Rome was also an important city during the Renaissance, and there are many celebrated Renaissance buildings and villas in Rome. Of particular note is the Piazza del Campidoglio by Michelangelo and the baroque Fontana di Trevi. Art and architecture play an important role in Rome life. For artistic culture, try the National Gallery of Modern Art, National Museum of Rome or Borghese Gallery.
