of suggestions and answers to questions, but sensitive enough to leave us to ourselves completely (lives in the main house 300 yards away). All in all a really lovely place to stay, very special indeed.

A breath of fresh air!

Not staying at a hotel can be a little scary when you only get a week off in the summer but I was very pleasantly surprised with Tower. Views of the grounds and surrounding countryside were breath takingly beautiful - the air from the hills smelt so fresh. While inside was tastfully decorated and cosy - a home from home without all the clutter and junk! The Tower has a clean, spacious, modern interior - well equiped and easy to use.
I finally got time and space back into my head from my hectic London life.I spent my days sun bathing by the lovely pool area or hikking through the hills followed by tasty meals.
The whole set up was so delightful, I could not even take up the offer of the short trip to Barcelona - all I could manage was a brief stroll to the nearby town for coffee, chocolate and shopping for arts and crafts!
All in all a breath of fresh air!

Bliss at the Torre

CathyRhino London
Review Submitted: May 16, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
My husband Kenneth and I have stayed at the Torre several times over the last few years, and have loved seeing the surrounding gardens and groves grow up. The views from the property, and especially from the roof with its wrought-iron pergola, are simply stunning. A good spot for a late whisky and a bit of start-gazing.

We don't particularly like driving, though have learned to navigate our way from Gerona via the pretty back roads in about 45 mins - and so usually spend the time walking or cycling up in the hills behind the tower - great for burning off the calories from the night before - and inhaling the heavenly scents of the wild fennel, cistus and pine.#

La Bisbal itself (5 minutes drive and easy to park in the river carpark, or a 20-25 minute walk) is delightful: a proper working town with a weekly market and real shops, rather than a tourist-place, but also a streetful of ceramics for when you can't resist tourist tat. Best to head into town early morning, before it gets too hot, pick up delicious things to cook later, and then have juice and coffee and a Campari at one of the cafes under the arches in the main street, before heading home for a dunk in the sweet little circular pool, lunch and a siesta. Worth driving in if you want to stop at the wine shop and pick up carafes of the cheap and lovely local rosada though.

There is apparently a lovely coast nearby but we have always, despite best intentions, simply pottered around the Torre, the gardens and the hills behind. Lots of comfortable places to sit and read, inside and out, and the beds are comfortable and sheets crisp, so quite a lot of sleeping gets done.

On our first visit we went into Gerona for the day to see the cathedral etc and climb through the steep streets above the river, so have done our sightseeing duty, but am sure there's enough to go back for on another trip.

Overall, a great place in which to be lazy (even in iffy weather), or to go out and sightsee and walk / cycle, and a nice mix of being able to buy local produce to cook our own meals, or go out to restaurants in La Bisbal.

Spoilt for Choice!

Fennel Soup London
Review Submitted: May 16, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2007
Difficult to know where to start -- this is a great place. Fantastic views, amazing sunshine, gloriously comfortable beds, and all the amenities you want when staying away from home -- DVD and sound system, pool, outside chairs, well-equipped kitchen etc. An absolute must is the Friday morning market in La Bisbal -- go early, have breakfast in a local bar, buy as much fruit/veg/jamon serrano/manchego etc as you can carry, then refresh yourself with a delicious pastry from the bread shop. And if you don't like cooking, you can arrange for someone to come in and do all for you (much better than you can too).
There are great walks all around the surrounding area, on signposted paths and off the beaten track too. Or you can cycle. Or play golf. There are lots of beaches nearby but you probably won't want to leave the Tower -- the drink is to hand, the gardens are beautiful and the peace is envelopping. That said, it's nice to go out occasionally, and there are lots of good restaurants, both near and far, and not expensive, either.
Don't know why I'm telling you all this -- I want to keep the place all for myself! -- but it's highly recommended.

A Paradisiacal Fortress in Spain.

Review Submitted: May 15, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2007
Staying at Torre Ronsat far exceeded my expectations, despite sumptious pictures on the web and accompanying enticing reviews. It is an architectural haven situated in the most beautiful setting and surrounded by olive groves that lead to interesting walks in the woods and hills behind. For anyone seeking privacy but wishing to be able to access local Spanish life, Torre Ronsat is ideally situated. The local town of La Bisbal offers traditional and delicious Spanish fare with it's lively weekly market but is always humming with sleepy activity. Plump, ripe vegatables, delicious Spanish meats, succulent fruit and wonderfully tempting ceramics (luggage space permitting). Alternatively, a quieter mood can be satisfied by staying at Torre Ronsat and drinking in the stunning panoramic views or walking in the dappled shade of the hills behind. The tower is beautifully and tastefully decorated but without sacrificing any of the comforts or amenities with which one wishes to be provided. The beds are fantastically comfortable (essential for a truly successful holiday) and the crisp, fresh bedlinen a joy to slip into. Drinks from the roof terrace challenge the most romantic Minghella setting and if you are feeling too lazy to cook then a local lady can be organised to come in and prepare delicious, traditional Spanish meals.
A day out offers good local beaches and L'Escala provides all manner of watersports. We did not eat out more than once or twice (it is difficult to tear yourself away) but the restaurants we sampled were good and provided interesting menus.
There is a small pool to dip in and out of if the heat proves too challenging and hammocks lie temptingly slung between trees.
Torre Ronsat is the perfect location for the loner, a romantically inclined couple or a small family wishing to get away from it all. We shall certainly be going again.

I have spent several wonderful holidays in the Torre Ronsat. The Torre is well equipped and very comfortable. It is in an idyllic and peaceful setting, surrounded by gorgeous olive groves. The local area has some lovely walks for those who want to be more active.
The local town has a lively Friday market, which sells lots of local delicacies.
The owners arranged for a local lady to provide some delicious home cooked meals for us and I would highly recommend doing this, if you are able!
