Villa Melody Spring 2009

Jane Mc St Leonards on Sea
Review Submitted: August 9, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We came across the Rock House website when we were searching for villas near Chania and were very taken with the website, its design, the pictures of the two villas and their high specification. Booking the villa was straightforward and right from the beginning Yioula, the owner, was delightful to deal with - everything happened as arranged, paperwork arrived when expected and Yioula was easy to contact by phone to answer the odd query before the holiday. It's particularly convenient if you are able to fly into Chania airport rather than Heraklion, as it is only 20 minutes in a taxi. So often the pictures advertising villas are 'imaginative' to put it mildly - but these villas are just as they look on the website, if not better, and you could not ask for a more tastefully appointed, comfortable and intelligently laid out place to have a holiday. The quality is first rate throughout and it's clear Yioula has gone to a great deal of personal trouble to make it so - and quite rightly she asks her guests to treat it like their own home. We walked through the door into a typical Greek welcome - flowers in a vase, a bottle of raki, wine and, best of all, home baked pastries and a cake made by Yioula herself! She was always around if you needed her advice or help. Even though we were only there for a week we still had a visit from a cleaner mid-week, and the general cleanliness throughout the villa was outstanding. The villa is set back from the main road into Chania and Platanias is a lively place full of good reasonably priced restaurants, as well as one or two suitable for a special night out. There are plenty of supermarkets, chemists and so on within a few minutes walk and a lot of really good jewellery shops. As always seems the way in Greece, you get such a warm welcome where ever you go. There is a car rental company a couple of doors down with excellent rates and the buses into Chania and beyond are good. The beach, which is sandy and clean with amazing views and spectacular sunsets, is less than 5 minutes walk from the villa although the pool at the villa tempts you to stay put. There are many nightclubs if that's your bag but noise doesn't reach the villa in the evening if it's not. We have already recommended this property to friends and bored them to death with hundreds of photos of our visit. We will go back without question - it was a privilege to stay in such a beautiful place and be the guest of such a lovely, warm person as Yioula.

Villa Melody September 2009

Review Submitted: October 14, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
This was the first time we had booked a private villa with pool & came upon this one via an internet site recommended to us. We chose the villa because of the wonderful photos and wealth of information about the villas. We were not disapointed in the least! From the moment we stepped into the villa my husband, son & I all flopped down onto the cosy sofa & breathed a sigh of bliss quickly followed by a dive into the pool. We had a warm welcome from Yioula together with a hamper of goodies.

The villa was everything we imagined it could be and more, my son (aged 3) had his own special playroom downstairs with numerous toys & games to keep him occupied. The villa was fully equipped with everything you could wish for including espresso machine! And was spotlessly clean.

We did hire a car but it was not needed as your are in the middle of the village close to all amenities but it was nice to explore the island and drive up the mountains with the spectacular views (ok if like my husband you like heights, he's a roofer, if not don't look down) and don't mind shoving away the odd goat who refuses to leave the 8 foot wide road so you can drive past.

Overall we had an excellent holiday and like everyone else didn't want to go home, usually miss my home comforts but had them on holiday with me!

Perfect relaxation

Review Submitted: September 22, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We enjoyed a very relaxing week in Villa Melody. When we arrived the house was spotlessly clean and fully lived-up to our expectations. (The multi-room sound system is a great idea). Lovely pool to cool off and float around.

We enjoyed simple food in nearby restaurants - we weren't very adventurous and flipped between a couple of restaurants that we liked and didn't venture far.

Our Holiday

Lomas Northampton, England
Review Submitted: June 14, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We stayed at Villa Rhapsody at the end of May beginning of June 2009.

This villa was lovely. Although it is central in Platanias you enter throught the large wooden gates at Rock Houses and it is your own quite oasis. You would not know you were in the heart of the town. Even in the evening you cannot hear anything.

There is such a lot to do from boat trips and water activities, the beach is only 5 minutes away. Jeep safari trips into the hills with breathtaking views. To see the island hire a car and explore, its buitiful and the people are really friendly. The town offers all the amenities you could want.

Although in our experience if you want the best authentic food, take a trip up into the hills and find a little restaurant of your own, great food and good value.

The owners of these two lovely villa's were very friendly, helpful and always available.

So whether you want the nightlife or the original Crete culture this location is great, and should meet all tastes.

The Villa's were of a very high standard with all the facilities you could ask for.

We hope to return soon (If there's a space) I think future booking will be well sought after.

Mick, Sue & Harry
Owner's Response: I encourage all renters who receive an enquiry from this family, to give priority to them. They are wonderful, very friendly people, who took care of our property in the best way, probably as if it was their own home. We only hope to have renters like that into our villas!

A second honeymoon

Review Submitted: May 3, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
It has been a real pleasure to spend one week on this wonderul villa. We made many small trips around Plaranias to visit the region and we were eager every time to return to our own little paradise called Villa Melody. The owner family are wonderful people who end up to be good friends. We wait to see them in Paris this christmas. We thank them for their sympathy and the way they receive and welcome their "guests". We will be back again for 3 weeks next summer. Jean-Paul -France April 2009.

The Rock Houses Villas are the hidden secret of Platanias and luckly we found it. Thank you so much for your hospitality and friendliness. We had a great time and we enjoyed our stay. We hope to return soon!!

Owner's Response: It is always a pleasure to accommodate so nice people in our villa. People who respect our effort in introducing the traditional cretan homes with all its luxury services and who took very good care of the villa so that the next guests can enjoy it as much as they did.
