JURA - November 2009

Moobli Berwickshire, Scotland
Review Submitted: November 10, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
I have visited Ardnamurchan a number of times over the years - I never want to leave and always want to rush back again! It was my first stay at Jura though with my German Shepherd, Yogi, and my sister and her Border Terrier, Daisy. I wanted a relaxing break, as I lead a very busy life at home on a hill farm with my hubby and our 2 year old son. Jura provided just that. The cabin was bright, airy, tastefully decorated, comfortable and warm, with everything you could need (shame we didn't get the welcome pack I have now read about though ;-) ) . Especially welcome for me was the free wifi - as I don't get broadband at home in the sticks! The weather was a bit wet, but it didn't stop us getting out and enjoying some lovely walks - Loch Shiel is a personal favourite as it hides the lovely cottage at Gaskan, which once was home to my favourite author, Mike Tomkies. A real highlight of my stay was the nightly visitor - a beautiful pine marten, and I was also told a wildcat lives in the vicinity, but unfortunately I didn't see it this time - perhaps the dogs may have had something to do with that! I will definitely be recommending Seaview Grazings to my family and friends, and will also return myself before too long. Thanks to Carol for a really warm and friendly welcome.
Kirsty & Yogi - a very longhaired German shepherd dog
Owner's Response: Thanks Kirsty a lovely review, sorry the welcome pack was not there it was because your booking had come from the other business and they do not prorvide welcome packs so I figured it would not be expected and go to waste. I am so glad you got to see the pinemartin she is becoming a very regular visitor these days.

P.S you would never know Yogi had long hair, the lodge left no trace of a dog , and shows why I am so glad to offer pet friendly accomodation

Wonderful, comfortable base with a great view

DaveD Bristol, England
Review Submitted: August 17, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We found Carol's directions were very accurate and easy to follow, and received a warm welcome when we arrived after a leisurely 3 hour drive from Glasgow Airport.

The lodge was large, warm and comfortable, and it was a lovely touch not to have to worry about finding basic essentials when we arrived - milk, bread, bacon, eggs, juice tea, sugar were all waiting for us in the well-equipped kitchen.

The living area is large and cosy, with a wonderful picture window looking out across the loch. Mingulay (and Jura next door) are among the highest lodges on the hillside, so the views are cracking.

Bedrooms were cosy and the beds very comfortable, and it was so dark and so quiet that we all slept like logs.

Bathroom has all mod cons and was clean and well-appointed.

Strontian is a small, welcoming village, with shops, pub/hotel and post office/general store all within easy walking distance from the lodge. A little further afield there are various other places to eat (again reachable on foot) and it is ideally located for exploring the islands (especially Mull), the peninsula and the Great Glen. Fort William (and Ben Nevis, Glen Nevis) is only 35 minutes away.

We all had a wonderful time here - and next time we visit the Highlands we'll certainly be making a return visit to Strontian and to Mingulay!
Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the review Dave, I am glad you found Mingulay so comfortable for your highland break, this review shows what a wonderful base Strontian is to explore the west coast with Mingulay offering access to the islands and local amenities with the bonus of a wonderful view to wake up to. I am glad to see they plan to return repeat custom is the ultimate compliment for self catering owners

Perfection

Stevenann St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
Review Submitted: July 20, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We stayed at the related cottage, Jura, for a week to celebrate our ananiversary in the romantic Highlands, and it was perfect. Stunning view, charming village with all necessities available close by (fuel, groceries, cafe, library with internet access, etc., great scenic walks). The proprietor was encyclopedic in her knowledge of the area and attractions, most amiable and helpful. Clued us into a great restaurant nearby. The property was clean, comfortable, nicely decorated. We couldn't have found a better spot. We loved it.
Owner's Response: Thanks for the lovely review, a pleasure to have you with me and I am glad you had a good anniversary in such a beautiful place. You and Steve will be among my most memorable guests

Well worth the long drive

ianboz Walsall, West Midlands, England
Review Submitted: June 28, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
It's a fair drive from the West Midlands to Strontian - having done it before, I knew that a break would be good, so we stopped of at Moffat. That meant a gentle drive to Strontian on he Saturday, arriving bang on 3 p.m. as our new 32-inch colour TV was being tested.

After a few busy weeks in the office, and the best part of 2 days driving, it was amazing how fast the beautiful setting, the bird song, the views over the loch, the cup of tea restored my spirits.

This place has a magical quality - even the "wasteland" where rhododendrons had recently been cleared did nothing to spoil our experience. I even spent a day in bed, having got a mystery illness that showed up about 2 hours after arrival, but as I said to another holidaymaker, I would rather be ill there than anywhere else! (I was able to see the local doctor on the same day, and was much restored within a short time.)

We love this area, and would certainly think very seriously about staying here again - there's so much to do, (or not to do, if you just want to relax). We particularly enjoyed watching a variety of birds eating the bread and jam we'd put out for pine martens (which we didn't see).
Owner's Response: Thank you for the review Ian it was a pleasure to have met you and your family.

The TV is working well so far with a high def box on the way to compliment it, the " wasteland" is greening over a bit but it will take a few years as they are a very determined plant, unforunately the price we pay in the highlands to remove the hated Rhodie, better that that 25 ft of them blocking the sparkling waters of Loch Sunart. I am pleased you love this area I know I couldn't live any where else after being lucky enough to find this hidden gem

I do hope you decide to visit again we are enjoying the sort of weather you had at the moment it is sooo hot !!

JURA LOG CABIN

Magzz Paisley
Review Submitted: June 24, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
This was our second stay at one of these lovely log cabins on the beautiful shoreline of Loch Sunart.
This area has some of the most outstanding scenery in
Scotland and never seems to be overcrowded with tourists.
The cabins are very comfortable and each one has a wonderful view over the loch and hills around Strontian.
The warm and friendly welcome from the family who own
the cabins also added to our enjoyment.
Owner's Response: Thank you very mucf for the review, Strontian is a very special place and I will never tire of looking at Loch Sunart which is at the heart of an undiscovered gem in the Scottish Highlands. I hope we see you again in the future

This was such a lovely place to holiday. The view is spectacular, the lodge comfortable , Carol was friendly and helpful. It was a quiet location, but with a pub with good food in walking distance and other good eateries within a short distance. There were good walks within reach and wonderful wildlife we saw seals, a pinemartin and an eagle. We would definately recommend it. Lydia and Steve
Owner's Response: Thank you to Lydia and Steve it was a pleasure to have you and I am glad you enjoyed your stay in Strontian, and all it has to offer, along with the wonderful view that I am privilaged to have from my lodges

Wonderful

Review Submitted: March 27, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
My wife and I stayed here in March 2009 and just got home all relaxed. We were very lucky with the weather. The cabin was clean large and bright with a fabulous view. Carol who met us there was very friendly and helpful, we were left alone to enjoy the tranquility and get away from London life, but she left us her mobile in case we needed anything. She also had supplied some bread, eggs, bacon, and milk, which was totally unexpected. The local pub is friendly and the local scenery is stunning.

We absolutely recommend staying here

Strontian - A Scottish Highland Delight

GJCL North Warwickshire
Review Submitted: February 7, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
We've recently returned from a hogmanay break having spent a delightful week in Jura,a log cabin situated on a wooded hillside with a wonderful view over Loch Sunart.Mingulay another cabin sits close to Jura with equally spectacular views but they still feel very private from each other and other cabins scattered about the hillside. The cabin is as described, cosy and tastefully decorated, infact the owner had taken the trouble to ensure the cabin had Christmas touches made to it and it felt like a home from home. The owner was very helpful, kind and knowledgeable about the area having lived and worked there for many years. The cabin is just a short walk down a hill and along a quiet single track road hugging the loch from the lovely village of Strontian (need torch at night for the walk).First along the road is the handy village post office/store and fuel pump and then the Strontian Hotel/inn where we saw the new year in and had several very nice meals.Shortly after the inn is the village centre itself, a pleasant place with a well stocked general store and nice tea room/cafe for light meals. There is also a craft shop and info centre (closed out the main season).Money if reqd can be withdrawn free at a link m/c in the post office.About a mile out of the village is the Ariundle Centre, another lovely welcoming place run by some delightful characters. This again serves decent food and has crafts for sale. From here you can take some superb walks through the old oakwoods of the nature reserve along the Strontian river and return back to the village over the hills along the 'Fairies Road'.The loch shores are also great to walk along with an abundance of birdlife and the kids enjoyed playing on the frozen shallow pools in the meadows next to the loch/village.The cabin makes an excellent base for trips further afield. Our first trip took us along the long but scenic single track road to the Ardnamurchan lighthouse where we saw whales briefly surface just offshore. We then travelled over to the lovely remote beach of Sanna which is also well worth a visit. The cabin is also good for accessing the Isle of Mull.A short drive south takes you to Lochaline where a 15min ferry trip takes you to Fishnish on Mull where you can drive round the island, visit Tobermory (Balamory to the kids) or visit Iona and it's monastery.Doing it all in one day is a tall order though! Short drives to Polloch and to Castle Tioram with it's outstanding views are also worthy.
All in all fab.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for such a wonderful review. It was a pleasure to have this family stay with me over a beautiful frosty sunny new year. I am glad they appreciated the decorations it was my first christmas/new year so it is good to see people appreciated it and it made it feel homely for them. As well as this thankyou for showing all the wonderful things you can do in the area, I feel it is so special here as there are so many different days out. I hope this review helps others as I am sure it will.

Thanks again
