There are also a range of exquisite Roman mosaics which have been found adorning excavated villas, and the Phoenician tombs at the bottom of the Sierra del Rey have an eerie beauty.
The village is set on the boundary between the Antequera Mountains and the Malaga Mountains, and therefore has access to some of the best hill walking, mountain biking and horse riding country in Axarquia. There are some beautiful routes to take through the mountains, and a huge range of breath-taking viewpoints from which you can really begin to get an understanding of the area.
Festivals are celebrated with gusto in Riogordo. There are three main events annually, all of which are magnificent times to be living in a Riogordo villa, apartment or holiday home. On the 15th May and between the 15th and 18th August are the town’s two main festivities to celebrate Saints days, when the town becomes a hive of good food, traditional music and a many little displays and events.
