Truly Wonderful - Pure Desert Island Luxury

Lamu Tamu Nairobi, Kenya
Review Submitted: May 14, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
It has been my huge pleasure to stay at Kusini House several times - I just keep coming back and back to this absolutely wonderful house!

Why? Because this must be the most peaceful, luxurious and beautiful place to stay on the whole of the Kenyan coast - probably on the whole of the East African coast in fact.

The house is really spacious, beautifully designed and maintained - and furnished and decorated with great style and taste. It is wonderfully situated on one of the most idyllic deserted beaches that one can imagine.

The food here is absolutely delicious - specialities include fresh seafood daily - succulent Indian Ocean fish, crabs and lobsters - and lovely tropical fruits and juices. The house staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly, discreet and hard working - and will do absolutely everything they can to make your stay as happy, relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

While it might be tempting just to relax in or around the house's huge swimming pool or to sunbathe on one of the many terraces and verandahs, there's plenty to do if you feel more active - waterskiing, windsurfing, sea fishing, dhow sailing, speed boating and even swimming with dolphins are all available close at hand. And if you're feeling sociable, there are a couple of charming and civilised beach bars within walking distance.

Or one can explore the towns and villages on Lamu and neighbouring islands - a visit to fascinating Lamu Town is a must - it's an ancient Swahili port that has changed very little in several hundred years, full of interesting history and culture.

All in all I really cannot recommend Kusini House highly enough - if you're looking for a place to really relax and let go in wonderful and civilised surroundings then there can be few better places in the world to do so!

We found a piece of paradise at Kusini House. Everything was perfect - the house, the setting, the staff and the peace and quiet. What a real treat. To be looked after by such a wonderful team at the house meant we were really able to unwind without a care in the world. Relaxation with a capital R.

The most stunning place we have ever been to. There are not enough words to describe how beautiful, quiet, relaxing and mind-boggeling this place is. We keep coming back to Kusini house and enjoy it more every time. It's worth every penny! It's brilliant for children, has a huge, lovely, warm pool, super beach, delicious food and beautiful interior design. You can do so many things there - or just do nothing at all!

My partner and I stayed in Kusini house in 2007 for 1 week and we honestly can say our stay was the most fabulous and magical of all our years of travelling.
So much so that we excitedly returned again earlier this year (2009). The staff were once again attentive and professional, every 5 star stunningly delicious meal was served with the most beautiful of smiles.
The house and garden itself were immaculately maintained in a very cool and stylish way, but you still felt very relaxed and at home.
I would 100% recommend the house to anyone wishing to get away from it all and be looked after in a non obtrusive way. Who could possible decline, being served tea and freshly made cake on the beach/balcony/by the pool each afternoon.
It is certainly worth a visit to the local villages, but we prefered to spend as much time as possible in the pool and on the beach enjoying the warm breeze and water. Oh and check out the phosphoressence in the sea at night...amazing.
We didn't have any problem with any midges or mozzies on either visit.
Fabulous. Wish I could keep it a secret place though. x

Island paradise

We so enjoyed our time at Kusini House! The location is wonderful - incredibly remote on an expansive white sand beach. The location offered a lot of variety, from days spent relaxing poolside to swimming with dolphins or snorkeling in the clear waters. The house and pool are beautiful ... with every last detail taken care of. I'd recommend this villa to anyone looking to 'get away from it all' in style.

Pure paradise - highly recommended

I stayed at Kusini House last April (2008) and it truly was pure paradise. The house itself is beautifully furnished and incredibly relaxing. Kusini House has had a number of celebrity guests and you can read their glowing praise in the guest book. The house is right on the beach and the staff are amazing and you don't want for anything. The Chef produces the most delicious, fresh food and even managed to cater for my gluten allergy including a fresh gluten-free cake for me every afternoon. The taste of the freshly-picked fruits for breakfast was out of this world, as was the seafood. In terms of service - the house was very well maintained. I put my dirty washing in the laundry basket in the morning and it was hanging in my wardrobe in the afternoon - now that's service! You can laze by the pool, or if you feel more adventurous there is water-ski-ing on offer with your own boat-man provided. Lamu town is steeped in history and is an interesting blend of cultures. I would highly recommend Kusini house and will certainly be returning again.

The most incredible place!

I have stayed at Kusini three times both with friends and with children aged 3 and 6. The house is beautiful, plenty of places to relax and chill out plus fantastic open entertainment and intimate dining areas. My children absolutely loved the pool which is longer than most of the other houses so perfect for lengths if you are feeling energetic enough! The staff were especially friendly and discreet and entertained my boys no end as well as preparing the most fabulous children friendly food. If you are seeking utter relaxation, total attention to detail, privacy (the house is set in a private walled garden) and the most incredible food, views and location then I can't recommend Kusini enough. In terms of activities and adventure a trip to Lamu is a must plus a boat trip to swim with dolphins. You can wakeboard using equipment at the house and a 5 minute walk will take you to the most amazing kiting beach (only if you have your own equipment though). If you do go make sure you take an evening Dhow trip from just outside the front door too!
