A fabulous trip

Let me start with something I didn't like, so that is over and done with: the outside of the building is not very inviting and makes you wonder if you are at the right address (looking at the prices of real estate during our stay in Paris made me realise, however, what a jewel we had found) . But that impression changes once you enter the apartment. It is spacious and tastefully painted in light colours which are matched by the colours of the lovely furniture.
The kitchen and bathroom are rather small, but very well equipped and very clean.
The location can't be beaten. My son and I came back on a few occasions to take a break and have a shower before we continued our sightseeing programme, and it was such a relief to get off our feet for some time and freshen up! Another bonus: Paris can be rather a loud city, but although you live very central, this apartment - which looks onto a little backyard with a lovely old tree - even allows you to sleep with the window wide open!
The surrounding area offers you everything you need: sights in walking distance, bakeries, supermarkets, bus/metro stations and all kinds of restaurants (since my son loves Chinese food, we had Chinese takeaways a couple of times, which allowed us to make ourselves real comfortable :-)) while eating and also save some money on the drinks which I found to be tremendously overpriced in most places).
Going out at night (if your feet let you :-) ! ) is not a problem; you find a lot of places in walking distance and you can feel absolutely safe!
We did a lot of sightseeing, yet I will have to go back many more times to experience only a fraction of what this fantastic city has to offer.
My teenage son's favourite were the Eiffel Tower (illuminated in blue light with golden stars sparkling), the Conciergerie (a former prison), the Louvre and the Jardin des Plantes (there you'll find a natural history museum and a small zoo). I liked all those plus Versailles and the Dome des Invalides (Napoleon is buried there). What we both could have done without was the Centre Pompidou. When we were there, they had exhibitions of the worst items of modern art I have ever seen!
To round it all up: Paris was great and we will certainly go back there more than once in the future - preferably with this lovely apartment as our "base" !
