Roborough is a rural hamlet in North Devon, which sits at the gateway to the stunning landscapes of Exmoor National Park. It neighbours Rapson on the main road to Winkleigh. It is central for shopping in the towns of Great Torrington, Instow on the Taw esturary, Bideford, South Molton, Barnstable, Braunton and Ilfracombe. Towns and villages within five miles of Roborough include Beaford, High Bickington, Dolton, Atherington, Burrington, Puddington, Ashreigney, Merton and Umberleigh Bridge.
Places to holiday in Roborough
Roborough is a beautiful rural area yet it is only a short drive to Barnstable (Bideford) Bay and is ideally situated for exploring Dartmoor or Exmoor and the South West Coastal Path. The Tarka Trail, which is ideal for cycling or walking, is nearby and there are opportunities for golf, horse riding, sea fishing, coarse fishing, boating, wildlife and nature watching, sports, as well as numerous attractions to visit.
Roborough has no hotels or guesthouses and the nearest campsites are eleven miles away. It just has a village hall, public house and cottages (self catering farm cottages and barn conversions), yet it is the perfect location for family holidays. When you stay in a holiday cottage in Roborough you are well and truly away from the madding crowd, but can step back into it any time you please. You are not totally isolated as there are many other rural cottages nearby and there is a local pub.
The pub has been called, Ye Olde Inne for many years, but it now has new owners who have named it, The New Inn. It is welcoming and cosy and the food is made from fresh local and West Country produce and is a pleasure to eat.
Things to do in Roborough
When your are not out enjoying the fresh air on sightseeing tours, surfing or sunbathing on the coast or taking in the beauty of the moors, then there are numerous other attractions in the surrounding areas. Roborough Castle is an Iron Age hill fort near Lynton above the East Lyn River (Hoaroak Water). The South Molton Museum has interesting memorabilia including one of the towns first Fire Engines.
The Milky Way Adventure Park in Bideford is a mix of fun and education with dodgems, roller coasters, birds of prey, pets corner, maze, cafes and a shop. Still in Bideford the Big Sheep has friendly animals, a garden centre, brewery, indoor fun and laser shooting. More family fun can be had at Tordown Farm Nature Trail, Exmoor Zoo, North Devon Farm Park, Ilfracombe Wildlife and Coastal Cruises and Watermouth Castle.
RHS Garden Rosemoor is a unique and enchanting garden and a little further afield is Hartland Abbey and Gardens. Golfers will enjoy the golf course at High Bickington and Chulmleigh Golf Course. Neighbouring Winkleigh has a community centre, sports centre, church, chapel and a village hall where music events are held on every Tuesday of the month.

Roborough's climate is mild but unpredictable. The North Devon coasts will be slightly cooler than inland.
Travel to Roborough
Exeter and Bristol airports are convenient for Roborough. Barnstable is the nearest main line railway station. Beaford has at least five buses a day but although there are buses to Roborough, there is not a regular daily service.
